Many rumors are circulated about Larry Heard — the man who put the 'deep' in house music. The legend himself talks about his true history: how he swapped his drums for machines and became a part of the blossoming Chicago house scene of the mid-'80s. Doing his "research," he met up with vocalist Robert Owens, with whom he formed the infamous Fingers Inc. This self-proclaimed "late bloomer" has stayed spiritual, soulful, and productive. Can you feel it? Lecture: Larry Heard (Seattle 2005) from Red Bull Music Academy on [...]

'Closer ' was a 1992 release from Larry Heard, under his oft-used Mr. Fingers pseudonym. My pick is the " Dude Mix " from Frankie Foncett , a prolific producer who also remixed Eternal and later added an "e" to his last name. Apparently, he's a Spurs fan. I had the joy of hearing this record a few times over the weekend, and there is no doubt it's an absolute burner. The original version from Gerd is a ripper, especially when that bass line hits for the first time. Sure enough the Alden Tyrell and Serge remix also holds it own and makes the original Royal Oak record worth the money. But then Royal Oak releases a huge remix package from Deetron and the one and only Mr Fingers. Larry Heard takes things in a very different, but beautiful direction. His age [...]

If you're recently getting into the Chicago and Acid House thing you'll sound silly if you don't know what Trax Records is. "TRAX, the original home of house music, gave birth to the biggest movement in club music since the dawn of Disco. TRAX stands in a class by itself, as the quintessential music catalog that defines the house sound.TRAX is now back, with brand new releases, a catalog of remastered classics and great compilations" There are way too many names on their roster to mention here, but these guys have been around for [...]
The dub version of the classic house jam 'Mystery of Love' from all the way back in 1986. For us, this version is far superior in vibes to the original. Its as dreamy as they come,... DOWNLOAD/ STREAM http://www.feelmybicep.com

When we think of house legends there are a handful of names like Ron Hardy, Marshall Jefferson, Romanthony etc. But one name that has stayed top of my list is none other then Larry Heard AKA Mr. Fingers . Rush Hour have recently released a two part compilation titled Chicago Dance Tracks. Here is one of my old favourites that made the cut. Finger fucking good. Mr. Fingers - Finger Fuck [Buy]
Needed to get this up, an old classic, the quintessential Larry Heard sound and one that made me fall in love with house. Caught Theo Parrish dropping this a couple of weeks back at like 135bpm and... DOWNLOAD/ STREAM http://www.feelmybicep.com

Deep Space Orchestra are lucky enough to be celebrating the 15th Delusions of Grandeur release with their new Lo Pan EP. The title track is heavily influenced by Mr Fingers/Mr White as far as I can tell, and they pull it off extremely well with an old school arrangement really showcasing the brilliant choice of sounds and production. I'm not a massive fan of the Trickski remix however I can imagine it would do wonders in their hometown. The B Side track Disarm is a little more modern sounding and drives along nicely. All in [...]

With any successful artist comes a time where they need to reinvent themselves and find a new direction. Ferry Corsten is no different. He's been around dance music for over ten years simply because of his curiosity to experiment with new styles and sounds. From his epic trance style of Out of The Blue , to his electro infused L.E.F. …and now his trouse style? Yes, "trouse;" it's that gray area often labeled progressive, but it features a more housy grove with a melodic trance-like touch. The journey into this novel style began just a year [...]

Caribou - Leave House (Motor City Drum Ensemble Remix) My favourite mixes within the everlasting !k7 DJ Kicks series are the ones by Thievery Corporation, Erland Oye, Truby Trio and James Holden. I still listen once every hangover sofa-surfing sunday afternoon. After the last successful and praised mix-cd with Wolf+Lamb vs Soul Clap the Dj serious just announced the next DJ Kicks artist mix to be released in july. By none other but my favorite percussionist Danilo Plessow far often known [...]
A real pleasure for us, while over here doing a few parties in NYC Tim asked us onto the show to drop some of our stuff. Unfortunatly Matt was held up in Dubai and couldn't make this one,... DOWNLOAD/ STREAM http://www.feelmybicep.com

Today I've been watching videos about Ultra Deep Field . Doing that I realise how small I am, and that sets me free. You should have a read too, as just like Hawkings says, humankind can be saved only by moving to space. MP3 Mr Fingers - Stars (320K) (ge.tt)

Mr. Fingers - Stars (1988)

Back to the dawn of house for this weeks classic as we let Mr Fingers (aka Larry Heard) do the talking. "Can you feel it" is one of several seminal Chicago house tunes released by Larry his friends and their many fingers guises. For me this is the most notable with the Jackson 5 sample near the beginning and the amazing Robert Owens vocal. Mr Fingers - Can You Feel It

Hi everyone. Hopefully your summer has been filled with lots of partying, dancing and good times. Every now and again, I switch up my monthly mixes to introduce a new series and keep it fresh. Initially when I was brainstorming, I had planned to go a ll the way in on the old-school house music but as time passed and I started to play more songs, this expanded into a more mellow set of house, dance, electronica and some jazzier picks. I think they blend pretty well together. Plus [...]
Animal Collective and Danny Perez's collaborated film ODDSAC came out today on DVD. This means new music from Animal Collective. The boys have been so busy in the past two years, first releasing Merriweather Post Pavilion, then Fall Be Kind EP. This film project has also been two years in the making apparently. We've got a seven minute long belter called 'Mr. Fingers' that sounds like 'Lion in a Coma"s depressed sibling. That's the best way I can think of to describe it. Also there's an accoustic track [...]
Animal Collective 's much talked about "visual album", ' ODDSAC ', hits stores today (August 10). Among the songs featured on the album are " Mr. Fingers " And " Screens ". Fans who have yet to get their hands on the album can stream both of those tracks below, minus the "visual" part.
