1. Craig Finn - "Honolulu Blues" (The Hold Steady frontman steps out with his first solo album Clear Heart Full Eyes , out now on Vagrant. The songs are more acoustic based, rootsy and even bluesier than the Hold Steady but of course, still retain Craig's distinct vocals and knack for engaging storytelling, taking his sound from the bar to the coffee shop.) http://steadycraig.tumblr.com/ Download: 24 http://s3.amazonaws.com/site-i mages.vagrant.com/audio_items/ 301/08_Honolulu_Blues.mp3 2. The stars are indifferent to astronomy as I am to this music. The value of a good, catchy rock song is a timeless one. There's something to be said for an intricate, complicated piece of music, but there are some days where a straightforward, hummable track hits the spot just right. As popular music's history has progressed, there have been trends in both the catchy and complicated that have interweaved with each other, but prior to the late 1960s, the music that dominated the airwaves and the...

Chairlift – Something (Columbia Records) Caroline Polachek e Patrick Wimberly acertaram a mão.

If 2012 is really the apocalypse, we'll at least be serenaded by lots of great music as our world goes up in flames. Yes, it's another great week of new releases filled with KEXP favorites, new and old. In fact, we've long been fans of Nada Surf , who return with their sixth album this week, which according to our Music Director, Don Yates, "finds them injecting some welcome additional energy and aggression into their melodic pop-rock sound via quicker tempos and some bristling electric guitar lines." Fans needn't fear that the New York band is trying to recapture [...]
Nada Surf's new album The Stars Are Indifferent to Astronomy is finally out today, and to celebrate the trio will stream their live concert tonight. They will stream their sold out show at the Bowery Ballroom tonight at 7pm PST...
With The Stars Are Indifferent To Astronomy, power poppers Nada Surf remain undeniably Nada Surf.

Pitchfork gave this album a measley 4.4, but I wouldn;t really expect them to understand that Nada Surf aren't a band that are going to be breaking new ground in music but are probably one of the most consistent indie-pop bands out there. I find their albums to be very infectious and something I can pop in at any time of the day for a good quick listen. You can stream the entire album at Spinner.com .
Will this be the album that finally makes these guys "Popular"? Read more »

But let's kick it off with our most anticipated artist, Nada Surf , who's lengthy-titled album Stars Are Indifferent to Astronomy . We're excited to get our dirty paws on this one. Rating: 3.5 out of 5 stars When a band releases their seventh album in well over a decade, you have to wonder, what's left to prove? Those of you who've followed the endearing path of Nada Surf for the duration will find that The Stars Are Indifferent to Astronomy is indicative of a band still willing to go out and have a blast [...]

On the eve of the release of their seventh album, When The Gramophone Rings sits down with indie veterans Nada Surf to discuss their new ambition, why recording a covers album freed them up and why it's never good to be hot. "Oh I could so some of that..." It's a sunny but freezing cold morning in central London and Nada Surf frontman Matthew Caws is in cheerful discussion with WTGR about the merits of vintage shopping in Essex's 'tranquil haven' Saffron Walden. As bizarre as it sounds, it's not entirely without [...]

Their sixth proper studio album in fifteen years for Nada Surf isn't the best return, but then the band have never had an easy ride

I first saw Palomar a couple years back when they opened for The Wrens at their two-night 20th anniversary throwdown in NJ at Maxwells. Comprised of three woman and a guy drummer, they played great kick ass songs with running streams of power pop and folk, and harmonic melodies that wrap around you and hold you tight. Since their inception in 1998, Palomar has released four full-lengths and one EP. Sense & Antisense , their fifth full-length, contains contributions by the likes of [...]
