This will be our last post this year with some kind of Christmas approach. And we must end it in style, with the most loved (and hated) Christmas theme ever, "Last Christmas" from 1984 by Wham! We've collected some versions of this cracker where actually all of them are really good versions. Really like the Holmes Price edit, the new version to play forthcoming Christmases. Wham! - Last Christmas (Holmes Price Edit) Wham! - Last Christmas (Irregular Disco Workers Edit) Wham! - [...]

In 1984, Wham! released "Last Christmas" as the flipside of the single "Everything She Wants" (which is, by the way, a pretty good song). I didn't pay much attention, having found "Young Guns (Go for It!)" to be silly, "Bad Boys" to be negligible and "Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go" to be one of life's greatest tortures. As the years passed, covers of "Last Christmas" kept showing up in my collection and the song finally grew on me. I still don't care for the original version by Wham! In fact, I would argue that the [...]
Mr. Suitcase 's gig at Klubb Rotor in Uppsala on December 12 might be the last you hear of him in a long while: http://www.mrsuitcase.se/site/ 2008/11/one-more-kickdrum-for- the-road/

Mr. Suitcase is a great indie/electronic musician who had an idea for a mix that turned into a album/mix titled Fraud. Here it is in his own words. Mr. Suitcase - Frauds (2008) This past winter, I began putting together what I'd planned to be a mixtape for my friends. But instead of just mixing songs in a set, I suddenly found myself weaving the tracks together, inspired by collage aesthetics and ambient pop. I [...]

Here's this week's obligatory listening, folks! MP3: Bell Hollow - "Our Water Burden" MP3: Morrissey - "I Have Forgiven Jesus" MP3: Greg Summerlin - "Unlucky In Love" MP3: The Noisettes - "Scratch Your Name" MP3: Mr. Suitcase [...]
The lead single from Mr. Suitcase 's debut full-length "Guidelines for an emerging century" is pleasant enough, but undemanding. It passes by without leaving an impression. I keep anticipating that each new chorus will explode, but it never ever happens. That cascading vocal line could be huge if it was supported by a heavier beat. Is it a conscious move? To keep things more lowkey and "indie"? If so, it was the wrong decision. Someone alert me when there's a proper bangin' remix.

You Don't Smile Anymore Ours is a [...]
1) Before the break-up, there's the cruel, cold, realization that the relationship just doesn't work . Mr. Suitcase & Sanna Fischer take the supercool cold Euro-electrodancepop route, with Sanna bemoaning to her paramour that You Don't Smile Anymore . In the background, a mechanical, synthy voice asks repeatedly 'How did we get here?', and that, I s'pose, is the real beginning to any breakup. Buy 'Guidelines For An Emerging Century' ------ 2) No, you're not over him? Yeah, neither is Lisa Loeb . Do You Sleep? [...]

I'm not the first to jump on the Mr. Suitcase's new single from Guideline for An Emerging Century on Kitty Litter Records (Parker Lewis). But I also won't be the last. Mr Suitcase has been remixing songs by some of Sweden's best artists for a couple of years but he hadn't released a full length of his own...until now. The first single is called "You Don't Smile Anymore" and as is his custom he's also provided two remixes. You Don't Smile Anymore [...]
I'm totally slammed at work, so I don't have time to post my Top Albums of the Year list. Look for it later this week when things calm down a bit (hopefully). In the meantime, I wanted to point you in the direction of Mr. Suitcase . I don't really know much about them, but their song "Ours Is A Time For Falling In Love" is a dancefloor anthem in the making. It's not the type of song that beats you over the head with harsh electronic beats and lame pump up [...]
