Today we flash back on another of our favourite labels: SUB POP RECORDS . They're responsible for the careers of a diverse range of bands, from Nirvana to Dum Dum Girls to our very own Husky . And they're celebrating 25 years in the business on July 13. That means that they've been around since 1988. Before that founder Bruce Pavitt started a fanzine called Subterranean Pop about American independent artists and their labels. He started releasing compilations [...]

Photo by Rachel Del Sordo Talk about an ideal match-up. Philly proto-punk aficionados Pissed Jeans , who released the hard-hitting Honeys earlier this year on Sub Pop Records , will tour with their labelmates and sonic ancestors Mudhoney. If you've spent any time with Honeys - particularly "Cathouse" or "Teenage Adult" - you know the bands will play totally well off one another. There might even be some possibility of Pissed Jeans, with their well-earned reputation for live ragers, upstaging the headliners. But don't be so sure on that last [...]

photo by Renata Steiner ( view set ) Few bands have influenced Seattle's sound like Mudhoney . Twenty five years ago, to this month, Mark Arm and Steve Turner rejoined after leaving Green River to form a group that would weather all storms of the so-called "Grunge" scene. Their initial, poorly selling but highly influential single and EP ("Touch Me I'm Sick" and Superfuzz Bigmuff , respectively) led to a contract with the majors followed by a return to the local label that started them off, Sub Pop (also celebrating its 25th year). Though [...]

Watching 40-50 year olds moshing with the best of 'em was just one of many entertaining aspects of this show.

Mudhoney released Vanishing Point their ninth full length album on April 4th, 2013 via Sub Pop Records. The band has come a long way from 1988’s Superfuzz Bigmuff , however this new album builds on some of the bands earlier sounds and influences, while at the same time bringing in elements of 2008’s The Lucky Ones and their 2000 era sound, featuring more Stooges based freak out instrumentation. Lyrically, vocalist Mark Arm sharply hones his lyrics in a humorous, wit filled style, the kind that Mudhoney fans have come to love. [...]

Photos and words by Scott Sheff Thirty years may have passed since they came onto the scene, but that didn’t stop veteran grunge/punk rockers Mudhoney from delivering a fast-paced, high energy set for a packed house at The Echo. With fans passing out before the show and the smell of vomit wafting through the air, you’d think it was 1988 all over again. While there may have been less moshing and rowdiness than in years past, the older crowd still banged their heads, crowd surfed and even managed a few stage dives throughout the show. One [...]

ARTIST: Mudhoney - [Album] with free mp3 downloads for 'The Only Son Of The Widow From Nain' and 'I Like It Small' from Vanishing Point by Mudhoney DATE: 04-12-13 REVIEW BY: Bill Adams It's so nice to have Mudhoney back. With some alt-rock and grunge bands trying to "change with the times" and alienating a lot of older fans with that ambition (see Jane's Addiction, Alice In Chains and The Melvins) and others trying to act like 1993 wasn't almost twenty years ago (see Soundgarden and [...]

Celebrating 25 years as not only a Seattle but a national institution, local label Sub Pop is throwing a party on Saturday, July 13th, in the historic (and industrial) Georgetown neighborhood and we're all invited. The Silver Jubilee is free to all and features, as was announced today, an incredible initial lineup. Here to introduce the bands, some of Sub Pop's elder statesmen: In case you hear it all over the din of industry and construction, these are just some of the bands you'll be able [...]
