MUSIC REVIEW: Kate Tucker - Ghost of Something New EP (Noise Trade) - I'm going to tell all you manly men types with your new mustaches and hippie cologne. You would not want to leave this girl for fear she'd write a killer song which on first listen would turn you into a puddle of salt. So fair warning. Lucky for you she mixes it up a bit on her most recent EP but still delivers sultry alt country angel tinged vocals that are truly aspirational. The shining light of alt-rock maybe. You can be brave [...]

RSL ARTIST SPOTLIGHT Someone You Should Know So here's what you need to kn ow: Kate Tucker is a singer, songwriter, and guitarist from Akron, Ohio. She plays rich, emotive alt-country and americana influenced rock. Her sonic influences reflect shades of Neko Case [...]

The National @ Air Canada Centre: photo by Michael Ligon <!-- Just taking a moment to post a link to my photos from the fantastic triple bill of The National, Neko Case, and Wye Oak which happened down at Air Canada Centre near the beginning of the month. By all accounts, it was a fantastic show. Part of me was dreading having to see the show at Air Canada Centre, but the "theatre" configuration that the venue was transformed into, combined with my fantastic seat which was just about dead centre in the [...]
Filed under: Concerts and Tours , News , Exclusive YouTube (2) | Getty Images When recent Peterborough Collegiate and Vocational School graduates Kate Macdonald, 21, and Janelle Blanchard, 18, started covering some of their favourite songs and posting them to YouTube their main concern was getting attention to save the 184-year-old arts-focused Ontario school that's been slated for closure. What they weren't expecting was to find an ally in Neko Case [...]

Back in 2000 Neko Case and Her Boyfriends topped the Peel Festive 50 with their track Twist the Knife here's a bootleg of that performance, the quality is not the best but still it's a fine listen with tracks from the Furnace Room Lullaby album along with a great selection of covers including the Everly Brothers Bowling Green that appeared on The Virginian album, Bessie Griffin's Lord Don't Move the Mountain after which Loose (I assume it's the same Loose) get a shout out, Aretha Franklin's Runnin' Out of [...]
We're still working on the Best Albums of 2011 list, but in the meantime here's my annual recap of my favorite live shows of the year. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to catch as many concerts in 2011 as I typically do (getting old I guess?), but I still managed to see quite a few memorable shows. I chose the 15 shows of 2011 that I loved the most for this list. Make sure to visit the musicforants.com flickr page to check out all my concert pictures from this year. 15. Frank Yang I'm not really sure how to frame this show. Arena-sized, indie rock summit featuring acts from three of the finest independent labels going? Victory lap capping an incredible 18-month run for one of the best bands, anywhere? Early Christmas gift? Yeah, I may go with that last one. And a surprise gift at that, because even though there's little arguing about the strength of a bill featuring The National , Neko Case and Wye Oak , placing it in an arena - even one configured to one-third [...]

The National just continue to march into bigger and bigger venues in Toronto. On Thursday night it was the Air Canada Centre, albeit in 'theatre mode'. In a nearly Spinal Tap moment, the band were shown making their way from the dressing room on the big screen. Once they finally managed the trek the crowd erupted, erasing any doubt that The National could make even a hockey arena seem intimate. In reality, their performance differed very little from the two Massey Hall shows they did last year (Matt [...]

Any number of great shows could qualify as solid picks this week (Ryan Adams, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, etc), but I had to narrow it down, so here are my concert recommendations for the week: The National w. Neko Case and Wye Oak, Air Canada Centre, Dec 8 Wow, how The National have taken off. They've been great as I've seen them in increasingly large venues. We'll see how they handle the cavernous ACC. Oh yeah, [...]

Lydia with old friend, Fender Telecaster "They're gonna feel almighty When I can barely stand I just tell them I couldn't turn down One more glass of the blood of the lamb." About a month ago, I had the good fortune to see Lydia Loveless and Wild Flag on the same day (October 29). I actually saw Lydia twice. She and Ben Lamb, her standup bassist/husband (not necessarily in that order) played a 30 minute in-store [...]

The Dodos is easily one of the best shows that I've been to this year. With just a duo on stage they were able to get the crowd energized and moving better than most bands could with a full line up. It's this energy that they were able to put into their impactful release No Color that will surely find its way onto many top ten lists this next month. To help remind everyone just as they're starting to compile their end of year lists, The Dodos took the stage of Late Night with Jimmy Fallon [...]

The Dodos got some help from their friend Neko Case , who everyone just loves, last night on the band's appearance on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon . It's a fairly impressive performance, especially considering I usually have a hard time getting into the Dodos. Maybe it's Neko. Man I love Neko. The Dodos - Don't Try and Hide It (ft. Neko Case) EDIT: Something shitty with the embedding, watch the video here .

If you have been reading my site for the last 6 years (WOW. 6 YEARS!) You know how thoroughly obsessed I am with both The Dodos and Neko Case . Finally FINALLY I got to see the pairing in action as The Dodos performed "Dont Try And Hide It" last night on Jimmy Fallon with assistance from the firey songstress. My only gripe is Neko Case sat down for the entire performance! Watch the performance at STEREOGUM and enjoy a free download of "So Cold." MP3: The [...]

Late Night w/ Jimmy Fallon continues to kill it with great musical guests. Last night, the Dodos performed "Don't Try and Hide It" with Neko Case sitting in on back-up vocals.

Another awesome late night performance took place last night and it wasn't from Morrissey. It happened on Jimmy Fallon and involved the Dodos and Neko Case performing "Don't Try and Hit It" from this years No Color LP. If you missed the performance last night then lucky for you our buddies at The Audio Perv caught it all and you can watch it again and again at the top of the page.
