It takes more than seven minutes to slog through the fuzz and the feedback of Yuck's "Rubber". The band that so stunned us earlier this year with the Pains of Being Pure At Heart-inspired "Georgia," have gone in something of a different direction as they ready their debut LP for a February release. Here, they evoke a ground-down Thurston Moore aesthetic, or the Pixies, if recorded underwater at
:: So what did you haul in for Record Store Day? As expected, I didn't get to buy a lot of stuff I wanted. But I did get that Blood Mountain reissue (but only the single-LP edition, sadly). :: The Summer Slaughter Tour lineup for 2010 has been announced. It includes Decapitated , The Faceless and The Red Chord , among others. :: Reverend Peyton's Big Damn Band recently discussed their run on Warped Tour and their upcoming album. [...]

Having never before heard anything from Nakatomi Plaza and considering just how good their final album Ghosts is, I'm actually a bit disappointed that the band recently called it quits. While that means I won't have a chance to see 'em live, I do know that I'll be digging around through their other releases. On the surface, I guess you could call Ghosts a melodic punk rock album, but there is so much more to it than that. I also wouldn't call it post-hardcore or post-rock but these songs are certainly [...]

Well, in typical Ripple fashion, it seems that our passionate piece about the demise of the punk band Nakatomi Plaza touched off a mini-firestorm of controversy. Picked up by AbsolutePunk.com, we were literally inundated with people sending in their thoughts, most agreeing, some arguing with our comments on the band's breakup and the general state of the music industry. With that much controversy created, you better believe we couldn't wait to get lead Nakatomi Plaza man, Oscar Albis Rodriguez, into our Ripple office and on to our red leather interview couch, and give him an opportunity to set [...]

What will you steal when there is nothing left of any value? On September 12th, 2009, post-hardcore, indy rockers, Nakatomi Plaza , finished a sweat-soaked performance at Brooklyn's Shea Stadium, thanked their fans, put down their instruments, and walked away from a career that spanned 10 years, four albums, a handful of EP's and a pocketful of singles. In leaving, the band held their collective heads high, choosing to walk away from the band they loved, rather than continue to watch the industry idolize the talentless, [...]

I woke up in Louisville next to a weed whacker. I was in Allyson's spare room which she had not yet unpacked. This is not the first time I've woken up next to gas powered lawn care equipment. Last time, it was a leaf blower. This is my life. Six years ago, my old punk band played a show in the backyard of a skatepark hostel (yes, a hostel just for skaters) on a sunny afternoon in Louisville. As we hit the first chord, twenty or so teenagers burst from around the corner of the [...]

As a few of you know, I have a few musical projects that take up a lot of my time, and one of them is the indie-folk band Bro. Stephen which is on tour right now and will be through October which will keep me out of Louisville for quite some time. Now, you will have to excuse the shameful self-promotion because this really isn't about me. This is about all of the bands that I've met and will meet along the way and who you should check out and support in hopes that we can lure a [...]

Gainesville, FL. November 1st-2nd, 2008 The weekend before last, I rode along with Atlanta instrumental rockers Sorry No Ferrari for their performance at The Fest, a punk music festival in Gainesville, Florida. I woke up very early Saturday morning after a long Halloween night to ride along with the three fourths of the band I didn't really know, but between naps I had plenty of conversation with them about things including music, the history of the band, and barbecue. This was actually the first show with their new drummer, Jonathan Balsamo, so [...]

Not quite Leafblower quality , but I didn't know I'd be put in this situation when I left the house yesterday morning and the Sidekick has a famously poor camera. I got to watch the Knicks game from the third row courtside last night, which, as a kid who went to dozens of Knicks games growing up from mostly the 300 section, was a real treat. Realizing the gargantuan size of players like Eddy Curry and Shaq up close, seeing all the facial expressions and neck tattoos in person, stuff like that. It's a completely different experience [...]

So we're back after watching the Colts dominate the Bears in Super Bowl, much to our surprise. The Colts won the battle at the line of scrimmage the entire game, and most importantly, simply wanted it more. Congrats to Tony, Peyton, and the rest of the organization. We're fighting through another cold week here in Central Wisconsin by bringing you some hot tunes this week from fresh new artists like Nakatomi Plaza, featured below. Let me know if you've got any requests for coverage or if there's someone out there I should be listening to by contacting me [...]
