Admittedly fatigued of writing long-form album reviews for close to 15 years, I created the Bleeders' Digest feature here at MetalSucks with the idea of giving a small number of records a thoughtful capsule review, leaving it open to all contributors. (Corey Mitchell has dutifully refined it for his purposes, resulting in what I consider [...]

If you're not familiar with this band, you may have been as out of the loop as I was. While I feel that the identities of Narrows' band members are ever-so appropriate, I will refrain from name-dropping in excitement until the end of the review. It's only fair that this project be treated as a standalone endeavor, a progressive and fresh undertaking, and not one that is a rehash or continuation of their previous bands' efforts (even if it may seem so). Since Narrows' first album (a self-titled 3-song release in 2008), the band has gone on to [...]
By Andy O'Connor (TX)Spring Break is over, guys. Time to get back to class. Now that SXSW 2012 is done, we're counting down the days until the next one. I mean, we're looking forward to Fall Break (Fun Fun Fun Fest), Summer Break (Chaos in Tejas), and Senior Skip Day (Rites of Darkness IV?), but SXSW is such a distinctive animal that no other music fest compares to it. It's overstuffed, yes, and

Still a teenager, Austrian vocalist and pianist Anja Plaschg debuted her project Soap And Skin on Lovetune For Vacuum (PIAS, 2009). These piano lieder mainly exploit the melodramatic skills of the vocalist, capable of alternating ecstatic melisma and whispered laments. Consequently the mood ranges from the solemn, philosophical Sleep to the childish, bouncing Spiracle . The accordion-driven elegy Cry Wolf , however, achieves an otherworldly quality. She is at her most virile in the lugubrious Thanatos . She is at her most sentimental in the tender lullaby Extinguish Me (with a piano melody reminiscent of Beethoven's Pathetique ) and in [...]

by BBG Narrows on the Lamar Pedestrian Bridge in Austin All was quiet on Austin's Lamar Pedestrian Bridge on the night of March 15th until around 2:15 AM. That's when Narrows and Regents kicked off a pair of short sets to around 300 people, as part of a bill brought to you by BrooklynVegan & Chaos in Tejas . Sleepytime Trio ( who I announced [...]

THIS WEEK'S BEST BET: Jane's Addiction w/ The Black Box Revelation Tuesday, March 13 The Tabernacle - 152 Luckie Street NW in Atlanta 30303 SOLD OUT! There was a time in my life when Jane's Addiction was the most important band in the world. They were the standard-bearers, the most daring and inventive group in the burgeoning alternative rock movement. Fusing muscular riffs with flowery art rock, the band used an unconventional pseudo-gypsy and glam aesthetic to blaze a trail through the underground and [...]

On March 19th, Austrian singer-songwriter Anja Franziska Plaschg will be dropping her second album under the Soap&Skin pseudonym, Narrow . "Wonder" is the second track to drop from the album, and the track is as simple as it is painful. Anja's weary voice coos softly over gently played piano arpeggios as an atmosphere of extremely faint instrumentation builds up from behind. The occasional heavy bass not pops into play, which serves as a constant reminder of how heavy and loud this song could have been. Though the total package is quiet, "Wonder" is pretty great [...]

Narrows recently introduced a new song from the forthcoming album Painted , which is out Feb. 28 on Deathwish . TB Positive comes to us in the form of a video comprised of stock footage. Narrows frontman - and former Botch vocalist, mind you - Dave Verrellen introduced the video: I'm happy that we get the opportunity to create and release music, and I'm also grateful that folks are interested in the origin, content, lyrics, feelings and so forth. But I generally let the songs speak for themselves. To [...]

Screw animated videos! Nothing is better than a good NSFW video like Warm Ghost's new one for "Myths On Rotting Ships". Why is it NSFW you may ask? Well, there's lady privates and man privates for the ladies. I'm guessing the guy is a lumberjack...because of his red flannel. Oh, and he has wood. Watch the new video below and check out front-man Paul Duncan's explanation for the video. Read more »
What a weekend. Just think, a week from today I'll either be living the high life - on cloud nine - sharing a mix tape in celebration of the New York Giants winning the Super Bowl, or I'll be the brunt of every joke made by my six Boston-native roommates if the Patriots win. I'm [...]

Up and coming dubstep producer Sleeper recently released his 'Zombies/Scanners' single and it's already incredibly big. All three tracks are currently on the Beatport Dubstep Top 100 with Zombies at #46, Scanners at #53, and Narrow at #57. Sleeper is sure to blow up with lots of heavy-hitters in the mix for 2012. Zombies is especially huge and is easily recognizable with it's grim vibe and dark sounds. Sleeper - Zombies Download: Beatport
Narrows Painted Deathwish Inc 28 February 2011 by Tom Doyle Whilst there has been much written about the Mayan prediction of the destruction of the world this year, there has be relatively little discussion about what the soundtrack to that impending apocalypse will be. Well, I humbly submit that with their second full-length, Painted , Narrows have [...]

There's an awful lot of Christmas tunes out there this year beyond the usual gubbins of Carey, Como, et al. Some deserve to sit lonely and ignored in the further reaches of the interweb, like some cyber version of Eat Me dates, but some have piqued our Yuletide cravings and misgivings. Hence we've given over the second instalment of Sack of Streams to some big baubled tunes. Santa's perspective on the season he gives so much to is often ignored amongst the cacophony of pissed up jeers and board game family disputes. The Narrows have taken his viewpoint [...]
Those transatlantic metal innovators, Narrows , have gone and slipped out a preview for their forthcoming second full-length album, while we were busy throwing up Christmas decorations and generally being merry. 'Absolute Betrayer' showcases practically everything we love about this band, whipped into three-minute package of technicolour goodness - and you can check it out after the jump. 'Absolute Betrayer' by Narrows For anyone unfamiliar with Narrrows, they're an amalgamation of [...]

Check out "Absolute Betrayer" from the new Narrows album, Painted [to be released on Feb 28th on Deathwish, Inc. ] As an avid fan of Botch and a not so avid fan of Minus The Bear [sorry], this track simply shreds. Their last effort, New Distances, was only a pre-cursor to the energy and power of this band. NARROWS Absolute Betrayer by deathwishinc They'll be going on tour in March in support of Painted. [...]
What do you do when you're a bona fide powerhouse in the world of grind, power violence and noisecore? When you've already assured your place in the genres' histories thanks to your role in - among others - The Locust, Some Girls, and All Leather? Well, the answer is that you go and keep forming new bands to blow people's [...]
