Two Gallants at the Google Live Lot. 03/16/12 I present to you some photos of just a few of the Bay Area bands that played SXSW this year. I'm only one man, so I called on a couple friends to contribute photos as well. But even still, there was only so wide a net we could cast. For the first time in years, for instance, I somehow managed to not catch a single Thee Oh Sees concert — but have no fear, a Spin photographer captured this amazing moment (seriously, [...]

SXSW has it all in March, namely tons of music from artists you'll be hearing about more in the coming months. In a small series preluding the music session that goes from March 13-18, we'll be focusing in on some of the collective efforts of labels and PR companies collecting in Austin. We wish we could cover every group that is playing down there, but as Bandcamp states, there are over 400 artists going to be there. If you have a label or PR company, big or small, that you want featured, email us with your lineup card. [...]

In the event you were busy Christmas shopping and missed out, Oakland's Mwahaha dropped their self-titled debut back in December to a fair amount of acclaim. In the interest of getting your week off on the right foot, MOKB is pleased to premiere the video for Love , a spacey harmonic little ditty that calls to mind both Silver Apples and Lodger -era Bowie, and which features a guest turn from Merril Garbus of tUnE-yArDs on backing vocals. And if you likes what you hears, [...]

Without question, the release that most 'indie' and alternative rock fans are talking about this week is the new album from The Black Keys. I've been sitting on this band with the strange name Mwahaha for a little while unsure of whether or not I was really into their music. Well after a few days I've decided that, though the band is extremely strange, I'm sort of into their sound. It's a synth heavy sound with a mellowed out yet powerful vocal delivery. The song below "Sleep Deep" is on the band's debut self-titled LP due out December 6th. Those finding the tune interesting should check out two more free tracks streaming on the group's bandcamp page . Download: [...]

Oakland, CA's Mwahaha will be self-releasing their first full length album on December 6th. On the self-titled album, Mwahaha use an array of analog synths and drum machines, as well as live drums creating a wall of sound that is both "out there" and poppy. Reportedly, Odd Nosdam is working on a boom-bap remix for the band. We will report back when we know more about that. There has been a pretty steady stream of tracks from the LP hitting the internets over the past few months (including [...]
