Mt. St. Helens Vietnam Band sure move quickly. Even though its self-titled debut came just out last year, the Seattle outfit is already prepping its sophomore release. Where The Messengers Meet will drop on August 3rd (2nd in the U.K.), through Dead Oceans . Recorded over the course of eight months in the band's hometown, the album promises to expand on the sound created for last year's debut. The group is looking to collect powerful compositions into one cohesive whole, held together with lush production and a haunting atmosphere. Thematically, fans can [...]

Wow, where do I even start? The whole weekend is just a complete blur now. I'm going to need the whole day to just sit here and unwind. It was amazing, hot, cold, uncomfortable, rainy, sunny, expensive and yet somehow still totally worth every penny. Saturday -A few hundred people have arrived and the mood is one of general relaxing for one of the first acts, Shabazz Palaces. I missed Dawes, so I don't know how that went. I strayed from the main stage a little bit, but they have a pretty [...]
I'm surely digging this first released track from Mt. St. Helens Vietnam Band's second album Where The Messengers Meet (out August 3rd via Dead Oceans). Check it: mp3: Mt, St. Helens... [go to the website to read the rest of the article, download mp3s and more]

mp3: Mt. St. Helens Vietnam Band -- "Leaving Trails" Seems deeper, maybe more fuzzed, maybe less playful than the previous release, though no big changes. Still a good song. Their s/t was one of my faves in 2009 , this time around I hope they get the recognition they deserve. Mt. St. Helens Vietnam Band 's new album, Where The Messengers Meet , is out in August. mp3: Sunglasses -- "Whiplash" Really like this band from GA. Get [...]

Seattle's power-punk volcano champions Mt. St. Helens Vietnam Band have released a track from their forthcoming 2nd LP Where the Messengers Meet . You can get the album August 3rd from Dead Oceans. "Leaving Trails" is slightly less molten than previous songs found on the self-titled debut, but no less engaging. Sort of a mellow rock crooner. You'll notice that guitarist/keyboardist Matt Dammer is no longer part of the band, which is a shame. His additions gave much depth to the band's controlled chaos. But they still have drummer wunderkind Marshall Verdoes, who really [...]
"Albatross, Albatross, Albatross" was my first experience with Mt. St. Helens Vietnam Band and shortly after finding that gem, I quickly began listening to everything they had to offer. Luckily, I will have some new material to venture through as the group is releasing their upcoming album Where, The Messengers Meet on 08/03 through Dead Oceans . The track "Leaving Trails" is from this upcoming release .. DOWNLOAD :: Mt. St. Helens Vietnam Band – “Leaving Trails” - [ MP3 ] -Mangtooth [...]

A lot of people don't like it when you say a band is the "bastard child of...", but, I'm not one of "those people." I find it to be one of the best ways to describe someone pretty well. Mt. St. Helens Vietnam band sound like the bastard child of Interpol and The Strokes and grew up listening to Spoon. The garagey vibe with the monotone, sing-talk lyrics. "Leaving Trails" rocks out in a completely garage/indie-pop way and has a summer-time vibe. MP3: Mt. [...]

Just a short 18 months ago, Seattle based group Mt. St. Helen's Vietnam Band released their suprising debut LP on the world. Now the band is already prepping new release Where the Messengers Meet for a drop date at the end of the summer on the Dead Oceans label . Here's wonderfully produced and epic style first single from that release "Leaving Trails". Count me as on board for this one. Download: Mt. St. Helen's Vietnam Band - Leaving Trails [MP3]

Dead Oceans announced yesterday the sophomore release by Portland's Mt. St. Helens Vietnam Band , titled Where The Messengers Meet . The album, out August 3, hits about a year and a half after the band's self-titled debut. That album came in just outside our top 10 album of 2009 thanks to angular, erratic, and often hauntingly frantic musicianship fronted by expert, harmonic vocals. This new offering comes with a tune from the forthcoming album. The song is called "Leaving [...]
:: Want to hear two new Arcade Fire songs alongside a fancy bit of Flash animation? :: Not only is Nine Inch Nails not dead, but Rezzy's first NIN song in two years is for the closing credits of a movie. :: The Academy Is... and Kiss together . Makes sense, right? :: Ra Ra Riot gave us the name of its sophomore album: The Orchard . :: Turns out, [...]

My 2009 favorites are becoming Sophomores This is a release that I am getting quite excited for! Granted, I just found out today, but Mt. St. Helens Vietnam Band's first self-titled album was a brilliant 2009 release. A stellar debut that I enjoy multiple times a week. Where The Messengers Meet will be released on August 3rd via Dead Oceans . Check out the first single below. [...]
Brace yourselves for Where The Messengers Meet. It'll see daylight on 8/3. Watch 'Albatross Albatross Albatross' here. MP3: Mt. St. Helens Vietnam Band - Leaving Trails

If every album was as good as it's press release made it sound, well, I wouldn't have much to write about. The press release for the new Frog Eyes record and tour reads like madlibs made by Rain Man, having too much fun with the adjectives, finally climaxing in a series of unrelated words, "heavy, raw, literate, otherworldy and in the end, utterly compelling." Call me a pessimist , but I'm preparing to be disappointed by these lofty expectations. Prove me wrong, Frog Eyes! Due for release on on April 27th, Paul's Tomb: A Triumph marks [...]
On 1/12/10 Camp Revival sat down with Mt. St. Helens Vietnam Band to talk to them about some of their worst show experiences. Above is a video of the band regurgitating a brutal show that they played on December 2008 at The Echo in Los Angeles, CA.
My penchant for music accumulation (obviously) didn’t end while we were working through our Best of 2009 lists. By the mere nature of making lists, some music is simply acquired too late to be considered; other tracks don’t fit into any specific ordering. But over the past month I’ve heard a few tracks that I [...]

The year 2009 was, for me (as I’m sure it was for many people) a mixed bag. I’ve always found New Years Eve a fine time for reflection—or getting wasted, if you’re so inclined—and this year is no different. I don’t want to fixate on the fact that a new decade is arriving, and I’d rather just look at it through a lighthearted lens. In seriousness, though, the position that I’m finding myself in now is infinitely better than the position I left 2008 in. As always, music plays pretty heavily into my life and my memories—and [...]

2009 is a tough year to judge. I've checked out more albums this year than any year in the past. Well over 1,000. And there have been quite a few great ones as well. When this list began, it had 110 albums. I abandoned my top 33 and 1/3 for 45, and then said "screw it" and upped the number to an even 50. These are the top notch albums of the year, all worthy of praise. Despite trouble all around, 2009 wasn't all that bad. [...]
