This weekend is an immense weekend for Irish music in terms of the future. As we all know we can only have good independent music festivals if they have the ability to make money. There's a free gig on the Sunday featuring Funeral Suits and Neosupervital amongst many others that I'm looking forward to. I also got tickets to Heritage Centre and Ian Whitty for [...]

Groom are a band who only jumped onto my radar when I got an email informing me of their new album; 'At The Natural History Museum'. However as I checked out the five piece I realised they are probably the most blogged about band in Ireland at the moment. Check out reviews/posts here , here , here , here oh and here ! So here I am on the bandwagon and I feel fine because Groom are cool. Groom are low-fi indie loving, acoustic crooning, electronic melodic architects. Well I did [...]
Neosupervital – Battery Power
Having escaped to the wilds of the country in order to craft this little piece of pop pleasantry, it seems Neosupervital 's time away has done him good as he returns even perkier, even sparklier than ever before – if that's possible. No time is wasted as the album bangs straight into 'There's Only This Time', a sunshine ray of layered catchy chorus, simple riffs and sweet synths. Superficially, Battery Power is light and flippant. For example, 'Dance With You' really is just about dancing with a girl in a club (and he doesn't even want [...]

Le Galaxie – Victory
Tonight sees the Le Galaxie boys headline Whelan's after the match so let's hope it's a celebration rather than a damp desolate heart-crushingly ball-numbing result we'd rather forget. Either way, Le Galaxie will be bringing their own 'Victory' and joining them from 10.30pm tonight will be The Ambience Affair and Neosupervital so it's a great show all round. Intergalactic , the weekly dance/indie night happens afterwards too. Admission is €10. Le Galaxie have recently recorded a new single called 'Victory' and were kind enough to allow us to host it right [...]

HWCH's Day 1 Review
The best thing about day one of the Hard Working Class Heroes festival was that so many people were talking about Irish music. All the bands I seen were playing for their lives last night. Great night. NoLady Aine O'Doherty formally known as the act 'Onya' from Donegal has recruited a fine band and are now 'NoLady'. They make cheeky alternative pop music which can easily be compared to The Sultans of Ping. City of Angels http://www.myspace.com/cityofa ngelsdub [...]

Live: Groom at Whelan's
One of my favourite young Irish acts play two gigs in Dublin this weekend. On Sunday night, Groom will be supporting Neosupervital at Whelan's upstairs. A great lineup. Tickets are 10 euro and doors are at 8. On Friday, they'll be supporting Brian Cullen's Love Bullets in the Lower Deck in Portobello. Tickets are 8 euro with a copy of BCLB's new EP coming to you free.
Talulah Does The Hula for Whelan's
Talulah Does The Hula are to play Whelan's on April 26, with support from Sleep Thieves and Disconnect4. Named after a New Zealand court case and featuring former members of The Chalets and Neosupervital, Talulah Does The Hula are a sprightly quintet, whose mission is to get your booty shaking with their Spector-ish reverb, '50s harmonies, layered synth pop and jangly guitars. Tickets, priced €10 (incl booking fee), are available from WAV [lo-call 1890 200 078], City Discs, Road Records, Tickets.ie & Ticketmaster outlets. Related Kila for [...]

Neosupernews
Neosupervital sent out a rather lengthy update this morning to bring people up to speed on the events of the past year. So lengthy in fact that I'm summarising it for you before posting it in full. Just in cazse you find a nine point update daunting. Firstly, Tim O'Donovan seems to have gone all Jandek in his public missives. Neosupervital is back to being just Tim (status of Dancin' Vin: Unknown, presumed dead). Tim doesn't play drums for Bell X1 anymore. New Neosuperalbum on the way, new gig on the way (Feb [...]
Neosupervital - Rachel
The first few beats are not the start to the 12-inch of 'Bizarre Love Triangle', much as you might wish they are. Instead we are talking about a particularly Irish bent of electronica from Neosupervital. Tim O'Donovan is in charge and the self professed eighties nut realised a dream last year by supporting synth Gods the Human League in Dublin. 'Rachel' displays one man showmanship (now extended

Neosupervital Interview (Neosuperinterview)
The first time I properly heard Neosupervital, I was in a club, he was supporting the Chalets, and I didn't know what I was hearing, but I knew that it was good. Though he's also Bell x1's touring drummer, Neosupervital's synth guitar is where Tim O'Donovan finds his musical expression. In a world where there are a million saviours of rock and roll, he's going to save synth-pop, and he's not
