Sometimes I don't really know what to type up here. I don't really give background on any of the songs or artists, but thats because I kind of find that boring. Maybe that makes me bad at this. I wish I knew how many bowls of Cap'n Crunch I ate during break. I am pretty sure the number would shock people. Interesting Fact: all of the songs below were recorded in July.* The Unicorns - I Was Born (A Unicorn) Bedroom Eyes - Hand-in-Hand [...]

Today is slushy and grey and cold, and twenty degrees or so. In four days I will be on Kauai and I just keep telling myself that when the wind smacks me in the face and takes my breath away (and not in a Top Gun soundtrack kind of way). I am so very tired of having cold hands all the time . Here are two links worth a click today: --We love Nick Hornby and the way he writes about music, this is a documented fact. Check his list of favorite songs from 2007 . [...]

AM Syndicate / Liberation ( Novastar ) Maybe it's because I've recently gotten a copy of The Comforts Of Madness from eMusic but this, the second album from AM Syndicate, really reminds me of the Pale Saints. Like that English outfit, the Austin-based trio produce a brand of distractedly anthemic dreampop that's neither overly guitar-heavy or noisy, nor especially hazy or ambient. Instead, their songs are crystalline-sounding but with their lattices slightly skewed - not so much as to compromise [...]

Murder Mystery is a indie pop rock band from New York. I actually remember visiting Murder Mystery's site a few months ago and enjoyed a few tracks. For whatever reason I didn't feel inclined to post about them like I feel I should today. This time around I was able to hear "Are You Ready For The Heartache Cause Here It Comes" and it has left me pretty impressed. Called as a mix of influences such as the Magnetic Fields, Pavement, Television and Buddy Holly, I could only vouch about Buddy Holly and the Magnetic [...]

i'm not really sure what to make of john hoeffleur and his champaign based beauty shop, or at least what to think of these demos. i haven't heard either yard sale or yr money or yr life , but i hear both are grand. so, judging beauty shop just on these demos alone i would surmise that they need to get off their asses and make an actual record cause these demos are most excellent. he's got a laid back delivery thats mildly reminiscent of will johnson and seemingly as intelligent in the lyric dept as [...]

Man where did those holidays go, it was a short week for me this week but it still dragged on forever. Back to the work, work, work a day world for a while. Hey, but like broken hearts and too many empty whiskey bottles it inspires a lot of good tunes, here's a mere five. Have a great first weekend of 2008 everyone! 1 : Elvis Costello - Welcome To The Working Week [...]
Two very cool local shows that I wanted to make mention of to start the New Year. First and foremost, Thursday January 24th is going to be a night of music. Copperspine Records is hosting a showcase @ the Media Club. What does that mean? Well, at the very least you will get to see: Roger Dean Young web site || review || MP3 :: Red Willow Bow Portico [...]
As I sit here and listen to what will likely be participants in the last batch of 2007-released reviews, it occurs to me that perhaps it's time to give a bit more--the holidays are upon us after all. Enjoy these treats as EVP forgets it's not a mp3 blog once more for your benefit: Murder Mystery "Love Astronaut" "Honey Come Home" Zookeeper "Snow in Berlin" "Trumpets" [...]

Had The Strokes been drawn to the 50's pop of Buddy Holly rather than the 70s rock of Velvet Underground, they might have sounded a bit like Murder Mystery - Whether they'd have pulled it off with as much pinache is up for debate. The band's debut LP Are You Ready for the Heartache (due 1/29) offers a batch of earnest, fool good pop that'll please the hipsters, but remains refreshingly posture- and irony-free. A US is expected in early 2008, so bone up now and polish your dancing shoes at Christmas. [...]

In the midst of the Black Kids' over-hype meltdown, Idolator blasted the notion of "blogger-friendly hooks" as if such things don't exist. But, if you reflect on the recent rise and fall of bloggerly hyped bands over the last two years, a rather clear sound/style emerges - bands like Tapes n' Tapes and Voxtrot et al. (I realize these are rather old examples, but the most obvious that come to mind apart from the aforementioned Black Kids.) The sound is, more or less, white boy pop (to elaborate, pop primarily made by white boys and/or primarily enjoyed by [...]

While Boston really doesn't rule, some of this city's other bloggers do. Ryan's Smashing Life is presenting a show tonight at the Bulfinch Yacht Club (234 Friend Street). The venue is located just around the corner from North Station and the Garden. [Myspace] John Brazile [Myspace] Murder Mystery [Myspace] St. Christopher [mp3] Murder Mystery [...]

Show of the week on Monday - Incredible live music : Boston's own John Brazile who will play his brand of guitar rock and blues for a full crowd on Monday night. I have brought in the immensely talented Murder Mystery (just the hottest indie rock band in New York) to play songs of their brand new album. This tremendous group sounds like the Talking Heads, Frank Black and They Might Be Giants all [...]

Murder Mystery There comes a time in your life when you have to determine whether you are in or if you are only going to pretend that you are in. Everyone has a dream, it may be a secret passion or it may be a visible goal, but regardless it is a dream. The path to fulfill this dream is rough and many times filled with tough decisions and steep risks. As a young band just starting out there maybe be no greater decision than that of touring. The most effective way to build a following [...]

It's not every day you get to make your 1,000th post on the internet, so I thought I'd make my 1,000th post a little bit special. I'm not going to do a run down of my past or make any promises for what the future may hold here at Pop Tarts Suck Toasted ('cause honestly your guess is as good as mine), instead I'm just going to use this post to announce my 2nd Anniversary Show!!! Next Saturday, that's September 29th for those without calendars, I will be hosting a celebration of my two years as a blogger [...]

Remarkably fun and slightly addictive... Murder Mystery is every bit the product of our modern times - and that is a very good thing for listeners. Murder Mystery just released the enchanting "Are You Ready for the Heartache - Cause Here It Is" record which is awash with the sounds of influences both past and current. The tracks are proof positive that Frank Black, They Might Be Giants and the Talking Heads walk the Earth. From the New York Indie Scene: Murder Mystery [...]
