by Bill Pearis Neckbeard Telecaster @ Mercury Lounge, May 2011 ( more by Toby Tenenbaum ) Brooklyn's multi-male, whiskey-loving collective Neckbeard Telecaster have just released their self-titled debut which you can get from the band's website . The album definitely has some twang, but I wouldn't really call it country. You can get a taste of the record via the video for "Hooker Money," which finds pretty much every member of the band at a difficult time in their lives. You [...]

Monday: Shy Child, Free Blood, Pwrfl Power @ Santo's Party House 8pm $10 All three bands have been buzzed about to no end, but what you may not have heard amongst all the hyperbole surrounding these bands is that they all can play and they are all actually worthy of your attention. Oof. In some horrible news for the morning, Dirty On Purpose announced that have decided to call it quits, though, at least in their sendoff: We're all still buddies and live in the same town, so we reserve the right to change our minds and get back together in six months if we feel like it. they leave the possibility open that there may be a sequel like so many Hollywood blockbusters with holes in the endings. I take some solace in the fact that they [...]

>> We join the chorus of outlets expressing disappointment at the breakup of Brooklyn-based nu-gaze superlatives Dirty On Purpose , who disclosed their demise via presser this afternoon. The quartet, which formed in 2002, will play a final show on New Years Eve at Manhattan's Mercury Lounge, where it will open for the purportedly "loudest band in New York," noiseniks-in-arms A Place To Bury Strangers . According to the statement, the band returned from tour a month ago, discussed making another record, and ultimately decided that was something it didn't want to [...]

Our friend Jinners runs On The Moon Music, a management company loaded with great artists, and she's throwing an unoffical CMJ showcase Thursday night at Death By Audio in Crooklyn. Did I mention free beer? I'll be getting there early to catch Purse Snatchers, featuring Doug Marvin from Dirty on Purpose and Annie Hart of Au Revoir Simone. And chances are that some of that free beer will be airborne once Cheeseburger hits the stage... Purse Snatchers - "Tongue Twister" mp3 [...]

I was tipped off about Neckbeard USA , formerly Neckbeard Telecaster, by fellow music enthusiast Doctor A. of Rotoworld. He had also clued me in about Dirty on Purpose back in March which subsequently lead to DOP in my steady rotation. Neckbeard is a collaboration of musicians in Brooklyn with some members of Dirty On Purpose, The Shorebirds and others. You'll find sparse info on the web about them, but there is a killer version of Leonard Cohen's "Sundown" on their myspace page. I also tracked a practice session and a cover [...]
