It's no secret that we're complete suckers for smoky-voiced, female singer-songwriters here at The Wild Honey Pie. Honestly, if you were to look at the contents of my iPod, you would be led to believe that the only musicians in the world were sincere women who sing in low registers. With that in mind, Natureboy (@natureboysongs), the project of former House on a Hill member Sara Kermanshahi, is completely within our wheelhouse, right down to Sharon Van Etten's guest vocals. Atmospheric synths sweep in and out of simple pop songs [...]

We reviewed Natureboy's self-titled debut album last November. While it was far from being one of our favorites, Natureboy showed promise with our reviewer saying, I truly hope Sarah [Kermanshahi] can break out of the Brooklyn manufactured tautology...just so long as she doesn't end up in a cabin in the woods. . Now Natureboy has a new album on the horizon called The Sweep that the band is currently shopping to labels. Sharon Van Etten even has a guest appearance on the new album. Take a listen to The Sweep [...]
Given and Taken in Ink - April 2012 from gtimusic on 8tracks . April has been a surprisingly good month for music. Moonlight Bride was featured in GTI's March 2012 mix, but "Diego" has been in heavy rotation since then, so I couldn't pass it up here. Likewise, this month also saw Holy Esque release a new single, "Ladybird Love." I'm so glad to feature new music from the always-excellent Yuck and Joe Pug . There's the heartbreaking "Small Hands," by Keaton Henson," and Natureboy's intoxicating "Blow [...]

I will always fondly remember the moments I heard a song for the first time and everything around me just seemed to...stop. These are the songs that almost defy explanation, and we who write about music can only struggle to place descriptive words where none belong. So it was with Natureboy's "Blow to the Head," the first song released from the band's upcoming second album, The Sweep . Something ineffable about "Blow to the Head" grips the imagination and just makes the rest of the world go quiet. Natureboy is the project of Sara Kermanshahi, a first [...]

[Photos by acidjack and Johnny Fried Chicken Boy] Natureboy ranks high among bands that we have been pulling for on this site. While we have hosted shows that featured the band before , we were thrilled to have the chance to co-sponsor this show at Union Pool with Kevchino . We are pleased to report that the band we saw was light years more mature and even sharper musically than before. Since we last saw the band, they have added a drummer and keyboardist to enrich their Dylan-inspired folk-rock sound. Founder [...]

We are teaming up with Kevchino to present an excellent bill at Union Pool tomorrow night. The show will feature 3 excellent bands, all of whom who have appeared on NYCTaper in one form or another. I missed this on it's UK release back in 2010, but caught it second time around after a PR email dropped into Beat Surrender's inbox giving details of the US release of debut album from Sara Kermanshahi music project Natureboy, compelling indie-folk with a wonderfully evocative vocal. The band are currently recording the follow up album The Sweep which will features guest vocals from the wonderful Sharon Van Etten, Bleek Records are set to release the first single from the new album in February 2012. Natureboy "Pariah" by Bleek Records [...]
Natureboy is not a boy. It took me a while to figure that one out. Not because of her looks: she's indeed a bonny lass, but rather because the vocals Sara Kermanshahi are ambiguously delivered: neither masculine nor feminine. And that lends a fantastically malleable c haracteristic to all of her lyrics and choruses; they could be about anyone or [...]
The Bleek Records debut of this 1st generation Iranian-American Singer/Songwriter is stark, spacious and haunting. Big surprise, she's coming out of Brooklyn. Read more » http://rpc.blogcatalog.com/ http://rpc.technorati.com/rpc/ ping

We have loved Natureboy since we stumbled upon their debut album, which percolated across the blogosphere back in 2009. Now, that amazing album gets an official U.S. release today via Bleek Records . Let's all revisit the stellar track "Pariah" and remind ourselves that this overlooked record deserves attention, now. Pariah by Natureboy Natureboy "Pariah" by Bleek Records

Chapel Club, by Kenny McMurtrie By Kenny McMurtrie October 11, 2011 Quite a night for seconds this – only Chapel Club 's second time in the city, the second time they've played their new songs and their time on stage was split into two, albeit loosely. This last fact though was, along with some beer-on-electrics related volume issues, a minor sore point with some in the audience. Punters expect to recognise what they've paid to hear, at least within the first couple of numbers after a band [...]

Oh Land at Brooklyn Bowl. Photo by Eloy Anzola We were treated to a lot of amazing music this year, and the site has continued to grow. This year, we reached our 600th recording posted since 2007 - a pretty incredible number considering that this is only the fourth year of the site. As a final New Year's treat to our readers, we thought we would share a "mixtape" with you of some of our favorite concert moments of 2010. Out of the two hundred-plus shows that we saw, we selected [...]
