By now you've seen Monday's WEWS-TV news clip featuring Neighbor of the Year, Charles Ramsey, and his heroic retelling of rescuing kidnapping victim Amanda Berry. If not, click here . Here's the 911 call Ramsey placed at his home moments after helping Berry escape. It's not quite as remix-worthy as his news segment (it's already been auto-tuned twice ), but the fact that he calls a 911 operator "bro" is Internet sensation enough for me. Listen in. h/t The High Definite [...]

On Monday, three kidnapping victims who went missing back in 2003 were discovered in a south Cleveland home by a master storyteller named Charles Ramsey. If it weren't for Ramsey, or his amazing tale to WEWS-TV, then we may never have known how the dramatic end to the tragic 10-year abduction of Amanda Berry, Michele Knight and Gina DeJesus unfolded. Seriously, he had me way before "Bro, I knew something was wrong when a pretty little white girl ran into a black man’s arms." You had better watch the entire clip below. This man is a [...]

With each release, Seattle's Neighbors get better and better. Last year's John In Babeland grabbed my attention and held it the year long. The band are now readying their next release, an EP prophetically called I Love Neighbors and there's a lot to love on it. They sort of shed some of their Pavement inspirations and go for a more jangly and noisey sound. What You See In Me is the rousing scorcher track on it that will singe your hair or possibly cause a cerebral hemorrhage depending on your volume [...]
NEIGHBOR by Neighbor I like my sludge guttural, nasty, dirty, and bearded. I've never seen Louisville band Neighbor in person, so I can't vouch for the band's choice in facial hair, but those other three things are definitely there. The recording here is grimy, heavy, and somewhat lo-fi. Metal is clearly what Neighbor set out to make with this album, but elements of rock 'n' roll and psych rock show up to add some extra flavor as well. Enjoy!

I've never written a show review before, but after last night's experience I felt compelled to drop this knowledge bomb on y'all. Neighbor and Anwar Sadat are really, really, really awesome . If you don't feel like reading all this, then just know the take-away point from last night is that these are bands that people who think they don't like "heavy music" will love seeing live. This show, a veritable one-two punch of Louisville power trios, kicked off with Anwar Sadat blistering through one of the [...]

Catching up on some other sites' music from a few days ago I came across this spritely song and video over at yvynyl . Neighbors is Noah Stitelman from Brooklyn, crafting insatiable twee-pop songs and layering them with the subtlest of synths and electronic nuances. On his new track "Way To Go" he partnered with Like Like duo Celia Rowlson-Hall and Lexy Hulme, who directed and choreographed this charming, fun, upbeat video for the track, which you can watch below. His debut album Good Luck, Kid [...]

Could this have been the year that Seattle went pop? Sure, there have been bands here and there with pop leanings, but this was the year that Seattle finally shed it's flannel, got out of the garage, and didn't feel like it had to be wooly, bearded and mechanical all the time. Look out old Seattle, the kids don't care about your hang-ups! Here are my favorite 15 records (album, ep's and singles) from the Emerald City and environs. 1. Erik Blood - [...]
Very much in line with a certain '80s new wave aesthetic, Good Luck, Kid bursts with neon-glow melody and warm electronic undercurrents.
Do you think they intentionally worse classic Halloween costumes because of Halloween or if it's just a crazy coincidence? Either way, please remember to stay safe tonight when you are causing mayhem, wouldn't want anyone to get spooked... to death (maniacal laughter, maniacal laughter)

Brooklyn's Neighbors will be releasing their album, Good Luck, Kid , on November 6th. Today, they released a Halloween themed video for their slow-burning song "New Century." The video sees the band dressed as classic monster characters at a warehouse party. The clip was directed by Nate Buchik. Watch below.
So welcome to the ninth installment of my series Get To Know Your Neighbor . It’s my way of saying thanks to those folks that have been cool to me, and a chance to give back to the community that I love so much. This was also an opportunity for me to give you, the reader, some insight into the blogs that have influenced me. Consider it my own personal take on #FF (Follow Fridays). The series will consist of a five question interview with a different blogger/writer each time, along with a few word associations and of course, [...]

Last weekend was my grandmother's Celebration of Life. It would have been her 92nd birthday. We all had margaritas (it was also Cinco de Mayo; I had three) and told funny stories about her life. It was a blast, a good closure and celebration to a woman who meant a lot to a lot of people. Upon returning on Monday, I took a trip out to Anacortes and The Business, picking up the new Cloud Nothings LP, Attack On Memory , which served as inspiration for tonight's show. [...]
