I feel like I waited my entire blogging career to see Mystery Jets. Yes, I skipped out on them opening for Mumford due to my disdain for the headliner, but I also knew that they'd be playing their own set with locals, Hello Caller. Read on for my thoughts on the evening, and photos from Brian. Hello Caller did a great job opening up to a pretty packed house at Lamberts. While they might have been a little cramped up their on the [...]

Our San Diego picks for the week*
With the snow in Britain finally cleared off all roads and hopefully not making another appearance during a far to brief summertime, this can only mean one thing: the start of a beautiful British festival season. Whilst there may only be sunshine for a couple of these weekends the main focus is on the music [...] The post Live At Leeds Festival reviewed appeared first on Cougar Microbes .

Frank Yang Things move quickly these days; this I know and understand, and yet it still manages to astound me sometimes. The ascent of London's Daughter , for example. It wasn't much over a year ago that the trio was still largely unknown, only getting on my radar by old-fashioned word of mouth and becoming one of my favourite discoveries of SXSW 2012 . When they came around to make their Toronto debut last October - still a ways off from releasing their debut album or making any real promotional push - they still [...]

Mystery Jets are one of those bands who can give fans a sense of belonging. Growing up, they were my favourite band, and that fact hasn’t changed in the past eight years. Mystery Jets are to be admired for their flawless songwriting talents and endless amount of musical genius which is always shown throughout their work. The group have created some of my all-time favouite musical memories, and I’m sure the feeling they’ve given me has been felt by thousands of other fans. MJs have taken us through incredible journeys in each of their four albums, and that passion is [...]

Peace played out to Birthdays in Dalston four days in a row, and on the last day Mystery Jets were announced as last minute guests. This is what happened.

For nearly a decade, the Mystery Jets have consistently been one of the finest live acts the UK has to offer. Renowned for their heady mix of fun-time indie pop and off-kilter hooks, the Eel Pie Island based sextet never fail to impress, with each of their studio albums a constant shift in dynamics and artistic direction. Released exclusively for Record Store Day on limited edition gold vinyl, Live At The Royal Festival Hall is a tour de force through the group's greatest [...]

Frode & Marcus I get why people have such affection for Shout Out Louds' 2005 debut Howl Howl Gaff Gaff ; the way it tapped into the scrappy, garage-rock sound in vogue at the time but rather than the insouciant attitude that typically came with the aesthetic, it offered a wide-eyed and sincere charm and stood apart from the pack for it. That said, it was only with 20072s Our Ill Wills , which polished up their pop and expanded it to widescreen dimensions, that I [...]
