Video Soul was a must-watch back in the day. The videos that mattered most to me were those with an upbeat tempo and catchy chorus that was catchy, then they just needed something on the screen to look at. The long-forgotten show is where I discovered Miles Jaye's lone hit - the video for "Let's Start Love Over," which gained lots of play back then because of the aforementioned elements. The melody and chorus to "Let's Start..." has been reused a couple of times in rap tracks, further solidifying its immortality. The Lox and [...]
Rap specializes in masculine bravado so there aren't a lot of tender moments that come around. But this photo Nas shared on his Instagram qualifies as cute and he included the caption "In the streets of NY... I ran into a kid with the same hair cut as me." The picture has a certain sense of warmth and power, similar to but not as large as a similar shot of President Obama . It's the power of the idea that kids can believe in their dreams even stronger because they realize those [...]

In case you missed it , I posted part I of the photos from Alexander Stein and I's journey into Mud Hell, and back. Today, you'll find the sequel below starting with this striking image of Nas in his natural state as an emcee -bathed in light, steaze overflowing, and face obscured beneath the bill of a crisp new cap. If you were in attendance, you know too well that the rest of the event wasn't as prim and proper as Nasir looks here. But we'll save you the recap photos of the tartrap and just let you [...]

Check out the latest project by Montreal based producer, and rapidly growing star Kaytranada. Down4U , produced along side Michigan based Sango, is a slow trap banger with an emphasis on a hip-hop beat rather than an edm hook. I really like the track and it drew me to check out more of Sango's work as well, take a look at his remix of a Nas and Craig David track... it's crazy. Bonus: Nas - You Owe Me (Ft. Ginuwine) (Sango Edit)
Where isn't Kendrick these days? Yesterday, he performed live at the Governors Ball in NYC as well as the OG Nas. The way Kendrick dominates the stage is just great and well.. of course Nas is ILL. Check out the OG Nas. The post Kendrick Lamar & Nas Live at Governors Ball appeared first on TAPEDECK .

photos by Amanda Hatfield , words by Andrew Sacher Nas / Kendrick Lamar / people in mud Governors Ball continued on Saturday (6/8) for its second of three days. The weather was much better than day 1 , but Friday's storm kept the entire place a mud swamp. Of course, that made for some interesting things like the muddy mosh pit during [...]

A rare moment in rap as Jay-Z and Nas pose for a snapshot with Saturday's birthday boy, Kanye West, brought to you by Nasir . Yesterday was Kanye's 36th birthday.

The wait for J. Cole's Born Sinner will soon be over. That's if you weren't one of the lucky fans able to hear the album early (or haven't taken advantage of the accompanying faucet drip). Shortly before the scheduled listening session, Cole explained the backstory behind the much talked about song from the album, "Let Down Nas." Taking the circuitous route, Cole shares the story that finds its origins early on in his career when he attempted to service radio with "Who Dat." What happened from "Who Dat" was [...]

"So the bartender says, 'I was talking to the duck!'" Looks like a musical storm is brewing!! Can our brains handle a track with all 4 of these powerhouses on it?? Not sure what came of this studio session, however much like the recent Jay-Z x Drake spotting Im sure we'll find out soon enough.

Lenny S. strikes again. Last night, he shared an interesting photo of four artists and trendsetters - Jay-Z, Justin Timberlake, Nas and Timbaland - having laughs together with the caption "For some this is "Work"... For us it's just Fun. #RocNation."

At this point, it's pretty evident that Justin Timblerlake and Jay-Z , paired with production from Timbaland , can cook up some awesome tunes in the studio. After kicking off off JT's The 20/20 Experience era with the Jay-Z collaboration "Suit & Tie ," the superstars are heading out on a sold-out stadium tour across the country this summer. But the fun doesn't stop there: Timberlake, Jay-Z, Timbaland, and Nas spent studio time together recently, as seen in the picture above. The photo of the four hitmakers was posted on the [...]

For some this is "Work"... For us it's just Fun. #RocNation Abajo les compartimos la fotografía. Fotografía [...]

Now, what do we have here? Last night, photographer Lenny S. set the Internet on fire after posting this photo to Instagram . Might Lenny have just stumbled onto Jay-Z , Justin Timberlake , Nas , and Timbaland' s weekly game of Bunco, or could these four titans be cooking up some new music together? Perhaps for Timberlake's new album ? Or, maybe Jay-Z's ? Hopefully we learn more soon.
![AZ – Last Of A Dying Breed [Mixtape]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4988705_lg.jpg)
Now here's a nice lil' surprise that I didn't see landing on our digital doorstep this morning. AZ has teamed up with producer Baby Paul to craft the new Last of a Dying Breed mixtape, which compiles rarities, freestyles, and guest features from the Brooklyn rapper's career. Consider it an appetizer for the full course that will be his forthcoming Doe Or Die II album, which can't get here soon enough. I was admittedly harsh on lead single " We Movin' ", but I can admit that I was wrong. Song's fire. It's also on here, which I [...]

So it turns out that J. Cole didn’t disappoint Nas. Or maybe he did. Who knows? What we do know now is that there is no song by J. Cole called “I Disappointed Nas.” After Hot 97’s Peter Rosenberg shared some alleged insider information he received about the track, and stated that it would be named “something along the lines of ‘I Disappointed Nas’” Twitter timelines and WordPress drafts ignited with speculation. An exasperated Cole cleared up the confusion in an interview with SoulCulture UK yesterday, and stated in no uncertain terms that [...]

When customers go to Best Buy on June 18, the rap section will be filled with other fans all looking to pick up the new releases. There's Kanye's next opus, Mac Miller will be there and somewhere in the middle will be J. Cole's Born Sinner . And, according to Peter Rosenberg, Cole's got one very interesting track awaiting those who pick up the album. On Thursday's version of "The Realness," the Hot 97 DJ claimed that light-skinned Jermaine has a revealing, personal cut that speaks to him disappointing Nas. According to Rosenberg, Nasir called Cole to [...]
No one buys albums anymore, goes the music industry truism. And yet, for all that the format's commercial viability may or may not be on the wane, sitting and listening to a great album from start to finish is one of the greatest pleasures that music can bring. Flavorwire recently got to thinking about how one might build a record collection if you really only did buy one record a year. So here's the result of our thought exercise: 50 albums you really should own, one a year from 1963 until the present day. Yes, of course this mean things [...]
