Image From Here Well, if there is one vice I have it would have to be smoking. I am a one pack a day kind of guy. I started smoking seriously late in life. Approximately 9 years ago, I started when I was going through my divorce. Looking back, I really don't know why I started the nasty habit. But I did. And now I am addicted to nicotine and can't go a day without it. I went for two months without smoking last year when I was in the hospital. But, the day I [...]

Onethirtybpm writer Austin Nauert will be at the My Bloody Valentine show tonight at the WaMu Theater out in Seattle, Washington. During the show he'll be posting updates via his Twitter profile . This should be interesting. $10 says they end with "You Made Me Realise". A review of the show will shortly follow.
• Rep for DMX denies that the troubled MC will take up residence in Celebrity Rehab [ AllHipHop ] • Ida Maria now waking early-rising MTV watchers from their slumber [ Video Static ; HT me remembering to tune into AMTV this morning] • Creation Records' Alan McGee still really mad about the whole "signing My Bloody Valentine " thing [ MySpace ] • Rihanna asks LAPD to return $1.4 million worth of jewelry that was seized as evidence the night of Chris Brown 's arrest [...]

Two things really come to mind when I think about this show. First, it was pretty awesome and they were really good. Second, holy dear god it was loud. I would say that before this the regularly loudest band I have seen is Dinosaur Jr., but this was a different kind of loud. Where Dinosaur is more in the trebles and higher pitched solos with a fair amount of bass MBV was bass, treble and everything in between, and a lot of it. These guys kind of reappeared on [...]
Sunday at Coachella got off to a little bit of a slow start. We headed in to Palm Springs to the first place that popped up when I searched for breakfast on Yelp, Cheeky’s . It was a bit pretentious but ended up being good. If somebody opened up one of those in Silver Lake they could print money. The bacon flight’s a good idea. We spotted Keenen Ivory Wayans for the second time of the weekend. After eating, we headed to Rancho Mirage to meet some friends who were watching the Lakers game [...]

Believe it or not, there are still some people out there that don't recognize Radiohead as the greatest band in the world. I know. Breathe deeply. This is why we have a website. We're here to help. "Radiohead and Philosophy" is a new book explores Radiohead's cultural and philosophical relevence in today's world. Watch this video which references everyone from Karl Marx to Albert Camus. Sounds fascinating! TDOA favorites The Bronx, release a video for the best song they've [...]

A while back I listed what I felt were the top ten album closers of the '90's so I think it's only appropriate that I finally give that list its obvious brother - the top ten album openers. After listening to these tunes, I think it's a pretty solid list but I'm sure you guys will wanna chime in with your faves so please feel free to list 'em in the comments section! 10. Soundgarden - "Rusty Cage" ; At this point I may actually prefer the Johnny Cash cover of [...]

The cavernous Bristol Academy has tonight off to recover from whichever fading reformed hair metal troupe graced its soulless stage the night before. Inside, the stairs wind upwards as if climbing towards the serial killer in the loft. A reformed Jack Peñate (who must have worn out his copy of the Foals record to produce ‘Tonight’s Today’) is having a row with a girl(friend?) over one way traffic. The XX buzz around lurking in the darkest, dirtiest crevices but the Bristol hordes, or lack of, clearly missed The Big Pink on the radar. Featured in BBC’s new sound poll of [...]

We flopped happily far up front at mainstage as lengthening shadows set the mood for My Bloody Valentine. Management was handing out earplugs at the gate and small wonder, since toward the end of “You Made Me Realise,” guitarists Kevin Shields and Bilinda Butcher (the latter impassive as a Xanax-bombed soccer mom) loosed a gorgeous fifteen-minute-plus feedback annihilation that was easily the loudest thing I’ve ever heard in decades of doting on amplified music. It was less a solo than a hideous (and hideously effective) evocation of nightmare; a compressed and aestheticized variation on the opening bombardment at the Somme, [...]
One of the interview topics that didn't make it to the print version of this week's My Bloody Valentine feature was the volume of the band's legendarily loud live shows. Kevin Shields has suffered fro... Continue reading "My Bloody Valentine Will Hand Out Free Earplugs Tonight. Use Them." >
Watching X and My Bloody Valentine put into perspective all these kids making noisy pop music by recalling the rich and fabled genealogy of this newfangled uprising and putting a sincere (albeit wrinkled) face on sounds that were once something controversial and that today's babies take for granted... it must be oddly pleasant to play a show you never would've been asked to play in your own heyday, knowing that tropes you helped invent are propelling smooth-skinned foals into stardom from what middle-aged critics are carelessly referring to as the "outside" or the "fringes" while you wonder where the hell [...]
Bonnaroo Bonnaroo has decided to jump into the "curating" game that All Tomorrow's Parties has made so popular. The are letting David Byrne pick the lineup for one stage on the evening of Friday June 12. He has chosen the following acts to play it: Santigold Dirty Projectors Ani Difranco St. Vincent Katzenjammer Most of those acts were already on the lineup, but Dirty Projectors is an addition, and a pretty badass [...]
I didn't think that I was going to be this excited for the show, but I'm pretty stoked. Part of it, is that my talented partner/photographer will be shooting the event. And it's a rare opportunity to see a band that I might never have the op to see again. A band that put out a record, that was a staple for me back in the day. MP3> My Bloody Valentine ‘I Only Said’ MP3> My Bloody Valentine ‘Blown A Wish’

If you are anywhere near the downtown area tonight and happen to hear a band playing, its probably just echoes from My Bloody Valentine's wall of noise bouncing off the Austin skyline. The band that effectively invented the shoegaze sound will be performing tonight at the Austin Music Hall , two days after blasting the whole Coachella Valley with their sonic guitar waves. Here's what Billboard said : "MBV's insanely loud layers of feedback were only enhanced by the open-air setting, with the vocals of guitarists Kevin Shields and Bilinda Butcher perfectly centered in the mix for [...]

Welcome to Six Degrees, a new Uncensored Interview feature inspired by none other than Mr. Kevin Bacon. You know the game -it's a small world and we're all somehow related. This theory applies to the music scene as well, no matter what you listen to, where you hang or who you know. We're just showing you the connections. This month, in honor of Earth Day on April 22, we're examining the ways we all impact the environment. Plenty of bands are going green by shopping at their local co-op (with that reusable grocery tote [...]

He might not sound it on stage, but Kevin Shields is a happy man as of late. Why wouldn't he be? After all, his band, My Bloody Valentine for the ill informed, is one of the hottest (and most requested) acts on the market today. And rather than simply hole himself away again, Shields wants to keep this good fortune coming but with some "radical changes" in mind, at least according to his recent comments to the Daily Observer : "After the end of August, we'll have a radical [...]
