If you've ever seen Murs live, then you're well aware how key a role his signature dreads play in his performance. The flailing locks always served to amplify his flying kicks and added extreme emphasis to his headnods to the beat. And now after 10+ years, they are no more after a recent visit to Frank's Chop Shop in which the rapper had his hair sheared. So next time you see Murs on stage, tell him how nice his Lionel from The Jeffersons 'fro looks. Seriously, change is always good and if he [...]

Back in 2002, Murs was really, really good. He's just separate from his band Living Legends, and he dropped an EP built around blues singles that's become an underground cult classic: Varsity Blues. Right after that, he dropped his collab with 9th Wonder (producer of Little Brother), "Murs 3:16: The 9th Edition," one of the greatest underground rap albums ever. Then, he got a major label deal and immediately fell off. Earlier year, though, he returned with an album with Terrence Martin that was full of deft lyrics, hot hooks, and . . . Humor! Now, [...]

Murs used to be on a major label. He dropped 3:16 with 9th Wonder. It was tremendous. Then people started caring about hooks more than lyrics. Then he got dropped. Now he's got his own label. He's joined forces with Terrace Martin to make an album with 1980s/90s style "disco beats" and hilarious lyrics and even more hilarious delivery. Lovin' this. Major. Like it way, way, way more than these guys' previous collabo-Murs for President. Buy it here . Seriously. It's amazing. Check out a song and the vid for Fresh Kicks. [...]

Three of L.A.'s finest hook up on this remix to K. Lamar's "She Needs Me" track from last year. Ill. Kendrick Lamar - She Needs Me (Remix) (Feat. Dom Kennedy & Murs) Kendrick Lamar: ( Twitter ) ( Myspace ) Rating: 8.1
I love songs that have sounds that can't be put into one category. Some of you readers notice I love music that can't be defined by one genre. It just seems to sound real fresh to me when I hear music that mixes genres. First let's start off with

New music video for the Aesop Rock-produced title track from Murs' latest Varsity Blues 2 EP.
The Living Legends emcee drops his second project in two months, and a follow-up to his fan favorite 2002 EP. Los Angeles, California emcee Murs promised to release nearly a dozen albums in 2010. While the Living Legends member did not fulfill that promise, he's actively releasing several projects thus far in 2011. Last week (April 5), Murs dropped an EP sequel to his 2002 EP, Varsity Blues. The six track Varsity Blues 2 was revealed to contain production by former Def Jux label-mate Aesop Rock, as well as Terrace Martin and Sik Wid [...]
This MURS track is especially interesting to me because it mimics how I feel about tracks with the same sort of content that "Varsity Bludes' has. Check for the hook to see what I mean, so I don't have to ruin the track for anyone. Read More about Hip Hop & Street Art at Flawless Hustle.
New music from LA's very own Murs right here, produced by frequent collaborator Aesop Rock, who also produced the latest Felt album that Murs did with Slug. This sees the versatile MC on an angsty, introspective tip, trying to live up to his claim in the hook that "they say I'm only good when the session is depressing"... This is the title track from his brand new EP, which dropped last week.
New track off Murs' 'Varsity Blues 22 EP , with Aesop Rock on the boards. The sequel to his 2002 'Varsity Blues' EP, the new release features production from Aesop Rock, Terrace Martin, Issue, Foudnation, Karl Berringer and Droop-E.

We just got Atmosphere 's new video, so it makes sense to follow with his buddy from Felt , Los Angeles native Murs . If nothing else, I like to see new Murs visuals to see the progression of his hair. It's one of the most interesting progressions in music. His dreads got dreads. The video for this Aesop Rock -produced track is cool, but don't expect anything near as cute as " Shes's Enough ". Buy Murs' new album Varsity Blues 2 here . Related: Murs - "Varsity Blues" [...]

Living Legends emcee and one half of the group Felt (Along with Slug of Atmosphere), Murs released the long awaited sequel to his 2002 EP Varsity Blues at last weekend's Paid Dues Festival. The title track, " Varsity Blues " produced by Aesop Rock, was previously released the beginning of this year to hype up the album's release. Unfortunately, the album has only released on CD at the Paid Dues venue and we have no word on when a digital release or non tour physical release will be set. But the good news, you can check out another [...]
