Just as the NFL Draft, with all the pomp and circumstance that surround it, is considered by some to be America's fourth major professional sport, the first few months of every year find the coming Festival Season's numerous events unveiled in quick succession, a noteworthy and exciting music-centric stretch in its own right. Rumors abound, travel plans are made, and sometimes vitriolic meditations on the Current And Future State Of Music™ are hard to avoid. But sardined among reliably controversial announcements from Hangout Music Festival , Jazz Fest, Sasquatch, Bonnaroo and Coachella is the one press release that is [...]

Mustard Plug has announced a 20th anniversary tour with Flatfoot 56 .

I had the good fortune to see the ska-punk band Mustard Plug play in Toledo, OH recently, at Frankie's Inner City. They're a Grand Rapids, MI-based band, so it was odd for me - a Michigan resident - to see them out of state. One of the people I went with has seen them six times in the past, once only 30 minutes away from our podunk little town, so it felt a little foolish to drive 3 hours out of state for a show. Still, I'm a big ska fan, so it was worth it. It was also interesting [...]

Mustard Plug and Flatfoot 56 will be touring together in November, with dates primarily on the east coast. Click below for the details. Mustard Plug last released In Black and White in 2007 via Hopeless Records ; Flatfoot 56 continue to support 2010's Black Thorn .
I'll be honest, these days I don't really listen to as much ska as I used to with a few exceptions. Perhaps it's the lack of newer ska bands that don't completely suck, or perhaps it's because all my favorite ska bands rarely tour (*cough* Mustard Plug *cough*) or just release albums I don't dig anymore (River City Rebels). However, there are a few gems in my ska collection that I will

Ska legends Mustard Plug have released a brand new track called "Aye Aye Aye". I'm not sure if it's coming off of any new release or anything like that, but here at Housewives, I'm pretty stoked to hear any new material (although I've heard them play this one live before).Check it out.MP3:Mustard Plug - Aye Aye AyeWe want the Mustard, we want the Mustard:Mustard Plug - In Black and

On Friday night, I headed out to Philly's Starlight Ballroom in order to catch the Ska Is Dead Tour (a tour that I have caught practically every year it came around since their first one). After getting rained on in line, I got in free because some nice dude had an extra ticket and just gave it to me, makes up for the $20 I lost at that venue! Most people there seemed to be there for locals Last

No, it's not some veiled attempt to get you to join my cult. Honestly, this weekend presents what might be best termed a frustratingly large number of good shows. At some point, you're going to have t... Continue reading "Are You Ready To Choose This Weekend?" >
Finally... It's finally warm enough to hit up the beach here on the east coast (fuck you!). I actually went on Sunday, where apparently the rest of NJ, NY and Philly also decided to go. And what better way to celebrate (besides going to the beach) than by posting a mix? Oh, and if you're chilling on the beach of NJ like I am, watch out for the dirty syringes under the boardwalk.MP3:Bouncing
Dutch Bank ING is requesting that 1,200 of its employees return their bonuses from last year. Considering that the Dutch government gave them a multi-billion euro bailout, that seems like a good idea. I hope all the AIG- type companies out there do the same thing. We can't give people this kind of money for nothing ever again. For the life of me, I can't believe they ever thought that they were wise, and they'd never compromise. Now they're guilt-stricken, sobbin' with their heads on the floor. On that note, remember this song? Right, here's [...]

Wow, I don't know what's been going on lately, but I've been suffering from insomnia like crazy. I think it has to do with the cold weather, getting darker earlier, and the fact that I haven't been outside to exercise since it's cold and dark. Whiskey would probably help me pass out reaaaal quick, too bad I don't drink. So I guess that leaves me with one tried and true Housewives cure: make
(Seriously winter... I don't care how pretty you make for photography, I hope you die.) Wow, I really hate winter... like... REALLY hate. I'm talking about finding that no good vermin named winter, and stabbing that mofo right in the throat. So let's all boycott winter, and listen to some summer music! What's your ultimate summer mix? Lets hear it people! MP3: Mustard Plug - Summertime Rise
Freaking stoked out of my mind could not even begin to describe how hyped I was to catch the biggest ska fest on this side of the hood. Yesterday I trekked the two hour drive out to the Starland Ballroom in New Jersey. After getting horribly lost (god I hate google maps sometimes), I finally arrived a tad late missing most of the local bands. Hub City Stompers: When I first heard of the
