Given the volume of music available for consideration on One Track Mind, we invariably have to pass on a lot of tasty morsels. [tweetmeme] In a desire to share even more great, free music with you, the Sunday Sampler offers a handful of tracks without the usual critical and biographical write-up. I was out sick a couple days this week, so this installment features two more tracks than the usual four: AM "Self-Preservation" from Future Sons & Daughters (released on [...]

King of Prussia - The idea of combining pop and country western music may make some cringe, and rightfully so; we've all heard plenty of bad examples of the marriage of those two genres. But indie rock band King of Prussia offers a much more appealing side of just that blend. With laid-back pop hooks and a decidedly country presentation (banjos, slide guitars, etc.), the collective has created a remarkably beautiful three-song EP called The Time of Great Forgetting that I simply can't stay away from for long. From the lovely waltz "Waitin' [...]

You may have seen this Carl Sagan video floating around which is a remix done by Colorpulse that Mux Mool shared with me awhile ago that I loved. Recently, Mux got parts and remixed the song with great results, below is his remix of the remix for the ISO50 blog, feel free to share it. Brooklyn DJ Mux Mool has just released a new EP Viking Funeral, his first output via Ghostly International. Oh and it's free. It's an amalgam of beats, tracks, edits, and live cuts... [go to the website to read the rest of the article, download mp3s and more]

Minimal Mondays More minimal for this Monday eve with a driving house number from Kevin Griffiths working with Amsterdam's Julian Chaptal . Released on Tsuba records alongside other VR favorites like Zoo Brazil, Danton Eeprom and Motorcitysoul its no surprise that we get down to this. DL : Kevin Griffiths - Oh Yeah (Julien Chaptal mix) Next up is a little Move D to get things going a bit faster and funkier. His work here with DJ Late is perfect [...]

Thom Yorke remix of Doom ? sounds great right? well it is, I do love Doom over some big strings and dusty kicks or movie and TV soundtracks but this remix is a nice get away with a fitting haunted feel. I haven't heard anything as exact as Dilla Donuts than this Jay Electronica cut but I also don't listen to much hip hop besides dipping back in more J Dilla or Stones Throw signings. A really hype track, i'm not putting it down at all, [...]

Andre 3000 once posed the question, 'what's cooler than being cool?' We're inclined to disagree with his doppelgang of backing singers and believe that it's Ghostly International , a label that is not only too cool for school but too cool for college, university and night classes as well. If any of those finger snappin', black polo neck wearing, jazz cigarettte smoking dudes hanging out in Paris cafes back in the day could see into the future, Ghostly Int would be their vision. They've just unleashed a free [...]

Today Mux Mool's Viking Funeral drops as a free download for everyone, the EP is a collection of live edits, one has a MC for the first time and one song even samples the Hobbit cartoon with Led Zeppelin drums, enjoy. Culled from Mux Mool’s EPs, mixtapes, and beat vaults, the Viking Funeral EP collects five choice Mux cuts into one concentrated blast of music, an introduction to Brian Lindgren’s dazzling take on homespun electro hip-hop and a preamble to his upcoming full-length opus, Skulltaste. Viking Funeral contains everything [...]
Mux Mool. It’s a mash-up of a name, described more in depth on the artist’s MySpace page – but an apropos one, mixing the modern with the timeless to forge something new. I personally thought it was an anagram of sorts, so I put it into the Internet Anagram Server, but only came up with [...]

Former Minneapolis resident, now Brooklyn's Mux Mool offers the first look into his upcoming SKULLTASTE , March 23rd on Ghostly International . The instrumental hip-hop/electronic styling of producer Mux Mool are somewhere between Flying Lotus and the RZA. cheers to RCRD LBL . Mux Mool - "Lady Linda" -mp3

Fresco como una lechuga. Primero un pie y luego el otro. Mux Mool - Lady Linda

Since the 20JFG Darkstar 2009 mix I've had this on heavy rotation. Lazily, evidently, as now we're three weeks into 2010, and then guardian music beats me and names Mux Mool new band/artist of the day. Serves me right for languishing in food, booze, and snow up north for so long. The remix of Rhythm is a Dancer is woozy and chewy. I want him to rework some other dancefloor cheese too, to turn it into some hazy basement groove, all sloppy with dripping edges; sounds to roll your hips to with heavy lids closed. [...]
We officially made it. January 7th. One 3rd rock revolution around the sun. It's our first birthday. Who knows? Maybe you remember this little debut. Coincidentally around this time of year you see a lot of lists. Top ten ones to be exact. Or maybe top 50. And it's always about the year in review. Speaking of which, you know what else you always see? Drinking games. What the fuck. You know what you never see? Doing drug games. So check this out. For our birthday, I'm not going to give you some silly top ten list, [...]

Mux Mool just dropped his new single this week called Lady Linda which features 2 tracks from his upcoming LP Skulltaste on Ghostly International coming to us in March 2010. If you like what he did for Adult Swim or his Drum EP then this track has a mixture of that with hints of fantasy video game music specifically Zelda for the Nintendo 64 with a hip hop wobble. With Lusine's recent remix of Tycho's Coastal Brake [...]

***So I have my top lists compiled, I just haven't been able to fully write it out yet. And since I will be in New York for New Year's, my top lists will not be out until I get back. Super sorry! Working with a smaller affiliate, Moodgadget Records, Ghostly recently introduced to the world 38 tracks from 33 new electronic artists on two discs. (Qualifier: Some artists are newer than others, and one, Daniel Johnson, not so new at all, but new perhaps to many a Ghostly consumer). More than introducing new talent, The Nocturnal Suite reminds music aficionados once again that the electronic genre, especially in the hands of Sam Valenti IV and company, is neither narrow nor nostalgic. The compilation also demonstrates that these gatekeepers and soapboxers of the genre don't discriminate on the basis of the [...]
Ghostly International is a label that prides itself on the juxtaposition of music and art branding. Created by Sam Valenti IV when he was 19 yrs old, the label was realized through Valenti's experience as a DJ, interest in live performances, and art history background. With the incorporation of art, and expression, the label encouraged exploration. In the beginning, Tadd Mullinix, best known as Dabrye, comprised 50% of the label's roster under several different alias. The freedom of the label enabled Tadd Mullinix to genre-bend under different titles similarly to artists like Prefuse 73 (aka Piano Overlord, Scott Heron, The [...]

Nick Noeding Jr. is busy. Besides his Shoegaze/Down-tempo/Acousmatic /Tape music solo work as Pollination , he is also currently involved in the following projects Day Of The Woman (w/ Yppah and Stenographer ), Collider (a Yppah collab), 10k Cities (a Zoomzip collab), and Slow (a Stenographer collab). And then there is also his wildlife analysis photography. Oh, and he also plays in Yppah's live band. So we were pretty excited to received a mixtape from Nick the [...]
