This is Night People Records . They aren't just awesome, they are so eye-wateringly awesome I am tempted to give up on the label business altogether and take up knitting. I'm a pretty phlegmatic kind of a person most of the time, and there are very few labels who generate any kind of real envy in me, but these guys definitely manage it. Johnny from Fence and Stuart from Chemikal Underground are such lovely guys I could never be that nice if I took classes, never mind the respect I have [...]

Dusty, dark-souled Sydney no-wave rock 'n' roll stompers Naked On The Vague are currently on tour with labelmates Zola Jesus and Cult Of Youth in support of their new Twelve Dark Noons EP. The onetime duo of Lucy Cliche and Matthew Hopkins has expanded to a quartet: The additional hands have resulted in a softer, more psychedelic sound. Hopkins has jokingly described the update as "Dracula fronting the B-52's." Maybe, maybe not, but the moon-obsessed nighttime visuals in this video directed by Jacqueline Castel are evocative of plenty of horror flicks. Appropriately, [...]

MP3: Naked On The Vague - Abstract Figures Sydney's pioneering apocalyptic freaks Naked On The Vague are back with what's probably their most "accessible" jam so far, whatever that means: the a-side from the forthcoming Abstract Figures 7" (look out for it in almost no record stores on April 29) is propulsive and fidgeting, like a lot of the duo's earlier output, but more differently. It's (almost) hummable, for one, with an excellently '80s rock vibe to it. As in, this is what it might sound like if Naked On The Vague covered INXS? [...]
Wet Hair "Echo Lady" from A Roche on Vimeo. There are more than a handful of reasons to enjoy the new single from Wet Hair: 1. The sound is reminiscent of Moon Duo. Crashing waves of Kraut-rock influenced bass and guitar. Repetitions upon repetitions upon repetitions of sound and noise and melody that bucks and starts in to [...]

The Australian duo Naked on the Vague are now a four-piece with a new record coming out later this year via Night People and Sacred Bones. Twelve Dark Noons is an accompaniment to a film by Jacqueline Castel of Future Primitive Films coming this spring. Watch the teaser here . Clock of 12s [ via ] The band will be supporting Zola Jesus on her US tour in April/May, check out the dates on their website .

The aural accompanyment to Naked on the Vague's soon go be released film, also titled Twelve Dark Noons which will be released later in the year as a joint venture between Night People and Sacred Bones. Here again the band is in full four-piece form and the extra push of drummer Lachlan Vercoe and bassist Nic De Jong bring a rhytmic clarity to their darkened post-punk. While the film is reportedly a manic unraveling of minds set in the Australian outback, the EP doesn't quite touch on anything that psychedelic. It does however mine a sinister strain of [...]
Post-punker Zola Jesus is set to go on her North American Spring Tour with opening act supporters Cult of Youth and Naked on the Vague. Most notably, Zola will be playing at the Bowery Ballroom on April 23, which is currently on AMEX pre-sale. Zola Jesus has often times been compared to Fever Ray, however, [...]

Sydney's an OK place to live! There's the Sydney Opera House, and the Sydney Harbour Bridge, and those are pretty great. The thing is, Sydney can sometimes feel like a gross, soulless tourist town where every band plays electro-rock and wears $600 jeans and works in advertising (which is a valid lifestyle choice! Totally). That's why R.I.P. Society 's recent rise to glory is great for the usual reasons that a great record label is great (this year they released records from Royal Headache, Boomgates and Circle Pit and virtually every other Australian punk band worth listening to), but [...]

Following on their excellent entry to this year's Bored Fortress 7" series, Wet Hair continue the collaboration train with a split with Naked on the Vague. Reed and Garbes continue to spill further into some enchanted noise-pop garden with burbling sounds and an innocent lilt that makes these tracks wiggle with more wonder than they've ever packed before. Definitely some of the strongest compositions we've heard from the pair yet. On the flip, Naked on the Vague also seem more at ease than they've been on previous releases, with some swirling pastoral jams that perfectly compliment Wet Hair's tracks. As [...]
Kind of slept on this for a bit but here's a tiny and of course mysterious teaser for the Twelve Dark Noons collaborative short film due out next year; judging from this it seems to be coming together amazingly in luscious Jodorowsky colour with weird relics to match and sonic mythos from Naked On The Vague . Produced by Caleb Braaten of Sacred Bones Records , directed by Jacqueline Castel of Future Primitive Films , with the collaborative work and art of Shawn Reed of label Night People and band Wet Hair. [...]
Naked On The Vague is: 1. My Australian co-worker informed me that a "vague" is an Aussie term for a shitter. Thus, Naked On The Vague translates in to being buck naked on the pot. Which translates in to the sort of drunken, drugged out evening where you somehow end up inflamed with digestive issue, sans [...]
Panic induced dystopian noise rock.
Siltbreeze and Naked on the Vague team up again to fill the world with shaky vibes and darkened pop permeations on their second full length, Heaps of Nothing . The Australians still ravage the post-punk landscape but reach for a bit more clarity than poked through the first time around. Said clarity may stem from the addition of a proper rhythm section, filling out the duo from their debut to a full four members for this release. However a gathering of players has done nothing to lighten the disposition of Lucy and Matthew's songwriting; steamrolling ears with a delightfully [...]
Sadly, legendary GangStarr MC, Guru , has failed to recover from the heart issues he was hospitalised for in February , passing away earlier tonight. Via DJ Premier's blog : Guru has passed away yesterday morning (April 19) after a long battle with cancer. According to (producer) Solar, Guru suffered from the malicious illness for over a year and after numerous special treatments under the supervision of medical specialists failed, the legendary MC succumbed to the disease. Guru always tried to keep this harrowing diagnosis in private but in early 2010 he had [...]

Naked On The Vague - These Days It's 2038. Bruce Springsteen's on the road in a modified Chevy pick-up. It's been modified to include bulletproof glass, heavy duty bullbar, flamethrower. All necessary to keep moving these days. The cannibal hordes littering the road respond best to steel and fire. The bulletproof glass is to protect against the nutso self-made commandos living out their post-apocalyptic fantasies, sniper rifle in hand. The Boss looks at his wristwatch: he's making good time. He's not expected onstage at the base for a few more hours, but anything could [...]
