Last month, Mouthful of Bees put out their sophomore, self-titled album... And even though I'm, like I previously stated, over a month behind I'd still like to share it with you. Mouthful of Bees as a whole is, from an all around musical stand-point, one of the best albums I've heard in a long time. I think the best way to describe their sound is to just say that they're like an "unheard of Grizzly Bear ." Afternoon Rec's was kind of enough to share "Thomas Aquinas", which does a beautiful [...]

When brother/sister duo Chris and Kate Farstad asked friends Micky Alfano and Mark Ritsema to join them in musical harmonic formation, jaded observers in the already-crowded Minneapolis indie rock scene were quick to skepticism. The six-piece group's first album, "The End," received hype from the likes of City Pages and The Star Tribune. Their newer material is some of the best from 2009 to date. Mouthful of Bees create emotional modern folk music that is just beautifully arranged even if unhinged at times. There music gets better with every listen. Do you [...]
I have been pretty vacant from this blog for a while, and as a result my inbox has been piling up with new stuff. I have gone through each email I have gotten since individually, trying to give each band a fair listen. Trust me, it aint easy. Some of the stuff just plain sucks, some just doesn't stand out, and some shine. These are all bands and songs that I felt were in the latter category. I hope you feel the same and give them a listen. I have attached a mp3 that they sent along, as well as [...]

Monday --> Mail --> Bag --> Lady --> Finger --> Point --> of no Return -> to Sender What is Monday Mail? It seems like more and more of my friends are science nerds these days. What’s up with that? Did it just become cooler to love science (obviously, yes) or are there just more science nerds in the world these days or did I just get to be friends with more of them recently? Either way, I’m totally happy. I think it’s an interesting discipline, [...]

So. On Sunday, my wife and I are moving from Minneapolis back to Boston, where we both grew up. We moved out here five years ago because of her Ph.D program, and we're moving back to Boston for the same reason. When we moved here, we were a bit dazed. My dad had just died of cancer, and we were going somewhere completely new and foreign. We didn't know what to expect, and we didn't have much time to think about it. Luckily, Minneapolis and St. Paul have proven to be awesome cities. We've not only made some great friends...
