San Diego band Mrs. Magician may believe in magic; however, that doesn't mean they believe in God. The band has released the new single, "There Is No God", from their debut album, Strange Heaven , just released through Swami Reocrds. The band mixes melody with irreverent humor and a punk attitude as evident on their atheist anthem. Download Mrs. Magician's single, "There Is No God", below. Read more »

It was sweaty times at The Troubadour for the highly-anticipated Hot Snakes' show. The reunited post-hardcore group got down to business and gave the diehards exactly what they craved, including two encores. Fellow Swami Records' bands Spider Fever and Mrs. Magician opened. By Chris Gedos Mrs. Magician's Strange Heaven LP is a great surf-rock offering for those waiting for the weather to break in colder climes. The previously posted "There Is No God" is still the centerpiece, but there's six or seven tracks which will make solid secondary singles, one of which is "The Spells", a lazy 21st C. "Doctor Robert" + "Love Potion #9". Mrs. Magician isn't really a hit-you-with-the-first-lick sort of band; their advanced lyricism and understated instrumentation (no solo battles here) [...]
San Diego-based rock and roll group Mrs. Magician will be playing three shows in San Francisco at the end of the month and in early April, promoting their new album Strange Heaven , which is already available digitally and will be released physically on April 17th through Swami Records . Strange Heaven was produced by John Reis (Rocket From the Crypt, Drive Like Jehu, Hot Snakes), and Mrs. Magician has been described as a "Southern California dream gone awry" in the way they fuse melodies reminiscent of the Beach [...]
By Chris Gedos So Cal four-piece Mrs. Magician is in the midst of a cross-country jaunt with fellow San Diegans, Cults. They're less influenced by the NYC girl groups, instead taking cues from Don Van Vliet and a whole lot of jangle pop. Fans of irreverent, Rivers Cuomo / Stephin Merritt style songwriting should wake up early this Tuesday, March 6th, and purchase a digital copy of their debut LP, Strange Heaven , out via Swami records. The Prescription Vision 7" was released [...]
Mrs. Magician might be only a couple small steps away from Spacemen 3 in sound, but in personality, they hail from an entirely different sounding garage. Channeling dissatisfaction with everything from God to nightlife to the '80s, singer Jacob Turnbloom and guitarist Tommy Garcia are able to make the blues come out sounding about as sweet as you've ever heard it, like something went wrong on their way to being pissed off, and before they knew it, their catchy hooks got the better of them. Perhaps some of the band's strange fascination with the supernatural [...]

Album Review: Mrs. Magician – Strange Heaven
Loading their debut with a biting edge, Mrs. Magician becomes more than just another surf-rock band with a West Coast calling card. Strange Heaven still incorporates the sunny, beachside energy expected of San Diego natives, but this quartet arrives with a shocking amount of spunk, distinguishing them as a band who's willing to show us the dark side of their California roots, too. This debut exploration into their Strange Heaven doesn't yield anything too complex, instead giving us an album of simple, short-lived fun. Using the continuous support of fuzzed out guitars and drums to reinforce each of their 13 [...]

HEAR THIS: Mrs. Magician
Mrs. Magician is a throwback to '60s pop rock… almost. The lyrics on "Strange Heaven" might catch you off guard!
Introducing: Mrs. Magician
In a couple of months, San Diego's surf rock quartet Mrs. Magician will release their debut album Strange Heaven via Swami Records . The full length is undeniably influenced by the drifting feel of California, those hazy teenage nights and the one and only, The Beach Boys. Mrs.Magician is a band with hooky lyrics on amplified and fuzzed out indie rock. If you're a fan of owning physical copies of music such as vinyl records, it is not too late to order the band's Prescription Vision 7" through Grizzly Records [...]

Mrs. Magician Put Off Full Length Debut, Release 7″
While San Diego Satan-surf band Mrs. Magician continues to morph from an initially mysterious thrill into an illuminated, deceptively feel-good garage pop group, there has been apparently little activity on the release front since last Fall's There is No God 73 and this past Spring's The Spells 73 . While tripped-out music videos for "Get Bent" and "Tabloids" have randomly popped up in the past several months, their then-forthcoming debut full-length Pity Party Animal - though scheduled for release in June 2011 - never saw the [...]
