Yeah, so this is a day late but I was either stuck on the London Underground or I was walking home for most of the day because someone left a bag unattended on the Tube. Attend to your bags, please. Eleven years ago, a cool band called My Vitriol released their debut (and only) album, Finelines . Before I embarked upon my day-long waste of time, I noticed that it was 05 March 2012 whilst talking about Hundred Reasons on Twitter - another band from the same era. [...]

Tweet I can be a bit of a music junkie from time to time, so I am the last person to complain about bands releasing a constant stream of music. Unless, obviously, we're referring to the Black Eyed Peas here - although it can't take longer than about ten minutes to write and record one of their tracks, so perhaps I should forgive them. Anyway, in the case of good bands, the more the merrier. That said, there's something to [...]

7 Years ago today the late, great Elliott Smith died. There is still some debate as to whether he committed suicide or not. But that's another matter altogether. This post is to celebrate the life of Smith and the never ending legacy that he left behind. I'm a huge fan of his songwriting skills and voice but i'm simply in awe of the raw emotion he could pluck and strum out of 6 simple guitar strings. There are only a handful of people in this universe of ours who [...]

Last week i watched a film that had been recommended to me by my friend Chris. You may have heard of it, i hadn't. It's a black comedy starring Robin Williams called "The Worlds Greatest Dad". And when i say black comedy i mean very black. It has moments of almost heartbreaking bleakness but most scenes are almost always complimented with a sense of humour that are enough to lighten up the dark side of the story. It deals with a lot of issues, some quite taboo, with a comedic element yet still manages to get it's point across every [...]

This is a review I did about 9 years ago for My Vitriol's debut 'Finelines. They feted and ridiculed in equal doses but they certainly had 1990's sound down. "Don't let their name put you off. If you've imagined leather-clad hair balls shouting from the top of their lungs over a sprawl of loud and aimless guitars motions then you you'd be wrong. My Vitriol have a much clearer agenda; at their best they can create clean harmonious vocals with clever guitar accompaniments. The band was formed when Som Wardner and Ravi Kesavaram met at college in [...]
Mansun & My Vitriol, Oxford Brookes, 19 October 2000 2000 didn't look like a fun year to be in a band, if eking out a career was your bag: stranded at the arse-end of Britpop, before the Strokes and White Stripes provided a coherent new model for indie types to work towards or against. This gig found two bands on opposite trajectories--Britpop somebodies Mansun in freefall, emo nobodies My Vitriol looking for a break--but united in glum resignation. Not a joy to watch. [...]

...And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead are due to perform in London tonight at the last ever show at the London Astoria but have been delayed indefinitely in Paris due to a terrorist alert. Uh oh.
In addition to the previous announcement that The Automatic and My Vitriol (featuring Paul Draper of Mansun) will be performing, ...And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead have been added to the last ever show at London Astoria. The Austin, Texas art-rockers will be releasing their sixth studio album, The Century Self on 02 March 2009 and will embark on a UK tour in April. Luckily they're in London to see the Astoria close. ...Trail of Dead April tourdates [...]
Legendary venue, the London Astoria is facing its final night on 14 January 2009 before closing to make way for some shops and stuff while they build the Crossrail thing underneath it. Headlining the night will be The Automatic with a host of other bands including My Vitriol , Get Cape, Wear Cape, Fly, The King Blues, VV Brown and Frank Turner with loads more yet to confirm. In one last hurrah, these bands are giving the central London venue a big send-off whilst raising money for charities, Love Music, [...]

They say that the modern music loving public are a fickly bunch, after all, a mockery was made of the UK Christmas charts this year. That is due to the fact that it was dominated by two unoriginal renditions of a song that has been available in many versions, since back when Newcastle United were a decent football team. Bucking this trend is the Som Wardner fronted Nu /gazing old style grunge mixing, My Vitriol and their fans. After releasing a stirring, searching and grinding debut album, 'Finelines' in 2001, remixing the album and a few single releases [...]

Gig Of The Week: Genghis Tron, Behold The Arctopus, Rolo Tomassi , The Network - The Underworld Prepare for supreme noise making at Underworld on Saturday as Americans Genghis Tron follow up their European stint with The Faint with a short UK tour. Backed by a multi-talented string of bands, not least Sheffield stars Rolo Tomassi (for the London show only), the potential of this night is stellar. This amazing line up is unbelievably not sold out - and under a tenner face value! Tickets: See [...]

Beginning yesterday, Malaysians who have pirated versions of Windows XP Professional installed in their computer will have their screens going black every 60 minutes. This is likely to affect roughly three million of the 8.6 million Win XP Pro users in the country, and is an extension of the continual struggle by authorities to clamp down on piracy in the region. Nevertheless, early reports suggest the strategy may have to be tweaked; representatives from the Campaign Against Racist Computer Usage have insisted that the authorities offer options of white, yellow and albino screens as well. This story reminds [...]

They've been hibernating like so many hedgehogs since 2002, but who would have thought that we'd ever hear from them again? My Vitriol are back and planning London and American gigs. London is Koko on November 24th; the US dates haven't been confirmed, although apparently tickets for these ghost gigs are changing hands for $80. A deal which is better for scalper than mark, we'd suggest. Plug: Refresh your memory with Finelines/Between The Lines music my vitriol
