Sorry I'm a little late with this, but illness befell upon me unexpectedly at month's end. I'm OK now though, thanks for asking. Here are some May 2012 bookstore events that looked interesting to me for one reason or another. A few big kahunas at the mother ship and a couple interesting picks at 82nd & Bway and 86th & Lex (not too different from most months, but we're slowing down as we move towards the summer.) "In the jungle, the mighty jungle, the lion sleeps tonight": The Tokens' famous cover topped the charts 50 years ago.
Noted Italian Cinebox expert and TV Producer Michele Bovi maintains a great page on his site about Neil Sedaka in Italy . Neil recorded quite a few songs in Italian, both re-do's of his American hits and some written for him by an Italian songwriting team. Michele has collected lots of great photos and ephemera and posted some very rare Neil Sedaka Cinebox films. Neil Sedaka Italiano

Semi-retired musicians Larry Rushton , 60, and Arthur John Williams , 71, have won first place in the national song search judged by Neil Sedaka, Don Black [...]

Breaking up is hard to do - Neil Sedaka In figuring out that Buddy Holly song yesterday i went through what seemed like a thousand other songs of its vintage trying to find it. Rock/R&B, male vocals, late 502s/early 602s - that's the world i had to scour. Understandably, a lot of them stuck with me in my head throughout yesterday, and this song was there when i woke up today. Neil Sedaka was actually my first guess for yesterday's song. [...]

Photography by ME !!! I love I love I love I love my calendar girl!!! Indeed! Ah, the calendar girl.... an infactuation, crush, purely one-sided relationship that last about one month, maybe a little longer depending on how often you actually look at your calendar in today's app-eat-app world. Much like Isabella in our cover art! How many young lads & ladies will gaze into her eyes, swoon, only to fall in love with Tiffany or Nina [...]

Mayor Signs Law Creating Temporary Modification On Sound Permit Reg [ NY1.com ] Despite the protests of the surrounding community, the annual Seaside Concert Series at Asser Levy Park gets underway tonight with a performance by Neil Sedaka and Brenda Lee . On Monday, the mayor was expected to sign into law a bill that would legalize the amplified music coming from Markowitz's "Seaside Summer Concert Series." But before Hizzoner sat down with his pen, he was persuaded [...]

Filed under: The Hit List If at first you don't succeed ... well, you know the rest. But if one of your songs works the first time, sometimes it's best to leave well enough alone. Here are 20 acts who remade their own songs, often (but not always) at great risk of redundancy. 'Candle in the Wind,' Elton John Original : 1972; remake : 1997 Sir Elton 's ode to Marilyn Monroe , originally [...]

Three new answer songs, though one is more a case on expanding on the story of the original. The first answer song here is one of the funniest in the genre. The Carol in the title of Neil Sedaka's song was his high-school girlfriend Carole King, though we should not be deceived to believe that this was some kind of soul-baring singer-songwriter moment. After Oh Carol became a hit, the budding songwriter, still all of 18 years old, responded with a pretty funny response. Alas, it was not a hit. The third featured song here is the excellent Harper Valley [...]
No More Strangers 4/11/09 w/ Mexican Drug Patrol & The Rub Oh man, I can hardly wait for the next one.... W.C.'s 1 Year Birthday Celebration!!! Did somebody say cake? Neil Sedaka - Happy Birthday Sweet 16
Ooh...It's my first go at this...so give the new guy here a little slack...let's take a look at the list... The Weather Girls, "It's Raining Men" I mean really... I'd have to turn in my card if I didn't put this on the list. It's a favorite at many a disco and karaoke bar and hell, it was co-written by Paul Shaffer. Yes, THAT Paul Shaffer. Alphabeat, "10,000 Nights of Thunder" I decided to throw in a metaphorical weather song here so I could [...]

" Is the tree down yet? Are the decorations packed away? ... " - Henry Fonda Those are the first words spoken on Track 1 and it sets the tone for this day after Christmas. Most people are so finished with Christmas by December 26 that they begin looking forward to the next holiday (and despite some store displays already set, it's NOT Valentine's Day). Compiled for your listening pleasure today are some after-Christmas radio spots that remind you that Christmas might be over but not forgotten, several celebrity New [...]

Monday musing. Ever had that question, what would people in the future listen to? Or related to that question, what would be the logical sound if people thirty years ago were asked to imagined what music in 2006 would sound like. Well, here is a little amusing Monday list. 2006 indie with 70's flavor. Thanks to random search at bubblegum machine and SXSW 2007. I would say this very much sounds like a sountrack of a retro TV show. Huge throaty woman singer or whispery male voice, bluesy and heavily influenced by jazz with more muted rock. [...]

A few weeks ago, I posted about one of my favorite John Cusack movies, One Crazy Summer . This week, I've chosen another classic Cusack film, Better Off Dead . The first of his movies with director "Savage" Steve Holland , and probably my favorite, Better Off Dead tells the tale of down-on-his-luck Lane Meyer. Lane's beautiful and popular girlfriend, Beth, has just broken up with him for jerk ski jock Roy Stalin and Lane doesn't feel as though he can go on. He begins thinking of [...]
