I first caught wind of Planningtorock when The Knife announced the release of their opera score Tomorrow, In A Year. Along with Mt. Sims , Planningtorock collaborated with the Swedish Avant-garde electro-pop group on this monster that left Knife fans confused and grasping for accessibility. On Monday DFA Records announced that it will be releasing Planningtorock's much anticipated second album, W , giving us the first single, The Breaks, and a free [...]
From the cryptic electronic pop artist, Planningtorock comes the sophmore full-length release "W." The sublime chamber-pop release is the follow-up to the Planningtorock synth-pop 2006 debut "Have It All." Planningtorock is comprised of Janine Rostron, the multi-instrumentalist and videographer from Berlin. The crafted experimental musician virtuously amalgamates various genres from classical to hip-hop and glam rock to opera, which culminate to showcase her alluring musical and video talents. Janine Rostron produces the intriguing and ultimately recognizable, almost mystical androgynous vocal delivery and intricately organized concert arrangements. The concert sets involve the distortion between live shows and the art [...]
Last year, a unique musical opera based on Charles Darwin and his book "On The Origin Of Species" was performed, and subsequently released, by The Knife, Mt. Sims and Planningtorock, which from my understanding has been highly praised well beyond the Scandinavian scene. I haven't sample the opera and before today I've been totally ignorant of Planningtorock , Janine Rostron musical alter-ego, a highly atmospheric and eery outfit - in a word a faithful, still genuine, The Knife tribute. It's enough to entertain yourself with the self-direct music video for "Doorway" below to understand exactly what I'm [...]
W-where did the time go? One minute I'm going to a New Years party and the next thing I know, it's over 9000 minutes later and I'm writing my yearly "Best Of" post. This year was a tough decision as I frequently found myself comparing apples to oranges . Yes, they're both fruits but that's where the similarities end. You see, on one hand there's apples...forbidden fruit, teachers pet, home of the worm. And then there's oranges...citrus, nothing rhymes with, orange you glad I didn't say banana? [...]

Much has been made of Karin Dreijer Andersson's return to her now-fairly incongruous day job as one half of Sweden's premium Venetian-masked disturbed electro maestros and Tomorrow, In A Year is a bold stab into the darkness of the unknown, particularly for such vehemently shy and retiring siblings (until 2006 they'd never dared to venture out into the sweat-inducing spotlights [...]

Music Review: The Knife with Mt. Sims and Planningtorock - Tomorrow, In a Year
An immensely challenging and ultimately satisfying work of art.
The Knife – Tomorrow, In a Year
When the siblings Dreijur took on a commission by a progressive theatre production company to score an electro-opera based on the life, work and theories of one Charles Darwin barely a brow was raised. It's not that Tomorrow, In a Year is a natural progression from Karin and Olaf's monolithic masterpiece, Silent Shout , but rather a project so conceptual, so innovative is exactly what is expected from the enigmatic pair. Where a traditional opera might entail performances of libretto and acting against visual stage-scenery and dramatic musical score, Hotel Pro [...]

Album Review: The Knife - Tomorrow, In a Year
The Knife released one of the most critically acclaimed albums of the 2000s, and one half of the duo released one of 2009's most lauded albums under the moniker Fever Ray. Based on their combined discography, Swedish siblings Karin Dreijer Andersson and Olof Dreijer appear to be on a creative streak that most musicians would kill for. (And judging by the enigmatic personas this sister and brother meticulously cultivate, I wouldn't be surprised if they did commit murder along the way.) The Knife's music has only improved with each release. Now, four years after their seminal LP Silent [...]
