Not sure what the story with this is, since it starts off pretty awkwardly and there's WorldStarHipHop.com tags all over the shots, but the description claims this is the official video for the track "Nah Mean" off Nas & Damian Marley's 2010 release "Distant Relatives." Regardless, Distant Relatives was one my of favorite albums of last summer, and its good to see some more material being released off of it as Summer 2011 comes up nah mean. Do you miss the days of over-the-top After Effects in hip-hop videos? Do you like smoke machines, burning torches and lions in your music videos? Are you nostalgic for absurd interpretations of iconography? Me neither, but there's plenty of each to spare in the latest video from Nas and Damian Marley's Distant Relatives collaboration. It must be strange as a performer to shoot something like that in front of a green screen and have no idea how it will turn out. In some seriousness, it's great to see Amadou & Miriam - [...]

This past weekend's North Coast Music Festival in Chicago looks to have gone off without a hitch and we'll hope to see it return next year. Thanks to the promoters for getting us some photo passes, because our man Chris Monaghan absolutely killed it this weekend and took some amazing shots. You can look back at his photos from Day One , Day Two and Day Three or read on for his Top 10 Photos from the weekend with a bit of commentary on each. I had to [...]

Put me into the category of people who had become a bit bored with the same drab, predictable plot lines in Entourage . Eric has nothing going on that's worth putting on film, Johnny is borderline annoying, and Turtle couldn't begin to dream about sleeping with this . One thing the show always had going for it, though, was its taste in music. The producers always seem to be on the cutting edge with solid music placement, from blasting Gnarls Barkley's "Gone Daddy Gone" on the way to Vegas to M.I.A.'s "Space" as Vince skydives for the first [...]

The second and final day of Outside Lands was a pretty successful music-filled day for me and my crew. I saw some seriously great music, ate some great food, enjoyed some $8 Newcastles, and generally left completely primed for the Worship My Organ face-melt that was planned for the late-night show at the Boom Boom Room. Mission accomplished. The festival was solid, though. We came away with tons of memories and a bit more energy compared to the two previous years when the festival was spread out amongst three different days. The [...]

Earlier this month, we brought you the news on the newest festival to hit the windy city: The North Coast Music Festival . The electronic music, hip hop and jam band heavy event will hit Chicago's Union Park this September 3 - 5. Well, the festival just announced their daily lineup, and the scheduling finds the Chemical Brothers headlining Friday night, Umphrey's McGee taking top billing on Saturday and Nas & Damian "Jr. Gong" Marley closing things out on Sunday, September 5. [...]

Speculation about the act lineup for the North Coast Music Festiva l began as early as March when it was announced the first edition of the fest would take place over labor day weekend, September 3 - 5, in Union Park - the same park Pitchfork Fest calls home. Well, the speculation can end today as the North Coast Music Festival has revealed it's debut artist lineup, which culls together an eclectic group of hip-hop, electronic and jam band acts. The festival will boast three headliners, presumably one for each day, and include the [...]

Sleigh Bells "Treat 'Em" If I held out on talking about Sleigh Bells any longer it might be considered a music crime, or tarnish my REP for neglect! A lot of music bloggers are calling Treats, the group's debut, one of the best album thus far of 2010. Not sure I'd go that far, as we all seem to overindulge these days on synthesizers and indie rock, but nonetheless--we'll let you decide. School of Seven Bells: "Babelonia" School of Seven Bells have a new album, and with that, a new dream-pop... Read more at www.SFCritic.com

by Benjamin Lozovsky DOWNLOAD: Nas & Damian Marley - Patience (MP3) ( via ) The day before their collaboration Distant Relatives hit the shelves, Nas and Damian "Jr. Gong" Marley looked more like brothers on stage, as they performed at a record release party at Highline Ballroom Monday night (5/17). Representing the gritty consciousness of their respective solo work, both displayed a smooth intensity as they plowed through a long set of [...]
