This album review hit me by surprise. I was expected a whole lot of melody and hum drum love song approaches. Maybe some catchy chorus to get me through. I placed the head phones on and sat back. Instantly the effect of the guitar driven vocals flooded my ears and It sounded good. Real good. The kind of good solid aor rock that should be played on all the top stations. Brett walker is a true American gem of a songrwriter. His approach to melody and texture makes the songs pop. You don't walk away from a listen to [...]

I Want To Know What Love Is - Foreigner Let me hear you say WeHo, WeHo! Mighty Monday was had today. Why oh why, do you say? Well, let me stop speaking in rhyming riddles and calm down a second. Now. OK. So. I've been going through a bit of a power ballad phase, in [...]
Clinic/all-star jam sesh Metal Masters 4, featuring Phil Anselmo, Kerry King, Dave Lombardo, Scott Ian, Charlie Benante, Frank Bello, Billy Sheehan, and Gary Holt took place in NYC on Friday night - much to the chagrin of local metal fans, who had to choose between that event and the currently in-progress tour Kreator/Accept/Swallow the Sun tour, which was [...]

Today I've got a real sick dubstep track with a catchy classic sample.. enough said. It's the latest from Styles&Complete, the duo from Charlotte. We've been featuring these guys since debuting their first remix (See below for other Styles&Complete). Well I have what may be my favorite track from these guys to date. It's called "Hold On Lil Girl", sampling the track with the same name from Mr Big. They have their signature sound, smashed with a classic sample giving it a great twist. Turn this up, enjoy! Styles&Complete - Hold On Lil Girl | [...]

Rock band Mr. Big is set to release their new record, Live From The Living Room on Tuesday , February 28 via Frontiers Records here in the states. The record was recorded live in Japan in January 2011 in front of an intimate audience. The stellar musical skills in Mr. Big have always stood out. They are technically some of the [...]
When ex-Dream Theater drummer Mike Portnoy announced an unlikely collaboration with John Sykes (above left, the guy who wrote Whitesnake's huge album), it was easy to be of two minds: On the one hand, Portnoy had reactivated the long-dormant Sykes, which is awesome; but, jeez, the Portnoy-Sykes affair also set a roadblock before any potential [...]
We love the smell of AOR in the morning. Mr. Big are still flogging their Feb 2011 album, What If... and we saw a 20 min bass solo for it. Yowch.
If you've over the age of 30, you've heard Mr.Big's 1991 chart-topping, power-ballad "To Be with You" . Some 20 years later, you can still hear the song on a variety of satellite radio stations, from the '90s channel to the hair metal channel to the lite rock channel. It's also featured in the Broadway musical Rock of Ages . The original lineup - Eric Martin (vocals), Paul Gilbert (guitars), Billy Sheehan (bass) and Pat Torpey (drums) - released 4 albums between [...]

Clisson - Our top story tonight: Phil Lynott is still dead. Yes, I just referenced a 36 year old Chevy Chase joke. Not exactly the most topical, but then neither are Thin Lizzy . The Irish rockers recently reunited sans their departed frontman and were playing at Hellfest , a metal festival situated just outside of the small French town of Clisson. Billing themselves as a tribute to Lynott and featuring a mix of original members and new additions, this new version of Thin Lizzy seems pretty clearly to be an exercise in nostalgia, both for the fans [...]

I like doing MetalSucks, in part, because I really do learn something new each and every week. You know what I learned this week, for example? FUCK VAMPIRES. Here are some other things we learned this week: The dudes in Lazarus A.D. like MetalSucks. Swamp Thing and Indian have awesome new music coming out. The [...]
When I was very young, I remember having an intensely heated argument with my mom over who sang, “Wild World.” I insisted it was Mr. Big while she tried in vain to tell me it was a cover of a Cat Stevens song. Of course, she was right. But she should’ve known better than trying [...]
Prog, power, pomp and punishing metal for this week.
If you don't understand what that headline is a reference to, you've probably got the intelligence of the average fan of said band. And you probably believe in real-life transformers, characters from Street Fighter and the planet Nibiru. Elsewhere, Deicide had a solid first week while Motorhead and Crowbar had solid second weeks on the [...]
Once again, the only hard rock and metal albums shifting units* are classics, red state rock, and greatest hits packages. Just look at this screen cap from this week's Top Hard Music chart: With all due respect to Avenged Sevenfold, Times of Grace and All That Remains - the only bands with newish albums on [...]
Mr. Big What If… Frontiers Records 21 January 2011 A decade on from their last studio release, '80s supergroup Mr. Big return with their comeback album What If… featuring the original line up.
