(photo via google image search ) Smoothly skating into our 5th episode of WTD radio (courtesy of the rad fellows at Indie-Verse ) I put together a quick list of everything that I've been listening to for the past week. New tracks from Wild Harem and Harlem (both out of Austin, I might add), Wetdog, and Americans in France. For good measure I've peppered in some classic favorites of mine. I know you're probably missing the silky smooth linguistics of Ryan, but he will be back next week. I promise. To get thrown into our regular [...]

Northern Autumn/Southern Spring mix #3 (65MB) We're getting to the business end of the season(s) now, it's true, but just for kix here's a compilation of tunes new and old to enrich and enhance your experiences in these ultra-poetic quarters. Autumn got a lot of nostalgic connotations or whatever but right now Spring in the southern hemisphere has a similar vibe, all cold and wet and turtleneck-justifying. 1. A blender of tropicalia, Afro-pop, surf rock—and yes, plenty of spacey psychedelia—is what you can expect from Navajo Bixby , the project of New Jersey's Judd Hower. So far Hower has released two excellent demos-"Moonlighting" and "Many Ways"—both steeped in the sunshine of another era. Check for updates on the band via its Myspace or label, London's No Pain In Pop . Navajo Bixby - "Moonlighting" Navajo Bixby - "Many Ways"

My friends down-under at Rose Quartz kept me cool to Judd Hower's attempt to keep Summer alive, Navajo Bixby . "Moonlighting" is over 5 minutes of soothing beach pop and works effortlessly to keep yr senses very busy. The way the track transforms it is almost like two cuts, call em "Moon" and "Lighting", that seamlessly combine into one another. Judd does have a carousel of genres going on here, but it's interesting enough to avoid an identity crisis. Navajo Bixby - Moonlighting

There's also good feelings to be had in its 21st century cut-n-paste loop execution, and its overt love of 50s/60s guitar pop. The combined effect is strangely familiar and cross-generational, like yr grandad listening to old LPs while you blast some 'hot new mp3s' from yr laptop [...]
