Obnoxious I know, considering that I've only just posted the Best Albums of 2008. But alas, it's snowing...Hard. And when it's snowing this hard, there's only one thing to be done. BLOG. IT. UP. Somewhere after the top five single reviews, I wondered about how I would write up the remaining ten tracks (read: got lazy). Suddenly, I thought up the genius idea of making my reviews correspond to their song's ranking in word quantity! And so, the idea has now been brought into fruition. And yes, I'm counting hyphenated [...]

Apparently the world is in love lockdown with Kanye West and still frothing over MGMT so this is where I come out of my cave (which, mind you, living conditions were terrible: I had to eat out of the kitchen sink for fuck's sake) and start to blog something that would benefit mankind. The first card up my sleeve is an oldish gem (circa 2004). Catchy vocal, kinky bass riffs that would make one sweat tears.. but most importantly holds onto that strong disco-house feel. This is what dreams are made of. It's the A side of [...]
I frequently get swept up in the music of a foreign country. This year, it's often been Japan, given my discovery of Pizzicato Five, but lately my fixation has moved west, back to France thanks to artists like Yelle and Carla Bruni. The latter started her career as a French and Italian model, crossing over into the music world before the turn of the century. Her debut Quelqu'un m'a dit was a huge Francophone hit, though its guitar-and-poetry-based follow-up No Promises didn't do as well. Her new album [...]

There are similarities between steroid-taking baseballers and trancepop. You take a fairly normal body, pump it up artificially and then take it on the road to perform in superdomes. Only there, in the spotlights and watched by thousands, it is most effective. Trance and trance-pop are my pet peeves, but if pushed, I'm willing to acknowledge that when played up to 11 in big arenas (or with a heavy foot on the gas pedal), it sure works. Phil Wilde knows this too, that's why he produced millionsellers for 2Unlimited and Belgian blonde Katrien Verbeek, better known [...]
