A few years ago we was lucky enough to see My sad Captains play in our favourite London boozer and today we've been handed a stream of their album.

My Sad Captains are led by Ed Wallis. The singer wrote much of the band's forthcoming record, 'Fight Less Win More', in a borrowed house in San Francisco. Returning to England he, and the band, recorded the album in an old barn in Cornwall and it's now ready for a November release. The initial run of the album is a hand silk screen printed edition limited to 300 copies. It is a collaboration between artists Phil Goss, Nick Goss and Dan Davis. Here's a track from the record:

After revealing the first fruits of new album Fight Less, Win More back in May - London based quartet My Sad Captains make their eagerly awaited return on November 7 with a record of bold understated pop gems. Written in San Francisco, recorded in Cornwall and mixed by previous Elliot Smith and Stephen Malkmus collaborator Larry Crane, Fight Less, Win More is a quiet victory. A masterclass in restraint, of hushed vocals, heartbreaking one-liners and chugging motorik grooves. My Sad Captains operate within a world where a constant warmth seems to surrounds [...]

Hola! It's a big Wednesday this week as we bring you an OIW night like you've never seen before! In honour of the wonderful Superhumanoids being in the UK to support their "Urgency" EP (out on OIW Records ) we are throwing a B.I.G. party on the Thames for them before they jet off back to L.A. It all kicks off from 7:30pm on the Tamesis Dock in Vauxhall and any pirate or sailor-related dressing up is definitely approved of. Full details HERE . [...]
BEST FOOT FORWARD - LOOKING GLASS from Looking Glass on Vimeo . Looking Glass , the side-project from My Sad Captains ' Jim Wallis , have made a song from their upcoming "The First Real Target" EP available for free download on their bandcamp-page. Like his debut-album (also available from Bandcamp), this is mostly kept in an acoustic style. In my ears this is even better than the songs on his debut (which I liked a lot), - a more developed sound and a really good song. Can't wait for [...]

Pearly Gate Music Discovering that uber-special record label Bella Union are curating a stage at the bloated spectacle that is Hard Rock Calling - a two day festival primarily sponsored by the burger joint of the same name - is akin to finding a lost Klimt buried away between the frozen pizzas in ASDA. Okay, maybe I'm being a bit harsh - there is some credit to a line up that includes Elvis Costello, Crosby, Stills & Nash, Paul McCartney and Stevie Wonder (shame about the rest of the main stage line up. One [...]

Long overdue an appearance on TLOBF, My Sad Captains have been on our radar since February last year but we've never gotten round to featuring them. A quick catchup? Well, they released their debut album Here and Elsewhere back in June via Stolen Recordings (home to Bo Ningen, Let's Wrestle and Tap Tap amongst others), it dipped completely (and criminally) under the radar thus never receiving the attention or fanfare it truly deserved. Founding member Cathy went on to join Fanfarlo and become a pop star whilst the rest of 'Captains plodded along playing the odd show, and quite possibly [...]
When we interviewed My Sad Captains in 2009 , we swooned at their lloydcole-esque melodies and their dreamy pop soundscapes. Their new single and video for "You Talk All Night" continues in the tradition of great songwriting to produce another gem. The band was nice enough to share the video with us for our loyal TDOA followers. Enjoy! You Talk All Night from Stolen Recordings on Vimeo . Submit this [...]

Ah so cute and mildly surprising that they've sprung from Camden. Imagine they'd have been beaten up back when Britpop was at full throttle but then they could have just as easily hung out with Blur. This is the opening track from My Sad Captains debut and sounds like a cross between Luna and Apples In Stereo. Ultimately though it should easily assumes staple status on the most pristine indie pop jukebox known to geek. Warm melodies abound, we all clap in unison at the chorus and reach for the soft spectacle cloth when we fog up rendering even timid [...]

Obviously we love interviewing the big names in music (Will Sergeant, anyone?), but we're always going to be partial to that new indie band that tickles our ears. London's My Sad Captains have been making great music for a few years now and deserve to be included in that Tuesday night DJ set that makes all the kids swoon. Ed Wallis has one of the best voices we've heard in years. Equal parts Lloyd Cole and warm chocolate syrup combine to smother you with a feeling that is familiar and delicious. The rest of the group (Nick Goss [...]

I know. I can't help it. I've tried to stay away, to acknowledge the futility of trying, but it just doesn't suit me. My ears are too insatiable, my tongue too soaked with words to just ignore it all. This blog will never be what it once was, hell "blogging" in general has taken a huge turn in the last year. But dammit, this blog will still be something. I will let it languish in limbo no longer. A nice place to start: The Best of 2009 (So Far) [...]
London-based quintet My Sad Captains was formed in 2004 and has been praised by NME and The Fly since. They've been spending the past few years playing around the London area, sharing the stage with bands like Tilly and the Wall and the Broken Family Band, and creating homespun demos using a violin, guitar, keyboard, glockenspiel, samplers, and Malkmus vocals. Their alt-pop sound is slightly drowned by soulful Americana influences and they attempt to keep people's interest by developing creative melodies unique to themselves. The dusty coatings [...]

I was always under the impression that Copy Haho were actually called Copy Halo. I'm not entirely sure, as that isn't exactly a more logical name. In fact, I only noticed that it was Haho last week, several months after first listening to them. Those several months ago, I liked what I heard, and did intend to feature them. Promptly, I forgot all about them, as if often the way. Then I noticed that they are one of the Awesome Pals , and projected them right back into my blog field of vision. [...]
(Band might cause problems this go-around.) So, the big week's here, and so are we: South by Southwest, aka SXSW. For a shut-in such as moi, the main joyride is the cornucopia of songs the festival makes available at its splendid website. As some of you might have noticed, we've already posted a few of our favorites (c. 45), but we've got plenty more to go. If we didn't suffer the onus of
