MY DISCO played a couple of shows, as part of their Australia Asia tour, at The Toff in Town on the weekend. They were in fine form and it was a real treat to hear stuff from 'Little Joy' with a mix of old tracks and possibly one new track too. Someone might confirm that? So yeah it was quite an intense experience with the usual ear bleeding levels but with a twist of near darkness but for a few lazers and blistering strobe screaming through constant fog machines pumping right in our faces and my camera. I would almost [...]
Adam and Baxter of MIRACLES sent us these answers to our questions in this next installment of the q and also a series. q: What is the last song you (really) heard? a: Antimagic 's "Shake Shake Shake" has been in heavy rotation all year. I rediscovered De La Soul 's Stakes is High last week after not listening to it for a few years. It still rules. b: For me, it's a tie between Young Widows ' "Old [...]
Unfortunately some shows of the My Disco Australian tour have had to be cancelled Last week Liam was involved in a traffic accident and was rushed to hospital for surgery. My Disco will be doing their one and only tour for the year. That means we won't see the boys again until 2012, so get down and see them this April cause you'll be waiting a while to see them again. For those in Melbourne, My Disco will be at The Toff for two nights of fun so there is no excuse. They will also be celebrating the release of the double deluxe version of ' Little Joy '. Liam Andrews, Benjamin Andrews and Roberto Luongo may call themselves My Disco, but don't go breaking out your bellbottoms and cocaine just yet. Instead of making you want to do the hustle in a sweaty nightclub, this Australian trio will hypnotize you into an unconscious sway with its dark, pulsing rhythms—sometimes using just one note—and [...]

Here is the best of our November posts, a perfect mix tape to kick off the festive seasons and a nice reminder before we all get immersed in all those end-of-year top tens/twenties/fifties etc. And as always a couple of new ones too. Twenty five great tracks. Enjoy. Download Outer Minds - Until You're Dead mp3 Pristine nugget of 60s inspired garage rock, twangy rough-cut harmonies, a perfect hook and wall of sound noise. Our society is not a community, but merely a collection of isolated family units. Desperately insecure, fearing his woman will leave him if she is exposed to other men or to anything resembling life, the male seeks to isolate her from other men and from what little civilization there is, so he moves her out [...]

Like Iowa from our earlier post today , My Disco hail from Melbourne. Like Iowa , My Disco like to shred their sound into a dark, pummelling tribal noise. There is certainly no nod to the glitter balls, falsetto vocals or anything else we would associate with disco.... Their new album (their third) Little Joy will get a worldwide release early in 2011, and the tracks we've heard to date already make it much anticipated here at the MM residence. Try out the twisting, [...]

Ahhh Temporary Residence , that great Brooklyn institution that is home to noisemakers of fine distinction. As I wrote that line it suddenly dawned on me that I had lumped all the bands I knew from TR (EITS, the Books, Grails, Kenseth Thibideau and Eluvium) into a train of thought that was missing most of its carriages. Perhaps they had a sizable catalogue of innovative dubstep operators or a hidden seam of underground hip-hop mavericks. Off I trundled to the site and over half a dozen clicks later I realised my initial assumption was pretty sound. Not that I'd [...]

I received an email last week about the Melbourne, Australia band My Disco. They formed in 2003 and include members Liam Andrews, Rohan Rebeiro and Benjamin Andrews. To be honest, I don't know a lot about them other than what I received in the email, but according to the ever reliable Wikipedia, in the early days the group became known for their use of unconventional venues, performing on sidewalks, and in art galleries and warehouses. The group toured in Australia in 2003 but took a break in 2004 after Andrews was diagnosed with Hodgkin's disease. Once Andrews [...]
In the crazy ass world known as the music industry, the week immediately following CMJ is basically the most overwhelming five days of any blogger's life. That's because all the publicists who stepped away from the office to party work at CMJ are now back in said office, catching up on their work and consequently sending 1,732 emails. The goods new for you guys, of course, is that all these emails mean tons of new mp3s to include in this week's Friday mixtape. So please enjoy this haul of free music. We're going to go sleep. [...]

It came as a shock to no one when My Disco , the delightfully noisy but undeniably danceable Melbourne trio, followed their muse to the Windy City and holed up in a studio with billiard aficionado and noise Svengali, Steve Albini. Basically this was the musical equivalent of finding a fat kid a girlfriend who worked at a Dairy Queen, and the resulting record, the unironically-titled Paradise , was about as sweet a slice of minimalist tailshaking noise pie as you were likely to find in 2008. When [...]
