Lana del Rey/Lizzy Grant/whoever she's choosing to be contemporarily, the artificial product of anti-inspiration, may well be shuffling about, spluttering, and muttering calculatedly and choreographically if awkwardly in front of regurgitated Tumblr GIFs a few hundred metres down the road, yet exceedingly more cataclysmic furore is to unravel tonight up towards the anything but heavenly Angel, à la upstairs at The Lexington. More twisted and crazed than the minds of del Rey's coldblooded label dictators are Gentle Friendly , who trash out an almost constant, unabating stream of [...]

You haven't heard of Munch Munch ? Yea, neither had I until a few days ago when I stumbled upon them by accident, searching the nets. I come across this incredible sound; to me, it seemed to hint at a bunch of white Britons doing their best to emulate TV on the Radio . It had that same similar shifting in time signatures, if only for brief moments, driving rhythms, and darkly operatic voices that just soar. So I checked out their album, which may not be out in the States yet, and [...]
Ein glänzendes 2011 prophezeie ich Munch Munch , die sich eigentlich dem unaufmerksamen Hörer versperren sollten. Also nichts mit TOP 10. Und, immer wenn wir nicht weiter wissen, dann nennen wir das einfach Noise-Pop. Munch Munch / Bold man of the sea

Tweet Friday means free music! This week we were alerted by the mighty NME (my dad still calls them the New Musical Express) of a Bristol band called Munch Munch . Once again I was instantly won over simply by their name. I'm a sucker for a good band name. Check em out on Soundcloud below and / or follow this link to download . Munch Munch - 'Wolfman's Wife' [...]

Caught between Bristol solitude and the gloriously sprawling urbane urbanity of London, it's ever so slightly disorientating back in the land of Magic Rolls, accents not digested since Glastonbury , and vague responsibility. Bristol as a city's never been regarded as a particularly affluent hub where traditional guitar music's concerned although if Rough Trade's ears have been pricked perhaps the future's not as murky as the gunk residing beneath the Clifton Suspension Bridge... Indubitably Bristol's best inherently quirky pop minstrels are Munch Munch . Having kicked about for months upon [...]
Filed under: Concerts and Tours Playing a phenomenal eight showcase gigs at SXSW 2010, Bristol's Munch Munch look determined to work hard since three of the four members have now graduated from college. "We haven't played in the US before, there's so much stuff we've just realised we have to sort out at the last moment: like power adapters, car hire, visas." New single 'Cyclorama' is out this month on TomLab records. Spinner caught up with Carrell in between car journeys to sort out all the details ahead of [...]

Over here at the NickyDigital HQ, we're counting down the days until the South By South West music marathon begins! In less than two weeks, we'll be down in Texas eating tacos, drinking some sort of cheap mexican beer, and most importantly checking out tons and tons of new artists, as well as spending some quality time with our old favorites. Over the next two weeks, in preparation for SxSW 2010, NickyDigital.com will be bringing you a daily artist or showcase that we don't want you to miss! [...]

Inside the crystal dome of the snowglobe that the Gods shake with childish abandon rises a pyramid of Jodorowski tarot cards, at whose top you will find your animated 20jazzfunkgreats miniatures dancing in the midst of the blizzard, Christmas is coming and we shall enjoy it in our own special ...

It's busy week, in the absence of Mrs. Toad, and ends with me actually DJing twice in the space of two nights towards the end of the week as well once at some point on Friday, although I'm not all that sure where - Cabaret Voltaire I think - and then the following day at the Bowery at MarchéMarché , which should be good fun. I have been promised that on no account am I expected to motivate people to dance, which probably helps matters considerably. Oh, and I've just realised that I am approaching a hundred kilos [...]
Walking into the newly re-branded, re-decorated, re-everything-ed 'Relentless' Garage in Highbury hideous treble reverberates around the arch, despite the best efforts of support act Munch Munch. My worst apprehension appears to be confirmed; sound has been compromised during redevelopment of the old sweat pit and aesthetics have taken priority. What's more it has not been [...]

Myspace // "Endolphins" [mp3] Last year, I got hooked on the British teen drama Skins and while I was in the country this May, I picked up both of the series on DVD. It was nice to finally sit down and watch all of the episodes in order, uninterrupted, without trying to track them down in seedy corners of the internet or catching them in ten minute bursts on YouTube. I hadn't thought about the show [...]

I got sent this one a little bit back. It's a newer band from BRISTOL, UK called MUNCH MUNCH . They make great lo-fi pop punk with great harmonies and loose beats. Just the kind of stuff that puts a smile on my face and is very much in the vein of what i like to think of as 'the other dance music'. fans of MATT & KIM, TEAM ROBESPIERRE and LOS CAMPESINOS will be stoked when they hear this. Here's 2, one song 'Wedding' off their debut 7" and another 'Untitled' EXCLUSIVE. [...]

Bristol's Munch Munch are the first to take to the stage. I'd been meaning to write about these guys ever since I got hold of their Wedding EP a few months ago. On record, their unconventional take on pop is as shambolic as it is brilliant and tonight's performance was no different. The battling duo of keyboards are chaotic, pulsating notes spilt and echo off each other while vibrant drumbeats ring out and the occasional xylophone sing bright melodies. But when it all comes together, in the pounding synth riff in Wedding, its not crisp enough to make [...]
With my current Times New Viking infatuation soaring to ear-threatening levels, I've been willfully subjecting myself to unhealthy levels of fuzz. We currently live in a paradoxical time where cheap software makes producing a fairly polished sounding recording exceedingly easy and good old 4-track recordings are also much easier to distribute to the world outside your basement. It's now just a question of aesthetics and intent. My tastes are bi-polar. Either give me meticulous DFA perfectionism or sublimely undercooked enthusiasm. From the latter column, here's a quick rundown of what's sounding good in the relatively recent world of [...]

MP3: Munch Munch - Wedding You know the bit of the UK that sticks out down to the south west out Britian? They exist at the top of it. They are Bristolians, like previously featured Message to Bears and I've been sent some hot off the press grand tuneage. It sounds like pumping post-rock, and then you realise the lack a certain direction, and coherence, you realise they have absolutely no license to make this sort of music, which sends them careering out of control towards a sort of indie-pop, [...]

Give a kid a laptop and they can be a superstar...or at least get featured on a music blog. Munch Munch is a band from Bristol, UK made up of Thomas Carrell and Richard Manber. They make lo-fi bedroom recordings with all sorts of instruments and, as mentioned, their laptop. They both play keyboards, ukulele, drums, percussion, melodica, glock, and contribute vocally. They say they are influenced by the day, the night, Enya, Deerhoof, Man Man, Liars, The Microphones, Magnetic Fields, My Bloody Valentine, Animal Collective, Black Eyes, Gang [...]
