Thursday, February 9, 2012 Mr. Gnome As I've said before, SXSW tends to turn out better for those that are in the process of doing stuff that doesn't just revolve around the festival. Mr. Gnome, as you probably guessed, is in that boat. They put out a full length last year, they have a 7" due out March 20, and now they're about to embark on a two month tour. In regards to their music, it's moody, experimental and usually packing some [...]

So today is either the day you have been waiting for or dreading, depending on stance on LDR. Personally I don't really care anymore. But that is mostly because I don't care about ANYTHING anymore so that is just one more thing to not care about. It's pretty exhausting to have keep track of so so many things I no longer care about. Adam Arcuragi: Like a fire that consumes all before it... The Asteroids Galaxy Tour: Out of Frequency The Big [...]

Florida doesn't have the best history with alternative-rock music festivals, but that hasn't stopped Orlando's Orange You Glad from going strong for four years. The festival's 2012 iteration, set for March 8-11th, packs its biggest bill yet. Cults, Grimes, Tennis, Everything is Terrible, and Born Gold have already been confirmed, and today the festival added Fake Problems, Zambri, Mr. Gnome, Grandchildren, Deleted Scenes, and more. Check out the festival's current lineup at our Festival Outlook and stay tuned for further lineup announcements. We're also excited to announce that Consequence of Sound will be [...]

Well, some of it's interesting Mr. Gnome are a Cleveland-based duo made up of Nicole Barille on vocals and guitar and Sam Meister on drums and occasional keyboards. The songs often feel like the product of a tension between the two -- with Barille's swoopy little-girl voice pulling into dreamy pop territory and Meister's clockwork pounding lending a harder edge. Mr. Gnome is not a band that find a groove and sticks with it. Tunes like "We Sing Electric" start...
After delivering several albums with flashes of brilliance but a lack of consistency, mr. Gnome have taken their biggest stride with Madness in Miniature, their third full-length album. Their previous two carried a common plague, where style reigned over substance as memorable hooks failed to form with over-active arrangements or superfluous stylistic pursuits. When mr.

Cleveland's Mr. Gnome is band that strips down to the basics, without ever sounding stripped down. Forget the convention of the power trio, this is a power duo.Nicole Barille on vocals and guitar and Sam Meister on drums, occasional piano and back-up vocals - that's it. Just as bombastic as the White Stripes, just as enigmatic as Wye Oak and just as crafty as the Black Keys, Mr. Gnome plays music
One of the most delightfully dynamic bands out there today sits down with PopMatters to talk about its new album, and along the way reveal what a "forgy" is. Mr. Gnome has never really been a "play by the rules" kind of band. Madness in Miniature -- the Cleveland duo's third full-length album -- features singer/guitarist Nicole Barille and drummer/pianist Sam Meister doing what they do best: playing whatever the hell they want. Although Barille is blessed with a vocal quality that recalls the Yeah Yeah Yeahs' Karen O at her most seductive, the group's sound veers [...]

Mr. Gnome Another week, another Mercury music section to read through tear-brimming eyes as you learn that longtime Northeast music store Daddy's Junky Music has gone out of business . Fare thee well, Daddy. Or Junky. Whatever your nickname was. I'll always remember looking at the crappy Mexican-made guitars that adorned your walls. • Speaking of gear, Cleveland's Mr. Gnome are swimming in it, using only two people to make a dense, swirling rock noise with goth and surrealistic tinges. Their excellent new record, [...]

Who's hands are those above - Chris Martin? DJ Cam? M. Ward? Nope, it's Marc Byrd from the duo of Hammock leading our indie list for the week, while larger names, such as Coldplay, Tom Waits and several others make for a lively treat. Byrd and Andrew Thompson formed in 2004 as Hammock , which sends a shimmering shoegaze effort in mostly everything we have heard from them. Their latest album Asleep in the Downlights could go any direction as the duo has mastered their expressive music to match their constantly-in-motion lives. Of [...]

I've spoken of Mr. Gnome several times in the past and this week they release their new record. Madness in Miniature is a moving effort of capturing structures built on flourishes of sound, dynamics, and complimentary atmosphere. The album was recorded at Josh Homme's Pink Duck Studios in Los Angeles with Justin Smith on board (QOTSA, Eagles of Death Metal, Arctic Monkeys, Them Crooked Vultures). To see what it all means listen to "Ate the Sun" along with "Bit [...]

I've long been convinced that Cleveland's mr. Gnome is destined for the big time. Now, admittedly, over the years here at MOKB, I've picked a few bands to click, only to have them clack. Nobody's perfect. That being said, this noisy little duo manages to terrify and tantalize in equal measure with songs that exfoliate your senses without sacrificing tunefulness. Their newest release, Madness In Miniature , might be just the thing to get them over the hump. Lead single Bit Of Tongue proved to be such [...]
