The SOTO inbox is always full of cool stuff that never gets to see the light of day on the actual site, and I’d like to change that. So, every Friday I’ll be posting the best album streams and videos that were sent my way during the week. Take a scroll and find something worth remembering. Ume . There is the general feeling around these parts that they just need to blow up; power trio rock with the remarkably charismatic powerhouse lady putting down the jams should be a lock. I love photographing this band. I think every music photographer in Austin loves photographing this band thanks to Lauren's hair. But they weren't my highlight. Modern Outsider is a friend of the program. They have several great acts on their roster and bedsides being really good people, they call Austin home. So naturally, they decided to host a pre-SxSW showcase as part [...]

ACL is over, and FFF Fest is on the horizon, but it's Austin, so there's always plenty of things going on, musically speaking. I've picked some of the lesser-known highlights for you to check out in the next few days. Surely you can find something to watch, but hold on tight because Monday's got a couple of great gigs too you should be a part of. Friday, 10.9: Aaron Espinoza of Earlimart @ Waterloo - 5 PM - FREE [...]

Date 10/19/12 Location Holy Mountain Doors 9pm Tickets $12 @ Frontgate I was always a huge fan of Jeff Klein during his solo career after his move down to Austin from New York many years ago. I admittedly lost touch with the singer/songwriter and haven't really kept up with his recent work as a musician. All that being [...]
For My Jerusalem, it's not merely about writing and performing songs, but imbuing them with atmosphere and taking the listener on a trip into a nocturnal setting where the most torrid and primitive emotions can flourish. My Jerusalem is one of those bands you must listen to in the darkest hours, their music depending on the dropping away of the sun for it to spread out and breathe. Like Morphine or Murder By Death, to listen to My Jerusalem in daylight hours is to get but a compressed representation of what they have to offer, getting the tune without [...]
Bow your head to My Jerusalem’s bluesy, swamp rock on ‘Preachers’. The End Records, 2012 7.1 / 10.0 Described as postmodern gothic soul, My Jerusalem’s sophomore album, Preachers, spreads its swamp gospel in a fun, bluesy swagger. Led by the baritone of Jeff Klein, evoking Nick Cave’s spirit, [...]

Preachers is the second full-length album from Austin's My Jerusalem , but the first album recorded as full band. The album was recorded in just under 3 weeks with Spoon drummer Jim Eno at his Public Hi-Fi studio. The sound is driven by what lead singer Jeff Klein characterizes as “Post-Modern Southern Gothic Soul" with smokey baritone vocals with dark guitars setting the tone for what Klein says is a "darker record," but "a beautiful, comforting darkness." Slated for release on October 9th through The End Records , [...]
Jeff Klein, frontman and main songwriter behind My Jerusalem, has shared some of his background before, but not for My First Show. My Jerusalem, whose new album, Preachers, is out next week, com... Continue reading "My Jerusalem's Jeff Klein On Getting Soy Bombed, The Replacements and X" >

I love a smoky voice, especially when you drape it over solemn tunes. The latest tune from local Austin act My Jerusalem has that exact perfect vocal I look for, even including a nice little pop raise in the vocal during the chorus. Otherwise, the track treads the water with a careful guitar line, some light flourishes of instrumental accompaniment and a thoughtful drum beat. It's great to see an Austin band crafting this sort of music, which definitely seems able to escape the confines of our local scene. You can hear this tune [...]
Describing his band as "Post Modern Southern Gothic Soul," Jeff Klein of My Jerusalem prepares his quintet for the release of Preachers . Pick up a Free MP3 of the cut "Mono" on the next page.
Filed under: News , Exclusive , New Music , New Releases Courtesy of My Jerusalem My Jerusalem hail from Austin, Texas though they happen to conjure influences from all over the South. The band's latest tune "Preachers" is a roadhouse rocker with flavors of New Orleans blues, toasted by lead singer Jeff Klein's baritone howl. "'Preachers' was the first song written after we decided to start making a new record. I [...]
"Post-Modern Southern Gothic Soul" at its best from Austin's My Jerusalem. My Jerusalem founder and singer Jeff Klein describes the Austin band's latest album -- Preachers releasing 9 October via the End Records -- as "a darker record. So much had changed since Gone For Good. We'd all kind of been through hell and back again in different ways, and this was the natural artistic result of all of that. But I think it's a beautiful, comforting darkness. It's real, but not selfish." The band has...
My Jerusalem have announced they will be releasing a new LP. Titled "Preachers," My Jerusalem will release the album on October 9th via The End Records. Additionally, My Jerusalem have announced fall tour dates. "Nobody ever paid money to see Harry Houdini escape being buried alive" says My Jerusalem founder and singer Jeff Klein. "They wanted the small chance of seeing him killed by the weight of the earth on top of him."

Back to the friendly confines, Mohawk's inside stage played host to the Mynabirds touring with locals Deep Time . Another local band My Jerusalem used the opening slot. It was a cool mix. The outside show with Murder By Death as headliner had a comfortable crowd, some of which stayed behind for the inside show which added to the crowd but it was never "crowded". The night felt like a showcase or label party. Calm, plenty of friendly faces, [...]
