Today it's December 1st and the first window of my Christmas Calendar. An Christmas Calendar or Advent calendar is a special calendar which is used to count or celebrate the days of Advent in anticipation of Christmas. Today, most advent calendars are made for children. In Europe you can find the cardboard ones in stores and usually see a them as a television show for children, starting on the first of December, and ending on Christmas Eve. Sofia Talvik's Advent Calendar however, is not [...]
The Music Lovers - "Saturday" The Music Lovers - "Masculine Feminine" San Francisco's The Music Lovers are calling it a day this week, with a final, early evening concert at the Make-Out Room this Friday night (7:30pm, $7). The band released three very well-regarded full lengths of cosmopolitan pop on Le Grand Magistery , but according to their MySpace blog, they're now "scattering to the four corners of the Earth." The Minks open Friday's farewell show. [...]

Well, I am still playing catch-up to the first half of 2009. I'm pretty sure most of you have heard the releases below but I have just experienced them. And, I think they are all great. If you haven't heard them I strongly suggest you pick up a copy of these albums. They are truly worth it. So, a few words about them: Pomegranates Everybody, Come Outside is the Cincinnati's band follow up to last years debut Everything Is Alive . "They've held fast to youthful ingenuousness, but have totally [...]

The Music Lovers - Bobbie Gentry Indiepop från San Francisco som påminner en del del om vår käre Moz, till och med låter som honom. Lite åtminstone. Men det är bra i alla fall. Låten finner ni på albumet Masculine/Feminine .
San Fransisco's The Music Lovers make tunes heavily influenced by the works of Serge Gainsbourg, Godard, and 60s pop. It is no surprise that the video for "Saturday," off of their killer new album Masculine Feminine would weigh in on those influences as well. The video is loaded with hot cars, sexy ladies lounging by the pool, and more split screens than five Woodstocks . Check it out!

Tonight's post is coming from the Founders Residence on the York University campus. I've been in Toronto less than 24 hours and I've already found a killer leather jacket on Queen street and seen George Stroumboulopoulos in person. With that, I have successfully completed my weekend in Toronto to-do list. The Music Lovers comes to us from the Vancouver indie-rock band Destroyer , fronted by singer/songwriter Dan Bejar . Formed in 1995, Destroyer has released 8 studio albums including the 2005 EP Notorious Lightning & Other Works , which contains this evening's number. [...]
Another not-so-notable release week. I know it's not that exciting when the two releases I'm looking forward to most are from a classical composer ( Johann Johannsson ) and a split EP with two artists I don't own anything by ( Thursday / Envy ). My guess is people don't want to drop an album on an election day. Can't blame them. It probably explains the huge release weeks we've had through the fall up until now, too. I'll also be checking out Black Moth Super Rainbow , Travis , [...]

Sul fronte italiano arrivano il nuovo cd dei Negrita e l'album raccolta più inediti di Biagio [...]

The Make Out Room will be holding an awesome showcase of great sounds this Friday, October 17th. The Music Lovers ( Feature Podcast ) will be headlining the show to wail the shimmering sound of true lounge, class and romance with the smooth voice of Ted Edwards. The band's third full length Masculine Feminine comes out in November. Along for the ride are Hot Pink Feathers , who are bringing their award winning burlesque samba for a show not to be missed. [...]
This one's a smidge on the twee side, but might be just the thing to get your juices flowing this Veteran's Day. There's some songs about drugs, some songs about celebrities, at least one song (track 16) by a band that I can't find any information about whatsoever, and, at about the halfway mark, a former president talking. Try not to let your client get distracted at that particular moment. (more...)
