It's fair to say that Maryland rapper, Edan is a bit of a slacker. I rarely hear Mr. Lif listed among the most, as they say, "political rappers." He's not mentioned alongside the more aggressive likes of Immortal Technique, nor is he someone who I picture kids who get their philosophy from Tumblr to understand. But if we're talking about enlightened, informed hip-hop over the past decade, I couldn't think of many artists who better define the role of activist rhymer. Lif has set the bar for progressive hip-hop, from kicking The Man on " Live from the Plantation ," to denting the public's perception of WMDs on " Memorial Day " [...]

Thievery Corporation is out with a new track featuring Mr. Lif (of The Perceptionists) that is sure to be the new anthem for the Occupy movement (sorry Miley). It was only a matter of time before the D.C. natives (and godfathers of the music scene) produced a song about the movement. Mr. Lif explains the song as their "attempt to offer inspiration, energy, and hopefully a morale boost to the Movement as it will take persistence and resilience to bring about change to the collective consciousness of our culture."
