Neil Young famously quit Buffalo Springfield rather than make an appearance on The Night Show with Johnny Carson back in the '60s, but ol' Neil has come around on his distaste for TV. On the occasion of Jon Stewart's 50th birthday, Neil Young stopped by The Daily Show to mainly talk about his new book - Waging Heavy Peace, but that was only the start of an interesting conversation. [Screenshot via CoS ] Stewart has shown an ability to put his guests at ease so [...]

Neil Young stopped by The Daily Show last night to hang out with Jon Stewart on the late night host's 50th birthday. What started out as a discussion on Young's latest autobiography, Waging Heavy Peace , turned into something with a little more depth. As usual, the Crazy Horse frontman broke out of his rough, thick shell and yanked out a couple of yucks. "You know, behind the scenes, I'm really nice," Young contended, pointing to the book's cover. "You see, this guy, right here, he's not very happy looking. I don't know why they always [...]
On paper, American Stars ‘n Bars is Neil Young’s followup to his 1976 album-length collaboration with Stephen Stills, Long May You Run. The truth, as it often is with Young, is more complicated. Having instructed his busdriver to head east to Tennessee and an open airport as Stills and his band made their way in [...]

Under the Radar shines a light on lesser-known cover artists. If you’re not listening to these folks, you should. Catch up on past installments here. It feels a little strange putting the Great Lake Swimmers in the "Under the Radar" category. After all, they've been recording albums for over a decade - their fifth, New Wild Everywhere, came out earlier this year. They've toured the world and elsewhere, with adoring crowds currently flocking to see them throughout Europe. They have nearly 50,000 Facebook fans and hundreds of thousands more around the planet. And yet, they're still known for being little-known, [...]
natepatrin : victorfranko : dinfinite : Apparently it’s Neil Young’s birthday. Here’s Sonic Youth covering “Computer Age”. One of my all time favourite covers Just this morning I was listening to “Sample and Hold” and thinking about how much of a jam it is, so this is a good surprise.
Yes, that's a Bob Dylan cameo in "Gone Till November."By Peter Gerstenzang All of us rock and roll kids have some reason to be thankful this holiday. Maybe it's the beautiful orange foliage. Or the fa

Neil Young and Crazy Horse have been collaborating since 1969 and their shows together have always been the stuff of bone-rattling, eardrum-bursting legend. Distinct from Neil Young's legacy as an acoustic troubadour, when he plays with Crazy Horse, Young transforms into a snarling guitar hero, stomping around the stage and playing an endless series of solos while the band vamps on a riff or two-chord change. The minute the house lights came down at the ACC and I saw Crazy Horse drummer Ralph Molina had a pirate flag flying from his drum kit, I knew [...]

Last week we told you about Neil Young and Crazy Horse dusting off the electric version of Helpless for the first time in decades. Well last night they did it again as an encore at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto, Ontario, a fitting place considering some of the local references within the song. The video we showed off of the Helpless bust out in Calgary wasn't great, but there's a fabulous clip of yesterday's take thanks to YouTuber carsoni4 . We couldn't [...]
Filed under: News , Exclusive , The Hit List , Music Appreciation Timothy A. Clary, AFP When Neil Young released his 35th (!) studio album Psychedelic Pill on October 30, it was about as unsubtle a statement a musician could make. Teaming up with Crazy Horse , his most dangerous musical partners in crime, the grunge godfather produced an album that had not one, but three lengthy meandering [...]

Neil Young & Crazy Horse w. Los Lobos, Air Canada Centre, Nov 19/20 What can I, a lowly mortal say about Neil Young ? That's about it. Corb Lund, Danforth Music Hall, Nov 23 I've never seen as many drunk farmers as I have at a Corb Lund concert. ...also this week: A$AP Rocky, Nov 19 Henry Rollins, Nov 19/20/21 ...And You Will Know Us By The Trail of Dead, Nov 20 [...]
Frank Yang Ideally, I'd have been able to label this one as " Metric covers Neil Young ", given that both acts are in town this week making sure the Air Canada Centre is still hosting some serious Canadiana even with the NHL locked out, but that wouldn't be quite correct. Even though Metric as a full band can officially include the Young-penned classic "Expecting To Fly" in their discography, the track I'm posting predates that by a good five years or so when frontwoman Emily Haines was operating as a solo artist and [...]

Neil Young and Crazy Horse are currently in the midst of The Alchemy Tour, their first excursion since 2003/2004. The tour visits The MTS Centre in Winnipeg, Manitoba this evening.
