Last weekend was my grandmother's Celebration of Life. It would have been her 92nd birthday. We all had margaritas (it was also Cinco de Mayo; I had three) and told funny stories about her life. It was a blast, a good closure and celebration to a woman who meant a lot to a lot of people. Upon returning on Monday, I took a trip out to Anacortes and The Business, picking up the new Cloud Nothings LP, Attack On Memory , which served as inspiration for tonight's show. [...]

An avid fan of eccentric jazz of avant garde nature, I was immediately drawn to Nat Baldwin 's new LP, People Changes . As an upright bassist, Baldwin can be found pouring his soul into Dirty Projectors, a band that prides itself in obscure pop sensibilities. His solo stuff, however, is where he truly shines. "Weights" is a recent video that blends Nat's bizarre style of pop-meets-free jazz with an off-beat music video plot. A nostalgic horse hosting a garage sale? Sure. Why [...]

I didn't post at all on FensePost last week. That's crazy. I had been on a roll, pumping out posts on a daily basis, then I hit a wall and needed an immediate break. But my breaks are typically filled with, well, something else. They're aren't true breaks , in the informal-synonym-for-vacation sense of the word. That's right, it was pledge week at KSVR and KSVU. Being pledge week, I came in Wednesday night and sat in on Jackson Stewart's Blue Boulevard and we [...]
Nat Baldwin - Weights My pal Nat's music is beautiful and powerful in this vaguely creepy, austere way. It especially shines in a live context - -so quiet and simple, yet somehow accomplishing the difficult task of bringing chatty crowds to a full stop. Furthermore, this video [d irected by Willy Berliner ] is really fucking great. — Flock of Dimes
Wild Kindness - a new label out of Youngstown, OH - has just released a benefit compilation for Girls Educational & Mentoring Services. GEMS is a New York-based organization designed to serve females, ages 12-24, who have experienced commercial sexual exploitation and domestic trafficking. The comp features contributions from many Ohio-based artists, a track from The Dirty Projectors' Nat Baldwin, and more. Here is the press release: Sunshine Off the Tracks: A Benefit for GEMS On March 31, 2012 Wild Kindness Records will release Sunshine Off the Tracks: A [...]

Another variety show, no particular theme. It was set to be a sunny weekend, and that meant hitting the road. After a late Friday night at the station, I woke up early, grabbed my bike and went on a solid 10 mile ride. It was the first of the sort for 2012; the first of many. I need to get in shape for the 200 mile Seattle to Portland ride in July. Just about half way, I paused to snap the shot above. The Skagit Valley is known [...]

Named after a semi large device which projects images to a surface that haven't seen the light of day from a wee little Vileda cloth, the Dirty Projectors from out of Brooklyn, New York strike up a lovely pre summery regalia of strings and percussion. Coated right over with an Antony and the Johnsons-esque vocal, five other vivid starlights swing and sway their talents fantastically. Through a torrid of sextuplet-musical-creation, they mastermind a clear sighted dynasty to breath unrestriction into an always active & eclectic polluted airspace. 'Hyperballad' is an unquenchable appetite of pure continuous pleasure. [...]
![Nat Baldwin & Landon A.R. Coleman @ Raw Sugar Cafe [February 19, 2012]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4075751_lg.jpg)
Sure a fun weekend in Ottawa. Went to Raw Sugar Cafe on February 19, 2012 to see: • Nat Baldwin • Landon A.R. Coleman I was very excited for this show because I missed the show last time he played in Ottawa on November 18, 2010 . Only caught the last two songs of the set. He mentioned that he was hungover from [...]
Welcome to The Art of the Video, our constantly-growing series in which we take a closer look at our favorite music videos. Today's edition features Willy Berliner, director of the video for Nat Baldwin's "Weights," an excellent track from Baldwin's stellar People Changes. In the past, we've let directors walk us through their process, but [...]
Tweet vaso link Nat Baldwin, if you're unaware, is a member of Dirty Projectors (who have to have something new coming out this year, right?) Anyway, Baldwin released his solo album, People Changes , last fall on Western Vinyl . This is the equine-centric video for the track "Weights" from it, which features yard sales, nostalgia, and an ultimately happy ending, but not the kind you're thinking of, pervert. Connect with Nat Baldwin // Facebook

If this week's music videos have anything in common, it's that many of them are flush with violence and disturbing visions. But my two favorite of the week didn't have any of that, even though the razor gloves and anthropomorphic horses probably could've been freakout material in other directors' hands. Instead, Perfume Genius and Nat Baldwin gave us perfectly sweet and romantic, albeit weird, visions. Check out our picks below. Read More...

Dirty Projectors at FFF Fest 2010 ( more by Tim Griffin ) The American Museum of Natural History's One Step Beyond series continues on Friday (1/20) in the Rose Center with a headlining DJ set by Dirty Projectors with support from DJ sets by Skinny Friedman and Import/Export and visuals by Glowing Pictures . Tickets are still available, though reportedly going super fast. [...]
Beeld: Nat Baldwin - Weights Paard van de dag?
Last year, Dirty Projectors member Nat Baldwin released his solo album People Changes . Today, he gives us a truly great music video for the album track "Weights." If I describe much of director Willy Berliner 's video, I'll give too much away. So I'll just offer this quick plot synopsis: A horse reflects on the artifacts of another time. It's like the most emotive episode of Mr. Ed ever, and it's perfectly ridiculous. Watch it below. Read More...

Facebook Nestled amidst some concert announcements in a post last week were a couple of odd one-offs for No Joy and PS I Love You which were not part of any announced tour or timely promotional cycle. It didn't occur to me to ask why, but just a little bit of thought would have made the answer obvious - Wavelength . The dates of their shows corresponded to the four-day weekend of the Toronto music series' twelfth anniversary festival, and though neither of those acts is properly local - they [...]
Nat is lucky enough to get his own post, mostly because I feel bad about my Knicks taking down his Celtics on Christmas day. The Dirty Projector/upright bass superstar gave us a thorough list, one that includes books and venues too! Check it out below, and check out Nat's newest release, People Changes. It happens [...]

#30 Iron & Wine - Kiss Each Other Clean [...]
