Excellent album. I love My Brightest Diamond debut album, it's a beautiful, dark, yet intimate work. It unfolds slowly like a mini opera following a personal confession. Love, doubt, abandonement, death. The sound texture itself is intimate. A deep slowcore rock blurring the line between opera and rock, it has a lot of string and large cord phrases, painting dark mood and dread, often with vivid vocal. After reading through Sarah Wordens bio, it would be hard to imagine her doing anything that was not related to music. After all, her musical roots run very deep. I didn't expect to be blown away by this song. I expected some soft whispering innocent sounds from Shara Worden, best known as a member of Sufjan Stevens' Illinoisemakers. Ypsilanti, Michigan, usually has trouble measuring up to its neighbor to the north, Ann Arbor.
