The Indiecision Five at 5 is our attempt at sharing our musical tastes with you, and showcasing music from around the world. Each weekday at 5pm sharp, one NH7 writer or staffer will bring you five songs he/she is listening to on the day. Today's Monday-blues-killing Five at 5 is brought to you by Abhimanyu Meer. 1. Los Straitjackets - 'Brooklyn Side' Do you know about the awesomeness of Tennessee instrumental rock band Los Straitjackets? You don't? Well, they're currently on my playlist helping me fight through Monday the monday blues. [...]

British producer/multi-instrumentalist Mr. Chop has been flying under our radar for a minute after we covered his Pete Rock homage project, For Pete's Sake . While he did pop up with a slick remix in 2010, we've been itching for some new and original material. Thankfully that arrived this weekend by way of some literally bubbly visuals complement he and drummer Malcolm Cotto's new studio work. The name of the track isn't listed, but we get the feeling it'd be something absurd given the snarling intensity displayed here. If Cotto's name looks [...]

Carpe Diem? I don't know... nothing gets me in more trouble than seizing the day. Pretty much every time. But perhaps I should stop using it in place of applying good judgement. Of course, there is all sorts of unfortunate things that aren't decisions. A force greater than our weakness, and we're pretty weak monkeys. So Yeah, go all out, but don't close your eyes, even for a second... Don't blink. Unless something is coming at your eye... then close that motherfucker and duck. There isn't much better than jazz and breaks... it's like coffee and cigarettes, batman [...]
Now Again Records We’re pleased to announce that Mr. Chop has teamed up with the 5 Day Weekend label – they behind last year’s For Pete’s Sake album – for another bugged-out excursion into the realms of psych-funk. Switched On – Chop’s Moog-synthesizer driven album of classic funk, soul and rock “breakbeat” covers – comes [...]

MP3: Mr. Chop & CL Smooth - T.R.O.Y. (The Resurrection) Nearly 20 years after Pete Rock & CL Smooth made their mark on hip-hop with the classic album Mecca and the Soul Brother, CL Smooth has recorded two new vocal versions over Mr. Chop's psychedelic covers of the original Pete Rock beats. Last year, Mr. Chop – a producer and multi-instrumentalist behind several Now-Again recordings and DOOM's Born Like This – released For Pete's Sake, an album made up entirely of psych, funk, jazz and rock covers of Pete [...]

THANKS DJ F AT BREAKSHOP Mr. Chop – the multi-talented producer, engineer, guitar-reared multi-instrumentalist behind a host of releases on Now-Again and Jazzman Records – couldn’t have foretold that the legendary rapper MF DOOM would call him “the illest to grace the boards” after tapping into his otherworldly skills as co-producer/co-writer on a series of tracks on the recently released Born Like This album on Lex Records. Nor could we have foretold that DOOM’s praise would lead to an offer to rework psych funk, jazz and rock covers of [...]

Time is short these days and I'm going to start experimenting with more time effective ways of posting up all the UK Hip Hop news you need. Today is a snow day so I've got time to work things out. You may see more posts like these: First thing I'd like to tell you to listen to is Mr. Chop's 'For Pete's Sake'. It's basically instrumental reworkings of Pete Rock beats but the beauty of it is that you can play this to anyone and they'll groove to it and all the while you'll be smugly rapping along [...]

On the 2009 release For Pete's Sake, multi-instrumentalist Mr. Chop, fresh from collaborations with MF Doom and Pete Rock, turns in 17 tracks comprising "a futuristic mixture of fuzzy psychedelia, funk, jazz and musique concrete informed by years of...

MR. CHOP “STRAIGHTEN IT OUT” Mr. Chop is a multi-instrumentalist & producer who became Doom's go-to musician for replaying samples on his BORN LIKE THIS album. He's just dropped this Pete Rock tribute album on Now-Again, him doing psych/jazz/rock covers of Pete Rock's best productions: Mr. Chop - For Pete's Sake

Mr. Chop - “T.R.O.Y.” from For Pete's Sake Mr. Chop is a producer, engineer and multi-instrumentalist behind several Now-Again and Jazzman Records releases. Recent work as a co-producer & co-writer on a series of tracks on Born Like This from MF DOOM (who called him “the illest to grace the boards”) led to a chance to rework psych funk, jazz and rock covers of producer Pete Rock’s greatest beats, resulting in For Pete's Sake. His is a unique take that has led to an album that the heads will recognize by, [...]

Mr. Chop " T.R.O.Y. ": Jeff from Stones Throw hit me up saying that Mr. Chop has a psych/funk/jazz album, covering Pete Rock 's best beats entitled For Pete's Sake . This is his take on "T.R.O.Y."... I'm with Marty on this one - I'm not hearing much of the original, but this is dope on its own. Go grab that album!
On the 2008 release Sounds From The Cave, electrofunk act Mr. Chop delivers a tight, gritty platter of psychedelic mayhem. Mr. Chop - The Caveman Mr. Chop - Snob Recently on Comfort Radio: Infadels - Murder That Sound The Cat...
Hey all, Well we've been bloggin for a year and a half now which is actually a really long time. We've had ups and plenty of downs (damn you Dreamhost !) and now we're working towards ramping everything up with a new design. We've also signed up to an advertising network called Mr Chop who have helped us out with a bunch of campaigns including one for iRiver and one for Miami Horror . Now Mr Chop are running a survey to find out a bit more about [...]

I started a new job last week, and I'm way behind on my blog reading, so here's me trying to catch up like usual. Mr. Chop - "Zoid" "Zoid" is about as dark and sinister a mood piece as you can get, with droning synths sorta like Thomas Bangalter's "Paris by Night" , but with the beat moving double-time. ( via ) Speaking of things dark and sinister, Blaqstarr and M.I.A 's cover of "Way Down in the Hole" is an exciting bit of bleak and [...]

Born Coz Littler, Mr. Chop has been around for a while now. He had been releasing his music on his own label, then on Gerald “Jazzman” Short’s Stark Reality label and most recently on a German based label. Littler gets help from The Heliocentrics, Malcolm Catto (drums) and Jake Ferguson (bass) on this record. Its a futuristic mix of fuzzy psychedelia, funk and jazz thats certainly enjoyable. Mr. Chop's Lightworlds , a 7-track EP, is available now and will be released on vinyl [...]
EMI sent me the new Lily Allen song - it is a poor quality rip, but gives you an idea where she is at. DFA Records brings you Runaway, and they bring you some deep, tasty dance floor grooves. Windsurf remind me of Ultramarine - a lovely bit of electronica witn jangly guitars and squiggly synths. The Faze Action is a disco classic, with this version upping the groove factor. Huge. Poni Hoax' bass
A week has gone by and Bagpak Music returns with some more fine tunes to sample and choose from. Check out these great tracks and some Bagpak recommendations below them. Artist: Freddie Cruger Tune: Anglar The third of Swedish Brandy ’s releases was the eagerly awaited Movin’ amongst madness EP produced by the legendary Freddie Cruger aka Red Astaire on GAMM. This Stockholm based label has been busy producing a sublime combination of Soul, Hip Hop, Breaks and Jazz. Deep. Soulful grooves is the flavor of this four track EP. [...]
