Guilty as charged, I should be rooting for my favorite Ottawa acts at the Big Money Shot . But I haven't been following this year's competition. I won't say the name of the station but the info about the competition is on here . After the show at Zaphod Beeblebrox , I was dragged by Kathy and Brennan to check out the Big Money Shot. I only managed to see The Murder Plans [...]

It was a perfectly nice weather on Day 9 of Ottawa Bluesfest 2011. Here again I decided to make this into two parts. This one seems to be focused on Ottawa acts. The acts I saw were: The Murder Plans Withering Pines Jesse Greene Al Wood & the Woodsmen [...]
Murder Plan are a bluesy rock band from Dublin who I've written about many times in the last number of years. The video for a new single 'Drinkin' With The Devil' went online recently and it's a very polished video. The song is an 'In Yer Face' rock tune with some nice guitar rifts! The single will be available in August. http://www.murderplan.com/

After being away last year and was left in the duster. The third annual Ottawa Rock Lottery came back in full force with the decidated help and hard working Samantha Everts . Also with help within the Ottawa community, one being apt613 , CHUO and many more. The event went to a worthy cause which was the Ottawa Food Bank . Alot of prizes were handed and surprisingly enough people were on hand to get them. Hosting the event was CBC Bandwidth 's [...]

![Top 50 Irish Acts - Part 4 [11 - 20]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/2445645_lg.jpg)
This week [Monday - Friday] I'm counting down my Top 50 artists in my humble opinion at this moment in time. The artists are to have released an album/ep or played a gig since Jan 2009 in order to qualify for the list. 11. Mark Dignam It seems strange writing about Mark's music again because it was something I did every few days when I started the blog. Inspired by Dylan, Cohen and Waits Mark writes the kind of songs which help [...]

It does seem in Ireland that this year's Halloween is being celebrated like never before and I'm loving it. Here's an Irish Halloween mixtape! Some of the tunes are technically not written about Halloween but are included for atmospheric qualities. 1. And So I Watch You From Afar - Set Guitars To Kill 2. Ham Sandwich - Running Up That Hill [Live] 3. Pearse McGloughlin [...]

For the last night despite my desire to see bands like Funeral Suits, Super Extra Bonus Party and Ham Sandwich I decided to stay in The Button Factory for the last night of HWCHs. Pearse McGloughlan Pearse was accompanied by Sean Lynch on Mandolin and played a great set of songs from his debut album 'Busy Whisper'. It was a small but appreciative audience for Pearse's music. Ultan Conlon Ultan and his band of excellent musicians played a brilliant set from [...]
The best thing about day one of the Hard Working Class Heroes festival was that so many people were talking about Irish music. All the bands I seen were playing for their lives last night. Great night. NoLady Aine O'Doherty formally known as the act 'Onya' from Donegal has recruited a fine band and are now 'NoLady'. They make cheeky alternative pop music which can easily be compared to The Sultans of Ping. City of Angels http://www.myspace.com/cityofa ngelsdub [...]
Apart from the 100 odd bands doing the various HWCHs gigs over the weekend there are also some tasty gigs in the city .... Murder Plan - Le Cirk [midnight on Friday night] I love this band's sound .... pop into Le Cirk for some great music from a band I rate so highly! http://www.myspace.com/murder. plan Over the road in Peadar Kearney's on Friday you will find Funzo [...]

I Am Not Lefthanded played to a decent sized crowd on Tuesday 5th May upstairs in Whelans. The gig was free in with a 'Pay What You Like' system in place where you paid the amount you thought was fair. The support for the gig was Murder Plan. They were amazing. Fronted by Stephanie with a powerful voice and a great image, the band create a fusion of sound which is fresh and exciting. Murder Plan bring together Jacques Brel style jazz, with raggae rhythm, indie rock [...]
Fancy a good gig to go to celebrate United's passage into the Champions League final? Or maybe you will want to drown your sorrows! Either way you got nothing to lose tonight because it's free in to see Murder Plan and I Am Not Lefthanded but you pay as you leave! Actually you can't leave until you pay..... massive big bouncers have been hired! Naaaa if you cant spare too much change the band honestly don't mind at all! Murder Plan - Soul Dance I Am Not Lefthanded - Endline

A list of gigs that with the greatest intention I shall be at over the next few months! Monday night Upstairs in Whelans is the album launch for Garret Baker's home produced debut album. I'm really looking forward to this because from the little I have heard of Garret's music I think it will be a night of great music. http://www.myspace.com/garretb aker [...]

I'll try to bring some alternative news to the Irish music blogsphere now! A Murder Plan with humour! " Murder Plan are a vaudeville alternative blues band who wink a hint of chaotic mania. With songs & styles encompassing rock, tangos, Balkan gypsy sounds, blues & jazz, they mix & match motifs like a drunken arsonist in a Parisian police line-up. The band is made up of Stephanie O' Keeffe (vocals), Dara Melinn (guitar), Paddy Lynch (drums), Donal Melinn (bass) and Cathal Melinn (piano). None of the Melinns are related to each [...]
