In continuing with the grand End Hits tradition of cataloging Liz Harris of Grouper 's every waking moment, we have some news to announce: She's teamed up with long-time video collaborator Weston Currie to soundtrack his film entitled The Perception of Moving Targets . And isn't this a treat? She'll be performing a live score during the movie's Portland premiere on November 17th at the Hollywood Theatre . Looks like a perfect match. Currie's blurring of the conscious and subconscious set to Harris's [...]

The films will premiere October 1 in NYC, and will feature live accompaniment by Liz Harris herself. We saw the short edit for his dark and disturbing " I Saw A Ray " clip a couple months back, and you can check the full 11-minute version below. Currie says: [...]
( email | facebook | twitter ) The charcoal-colored, half-note barroom guitar. The faraway, semi-hoarse baritone vocals. The serpentine patience of the rhythm section. It's "Like A Snake," by Lozninger, from the first single off of Moving Targets . Stream or download at the bottom, and read more at the [...]

In theory, the CIA's charter prohibits it from engaging in domestic operations. In practice, that's taken about as seriously as Jay-Z's periodic announcements that he's retiring from show biz. The CIA explains its massive presence on US campuses by saying that so many foreign students attend US universities, it would be a shame not to try to recruit them. The Domestic Contacts Division is needed to glean information from US tourists and businessmen returning from abroad. Then there's the Domestic Operations Division, which handles foreign interventions on US soil, like breaking into foreign embassies. [...]

"No? What? No?! Come on! COME ON! Don't you know who I am?" - Tom, yelling at an uncooperative Fredericks soundboard "It's like, well, if we land on water ... s' uh !" - Sean in Rampbridge, explaining why he typically ignores the in-flight safety speech "I think I saw him mouth the word 'munch'." -- Sean, catching Flight 1549 Cpt. Sullenberger diss a talkative passenger during the boarding process "It would appear that I'm some kind of good luck charm, wouldn't it?" - Sean, [...]

The band however, were far from being mere clones/imitators of sound of SST bands - their music certainly featured a distinctive Boston flair. Moving Targets formed in [...]

>> This is our 1,000th post. Yeah. It would have been nice to have had some big retrospective with shiny pictures and stuff that goes ping to mark the occasion, but then again, that's not our style. >> So we were minding our own business Saturday at a social event when we happened upon two former members of Boston chimp-gaze superstars Swirlies goofing around in a basement practice space. After convincing said players that in fact the band had had fans, and that we were one of them, we turned to the charming young fellow [...]

Boston band Moving Targets made two great album in the late 80s, Brave Noise and Burning in Water (If you look hard you can find them combined on a single cd). They were led by singer and guitarist Kenny Chambers , who also logged time in another band from Boston, Bullet LaVolta (a band that also shared members with the Lemonheads). Brave Noise and Burning in Water combine the energy, aggression, and speed of punk with the melodies of traditional pop. The albums could be soundtracks: moody and pensive instrumentals follow melodic speed boilers where [...]
