Encore une perle extraite de 'Man On The Moon, The End Of Day' , le premier album de Kid Cudi. A défaut de se retrouver dans le classement des meilleurs albums de Hip-Hop de [...]

Naomi Punk - "N/A"

Naomi Punk - "N/A" This is just one of those tracks. There's. something. about. this. song. It's from Seattle native Naomi Punk's debut. It's not like the rest of the album. It was recorded by her mom (who grew up and works in Africa) in a village in Rwanda and the sounds were manipulated and tweaked (subtly and effectively) by Naomi. The song features African school children chanting along with some lo-fi musical backing, percussion, and handclaps. Lo-Fi music sometimes exudes pretentiousness and self-indulgence. These school children add such a strong element of genuine human spirit that, over the saturated and slightly [...]

Tuesday Bears: New Naomi Punk

Tuesday Bears: New Naomi Punk "N/A" the new song from Naomi Punk 's full-length debut has been circulating around the regular music blogs like Gorilla vs. Bear and Transparent today. The song, which sounds like a mix-mash of low-fi experimentation and garage tin-can hammering, features the voices of Rwandan children recording by Naomi 's mom. The sounds of schoolyard rhythms and jubilant drumming is impossible not to bring at least a little bit of a small to your face. After one listen there's very little doubt that you should stay tuned [...]

N/A

N/A Thanks to various sources for turning me on to this noisy/exuberant lo-fi schoolyard chant, taken from the debut full-length from Seattle's Naomi Punk . " N/A " is the closing track on the new record, and while it's not exactly representative of the rest of the work on the album (which is also very good), it's likely the most vibrant and infectiously uplifting thing you'll hear all day. Naomi Punk tells us: "...it is a song performed by Rwandan children in a town/village in Rwanda, and was recorded by my mom (she [...]

Cinnamon Swing

Cinnamon Swing Naomi Punk might have had all the mod cons of the C21st studio set-up at her disposal but we're very glad that the nomad in her chose instead to record this fantastically rousing, trance-like rural hymn with a classroom of hustling and bustling Rwandan schoolkids on their break. There's an impossibly bewitched and gliding passion that Ms Punk has unearthed from those excitable rascals which we wish went on for much longer than the two minutes we're treated to. If you want to demand more, you can do the aptly old fashioned thing and write her a letter [...]

Naomi Punk

Naomi Punk I just can't get enough of this uplifting little ditty. Apparently recorded in a rural Rwandan village among local kids by the artists mom, this is a masterfully lo-fi-ed and sound-manipulated capturing of gorgeously innocent native chanting. Hopefully that doesn't come off like too much of a smug colonial-reeking statement, hmmm but on the other hand isn't most of "world music""afro beat" at its' core yet another thinly veiled manifestation of smug colonialism? This track is something of an odd-duck amongst the rest of Naomi Punks' debut album, [...]
