Tweet This song is a burner, clocking in at over 8 minutes long, so you should scroll down and hit play first before you read any further (presuming you wanted to read anything anyway...it's not terribly insightful just so you know). The Horrors' latest album "Skying" has been extremely well received, including by ourselves, with the praise being extremely well-deserved. From The Horrors ' first album to this, their third, they've gone through a huge transformation not only stylistically but sonically [...]

Don't know why I've waited so long to blog about SF's dream poppin duo, The Bilinda Butchers , their sound is so perfect for this time of year. Their most recent release, Regret, Love, Guilt, Dreams ; is filled with My Blood Valentine sounding material and encompasses a consistent nostalgic appeal that makes these melodies sound ever so new and pristine. Can't get enough of the second track, 'tulips', its my favorite out the bunch. Perfect stuff to have playing on these sunny days and nights, inside and out. Download at a 'name your [...]

Story and photos by Matt Draper In 1983, after his fanzine and club night had culminated, a Scot named Alan McGee formed an imprint he called Creation to release records from like-minded friends. "73 in 833, a single from art-rock band The Legend! became the label's first release after McGee secured a £1,000 loan. Though I can bet you've probably never heard of this particular group (they sound like the Normal meets Gang of Four), the label's next releases proved massive and beyond anything its founder could have imagined. On a shoestring [...]
Ceremony, Burning Hearts, and Memory Tapes are three different artists with very different sounds. Their influences certainly intersect though, allowing the material to sound like creative odes rather than blend replications of genres and movements that are now in the past. They encompass a wide range of styles - from glam-inspired post-punk to flamboyant dance-pop - and remain interesting in the process.
Tweet You haven't heard from me about the band in Heaven for nigh-on nine months now, and you might not have even heard about them at all, so for those of you who fall int that category here's what you need to know. A duo from Florida, they use their craft to bundle up snappy and harmonious firecrackers that sound as though they're being let loose via burning amps. If that sounds like your bag then check out my intro piece [...]

Tweet Buy the album from Amazon - Vinyl / MP3 / CD There are a lot of people who still hate The Horrors for having the audacity to be lauded by the British music press before releasing a single note of music. When their first album dropped, it was subject to a wave of negativity that meant it never really had a chance. It didn't help that [...]

This may be weird, but I always think of concerts as a kind of consummation - like finally getting the chance to be alone with that special squeeze you've been sweatin' for a while. The relationship between you, a band, and a song are finally at the most intimate, whether you're in the corner of a bar or on the muddy fields of Glastonbury. And for all the time you've spent peeling away the layers of a track, analyzing every note, every word, every minute detail about down to the the last wavelength, in concert the pressure is now on [...]

The Sky Drops - Explain It To Me I could attempt to write this blurb without mentioning My Bloody Valentine but it's pretty much impossible, such are the comparisons of reverb flooded and drench sound that appears on The Sky Drops latest EP Making Mountains. You can rest assured it's not just the ethereal female vocals and noise that accounts for their sound. Beneath the British sound of shoegaze is the warmth of a desert drive, an alt-American pop aesthetic; a touch of sub-pop, a bit of [...]

1. My Bloody Valentine. Only Shalow El grupo más obvio, simplemente [...]

I'm going to try and keep these documentary style installments coming. Part II is already done. Here's Part 1 of the what will be a Über trailer from a truly american shoegaze treasure as Jack puts it - The Sleepover Disaster . Long story short this is part of larger "non-musical" documentary project I work on called create or else about inspiration or at least that is how this started - I ended up with a ton of footage. So these are the musical fruits of which I intend to share all the great moments [...]

>> It's an all-too-familiar story: good band releases three records, drops off the map, and the word is the band members are doing "adult" "stuff" like earning a living, starting a family, finishing the advanced degree, et cetera. What happens much less frequently than we'd like has fortunately happened to dream-pop lifers Fonda : after an eight-year hiatus, the LA-based act has returned to making music. Fonda first formed almost two decades ago when core members David Klotz and Emily Cook (now married with children) met in Hollywood. We didn't know Fonda's work the first time around, [...]
Ohio indie rockers Lovedrug have recently released a slew of cover songs to preface their new album Best of I AM LOVEDRUG. The album will feature a wide range of covers of the likes of Third Eye Blind, Fleetwood Mac, Def Leppard and then some. Check out a few preview tracks. A band has to be either quite confident in their credibility or have an uncanny ability to laugh at themselves to take on a song by Darren Hayes, Savage Garden frontman. When it comes to a Savage Garden cover there's only one direction a band can take it: up, [...]
Athid favorites Memoryhouse drastically changing their My Bloody Valentine cover to accommodate their new live line up, which happens to feature Foxes in Fiction on bass.
For almost 25 years, John Andrew Fredrick and a revolving cast of characters have been issuing records as the Black Watch. The California-based indie-rock institution is back with 11th album Led Zeppelin Five (Powertool), and it's the first LP to feature the rock-solid lineup of Fredrick, guitarist Steven Schayer (ex-Chills), bassist Chris Rackford and drummer [...]

We're all familiar with the genre garage rock , the sub genre of rock n' roll that started becoming popular in the 602s when younger rock bands started jamming in their parent's garages with a lack of a better rehearsing space. Similarly the genre garage punk also came in place in the mid 802s and early 902s, except it was punk and grunge music that was being played. Today we are starting to see similar "low-budget" music projects arise and they are not coming from their parent's garages, artists such as Toro y Moi and [...]

I remember when I was just starting to shift musical tastes from the patchouli scented, drum circling hippie syndicate to the more hip and fuck offery sounds of "indie" (BZZZZZZZ) rock, I would poke around numerous websites trying to find out all that I could about bands like The White Stripes, Pavement, Neutral Milk Hotel, etc. Well, back in 1997, without the aid of iTunes and due to the fact that it took 3 minutes to pull up a 30 second sample from Amazon's page, I based a lot of what I bought on what had been posted in reviews or [...]
