i have new hardware, so i am VERY busy making multiple playlists, all with exceedingly (and unnecessarily) cryptic names. some involve long strings of numbers. it's good time. alas, the ipod has seemingly bit the dust, but in between gadgets, i found time to make a pant load of mix cds. here are some of the songs that made appearances, and also: i think you would look super cool if you were playing them loudly at a red light with the windows down. because as we all know, music isn't about art, it's about looking cool. Hoosier Sameer Mishra just captured the 2008 Scripps National Spelling Bee championship by correctly spelling guerdon. (Interesting...the word isn't in Google's spell check dictionary.) Our office has a little tradition around the spelling bee. Each employee is randomly assigned 3 contestants and the one whose contestant finishes wins gets the office trophy. I won the inaugural contest two years ago, then refused to give up my trophy last year. I'm hoping that it's still securely glued to my desk when I return to the office on Monday. In honor of Sameer and all [...]
Sorry for the lack of postage here, but yours truly has been most busy these last couple weeks. I need to get another writer.... Anyway, I be back and am lampin' with more from the land of videos that changed my life. ------------------------------ ---- Top 5: 5. Daft Punk: Around the World 4. Naughty By Nature: Hip Hop Hooray This is probably one of the greatest hip hop songs ever recorded. Everything about it is perfect: the rising baseline, the swagger of the switched up vocals and a sing along chorus that [...]
Last year for my big Christmas post I put up every single White Stripes single I owned. This year I'm doing something a bit different and I'm cleaning out my closet of old-school hip-hop and R&B. This isn't all the old-school shit I got, but it's some of the best. Here's hoping all of you have a happy Christmas and stuff. See you next week. L.L. Cool J Mama Said Knock You Out (Hot Mix Long) Mama Said Knock You Out (7 A.M. Mix) Arguably one [...]

-Oh Zack, what ever happened?? Hey Friday peeps! If you're in Vancovuer, come down to Versus night, the Pissing Match at the Bourbon. Hit me up for guestlist. This one is a banger. I think it's gotten even better than I remembered it to be. Whatever happened to Heavy D, did he get too heavy? This one was his biggest mainstream hit, a cover of the O'Jays which would then be covered by the 70's reggae band Third World before coming round to Heavy and his Boyz. [...]

Man..I`m really sorry for the lack of effort around here @ Neiles Life. 1. Knocked Up is worthy of the crazy hype being thrown its way. Yes, like 40 Year Old Virgin it seemed a bit plot-heavy and maybe even a little saccharine at times. However, at this moment in time Judd Apatow owns the world of mainstream comedy. The dialogue is painfully honest and razor-sharp, the situations are hilariously absurd (especially a hallucinogenic journey to Cirque De Soleil), and for all practical purposes, it might be the funniest depiction of stoners since Half Baked. Easily the best comedy I've seen since Borat [...]

Girl Talk's Night Ripper , this summer's hot blogness, has inspired many conversations between us music geeks. When I got the CD, I grabbed my pad and paper and started scribbling down every sample that I thought I recognized, however challenging it was. So then I e-mailed Heather of I Am Fuel, You Are Friends and after talking about a collaborative post lo and behold she sent me the wiki link to a list of samples and it made our [...]
