The pimp game just isn't the same. With so many of them parading around and associating with stars, we are many years removed from the incognito ways of Iceberg Slim. But what still makes the legendary Chicago pimp turned author so mystical and revered was his ability to depict the tales of his pimpalations and Chi-town hoods so well on paper. And through all his novels, memoirs, and interviews, his legacy is still somewhat of a mystery. That’s where Ice T and Phase 4 Films come in. With this documentary Iceberg Slim: Portrait of [...]
![[Trailer] The Wolf of Wall Street](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/5010270_lg.jpg)
The Wolf of Wall Street is the fifth collaboration between Leonardo DiCaprio and Martin Scorsese. When a director and actor are able to click on a creative level, movie magic happens, as can be seen by the pair's previous films ( The Departed , Gangs of New York , Shutter Island , The Aviator ). The Wolf of Wall Street is based off of Jordan Belfort's memoir of the same name where he details his rise and fall in the stock market. Money talks, and that certainly rings true throughout the entire trailer. Paired with [...]
![[Trailer 2] Only God Forgives](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/5009953_lg.jpg)
The theatrical trailer for director Nicolas Winding Refn's ( Drive ) and Ryan Gosling's ( Drive ) second collaboration, Only God Forgives , was released over the weekend. The film received an iffy reaction from crowds when it premiered at Cannes last month, but it should find a solid following from fans of Drive . I still can't get enough of t he color scheme Refn utilized for the film, and it'll be interesting to see how much of an effect the color scheme will affect the scenes. This one's a quick post because I'm trying to be as open [...]

This is Billy Ruane. FIRST TRAILER RELEASED TODAY! The Road To Ruane from filmmaker Michael Gill
![[Trailer] Elysium](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/5006121_lg.jpg)
When District 9 was released in 2009, it caught a lot of people's attention. Finally, the sci-fi genre had found a new type of film for the genre that wasn't bogged down by an emphasis on special effects or a hard sci-fi slant that wouldn't appeal to broader audiences. Beyond that, writer/director Neill Blomkamp explored social themes within the film, using the separation of aliens and humans as a metaphor for segregation and xenophobia. This isn't anything new in science fiction, as sci-fi writers have always used aliens as an analogue for social relations. However, as I alluded to [...]
![[Trailer] 300: Rise of an Empire](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/5003921_lg.jpg)
If your testosterone levels aren't high, they're about to increase exponentially after you watch this first trailer for 300: Rise of an Empire . Acting as a bookend prequel/sequel to Zack Snyder's 300 , Rise of an Empire follows Themistocles (Sullivan Stapleton), an Athenian warrior, during The Battle of Artemisium. The film's events will take place before, during, and after 300 , which gives the producers a natural way of rehashing clips from the original 300 . Rise of an Empire will also give a bit of a backstory on the film's antagonist, Xerses , and how he [...]
![[Trailer] Snowpiercer](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/5003777_lg.jpg)
In a future where an attempt to stop global warming resulted in an artificial Ice Age, the majority of life on Earth has died. The survivors are forced to live on a train, the titular Snowpiercer, that simply runs across the planet, driven by an engine that is always in perpetual-motion. Over the years since the initial experiment failed, the train has been split into various classes where the rich live in the front while the poor live in the back of the train. You see where I'm going with this, right? Snowpiercer is Bong [...]

Spartans had a big 2007, thanks to Zack Snyder's now-legendary 300 . The tale of 300 burly Greek soldiers waging war against their Persians counterparts has been aped numerous times by movies like Clash Of The Titans and its sequels, and because money, the movie's official sequel is fast approaching. Dubbed 300: Rise Of An Empire , the first trailer looks to be staying within the original's comfort zone: slow-motion, sand-washed battle scenes, blood that pops off the scene, and a bunch of half-naked people. Look for it in March, 2014.
![[Trailer] Pawn Shop Chronicles](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/5002367_lg.jpg)
Pawn Shop Chronicles takes a page out of popular TV shows Pawn Stars and Hardcore Pawn with its central setting of a pawn shop and the people that enter through its doors. Featuring an ensemble cast of Brendan Fraser ( Tarzan ), Elijah Wood ( Maniac ), Vincent D'Onofrio ( Men in Black ), Thomas Jane ( Hung ), Lukas Haas ( Brick ), Norman Reedus ( The Walking Dead ), Matt Dillon ( Crash ), and Paul Walker ( Fast & Furious 6 ), the film features three converging stories [...]
![[Trailer] Man of Tai Chi](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/5001866_lg.jpg)
Let your eyes linger on this header image for a moment. It's of Tiger Hu Chen jump kicking across a yin-yang sign on fire . Man of Tai Chi , Keanu Reeves' ( The Matrix ) directorial debut, is about Reeves' character running a secret underground tournament for his entertainment. When he stumbles upon a martial artist (Chen) that practices Tai Chi, he's hell-bent on exploiting him and bringing him to the "dark side." Also starring in the film is The Raid : Redemption 's Iko Uwais, who is an absolute badass, Simon Yam ( Ip [...]
![[Trailer] Magic Magic](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/5000175_lg.jpg)
Michael Cera ( Arrested Development ) has been doing what he can to break away from becoming another young, typecast actor since Arrested Development was initially cancelled. While playing the lovable loser character in Juno to an innocent teen with a rebellious multiple personality disorder in Youth in Revolt to the quirky, yet self-assured hero in Scott Pilgrim vs. the World , Cera has expanded on the naive, dimwitted character he's perhaps still most known for. However, with this first trailer for Magic Magic , writer/director Sebastian Silva has cast Cera as Brink, a young man [...]
![[Trailer] The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/5000094_lg.jpg)
The new trailer for Peter Jackson's The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug is here! I honestly am not a huge fan of The Lord of the Rings , but with the whole fantasy genre sweeping the population with Game of Thrones -related fervor, I can imagine the masses swarming to see the next film in the Hobbit trilogy will grow even larger. Wizards, dwarves, giants, dragons, forests, and swords will all be the next in line for Hollywood's next big craze, hopefully replacing the over-saturation of zombie films. The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug continues [...]
![[Trailer] Stranded](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4999435_lg.jpg)
If you've been wondering where Christian Slater and his crazy eyes have been, he's apparently been Stranded . The sci-fi horror/thriller, directed by Roger Christian ( Battlefield Earth ), looks to be a generic sci-fi film, complete with various gimmicks and cliches that have been overused numerous times since Alien debuted in 1979. Still, there's a certain level of appeal in seeing Slater pretend to be scared by an unseen alien force. If anything, Stranded could prove to be a cheap thrill and easy (unintended) laughs when it gets lost in theaters on July 26th.
![[Trailer] The Frozen Ground](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4996829_lg.jpg)
Last week, the trailer for Getaway starring Selena Gomez and Ethan H awke debuted , which struck me as an odd pairing for the Springbreakers actress and Before Midnight actor. However, that's nothing compared to the pairing of Vanessa Hudgens ( Springbreakers ) and Nicolas Cage ( Kick-Ass ) in The Frozen Ground . However, unlike the Gomez x Hawke duo, it appears that Hudgens and Cage will be able to co-exist, perhaps due to the film's premise. Based on a true story, writer/director Scott Walker's The Frozen Ground is about an Alaskan detective, Jack [...]

Thoughts on Film... by Chris Fullerton Chris Fullerton is a Music and Film writer. He lives in Austin, Texas. Summer is the official movie season for overblown action films, rebooted franchises and unnecessary sequels, but director Louis Leterrier (The Incredible Hulk, The Transporter) pulls a sleight of hand and sneaks in a thrill-ride who-done-it about magicians. [...]
![[Trailer 2] Man of Steel](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4991834_lg.jpg)
With Man of Steel out next week, one final look has been released exclusively by Nokia. If you haven't already been bombarded by the ample coverage and trailers for the next Superman film, this trailer should bring you up to speed. Zack Snyder ( Sucker Punch ) is attempting to do for Clark Kent what Christopher Nolan, who's also producing Man of Steel , did for Batman. Henry Cavill ( The Tudors ) will be donning the cape withRussell Crowe ( Gladiator ), Amy Adams ( The Muppets ), Michael Shannon ( Boardwalk Empire ), Laurence Fishburne [...]
![[Trailer] Getaway](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4991369_lg.jpg)
On-screen chemistry is one of the most important aspects when it comes to a film. Two of the most talented actors in Hollywood could be paired together in a film, but if they lack chemistry, it's gonna be noticeable and, ultimately, weight the entire film down. With this debut trailer for Getaway , the question of chemistry is brought up, and with good reason. Ethan Hawke ( Before Midnight ) stars as Brent Magna, a former race car driver, who must rescue his kidnapped wife from a mysterious man (Jon Voight). To do so, the kidnapper puts Brent [...]
![[Trailer] Insidious Chapter 2](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4989641_lg.jpg)
The next chapter in the Insidious story has just been unveiled. James Wan, director of the first Insidous and creator of the Saw franchise, is returning to direct the next in the occult horror film, Insidious Chapter 2 . The film takes place after its precursor where evil spirits have followed Josh Lambert (Patrick Wilson) to his home. Of course, those who've seen the first film know that he's hiding a secret. The trailer hints at all of the scary shenanigans to be seen, including ominous baby monitor voices, flickering candles, mysterious voices, and a litany [...]
![[Trailer] The To Do List](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4988779_lg.jpg)
Back in 2011, there was this lovely little movie being developed called The Hand Job that was gonna star Aubrey Plaza ( Safety Not Guaranteed ) as an inexperienced high school graduate desperate to have her first sexual experiences to prepare herself for college. Of course, MPAA wasn't going to green-light the name of the film, and it was unceremoniously changed to The To Do List . Sure, it still carries the sexual innuendo of the original title, but come on... imagine watching a film starring Plaza discovering her sexuality. Fast forward two years, and the first [...]
![[Trailer] Coffee Town](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4987208_lg.jpg)
CollegeHumor has been arguably one of the destinations for online comedy for years. I remember watching all of the Derrick Comedy videos years back before Donald Glover won everybody over with his hilarious portrayal of Troy Barnes on Community (let alone taking us to Camp as Childish Gambino). With a series of funny video shorts under their belt, the brand is ready to take the next step in entertainment: films. CollegeHumor is teaming up with independent movie distributor FilmBuff for its feature-length film debut, Coffee Town . Starring It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia 's [...]
