What was fast becoming a complete shitfest of a day got completely turned around when the download link for the new Nerd Parade LP showed up in my inbox this afternoon. That's right, Atlanta! There's a new Nerd Parade joint, it's called Daylight Savings Time , and it's available right now for a measly $3 from the group's Bandcamp page. Get on it! I haven't had the opportunity to give it a proper listen, but if the album's first single, "Pity Party," is any indication we should be in for plenty of driving [...]

THIS WEEK'S BEST BET: Primus Tuesday, October 5 The Tabernacle - 152 Luckie Street NW in Atlanta, GA 30303 Admission is $52 / Purchase Tickets On Tuesday night, Primus brings the Oddity Faire 2010 tour to the Tabernacle . No openers. 2 sets. All Primus. All night. Hell. Yeah. From fronting Nerd Parade to masterminding this week's DIY music festival Nophest, multi-instrumentalist Randy Garcia is a musical force in Atlanta. His latest solo offering kind of slipped through the cracks when it got released around the holidays and I didn't get a chance to discuss it, but it's one of the best local records to emerge this year. The aptly named Everything Ever spans an impressively diverse range of sound for a primarily electronic album. Containing deep pop sensibilities, it's also surprisingly catchy and attention grabbing for an instrumental piece. He'll be performing [...]
It didn't feel like there had been any more hype poured into RSD this year, but more people drank the Kool-Aid and rampant consumerism was on
Daniels is a rare breed who blends the whole nostalgic guy with a guitar and a story to tell thing with rollicking, rustic inflections
If you haven't yet caught a night cap with Eddie, then this is the weekend to start. It wasn't too long ago that Eddie decided to do his part to reinvigorate the late night scene in Decatur. Bastions of the Decatur scene The Brick Store and its younger brother Leon's Full Service can [...]

I just got a copy of Fishhawk 's Bells Underwater , which got released early in the summer. Their sound is somewhere vaguely in TV On The Radio territory, and while stylistically it is a little too far outside of my normal taste range, I have to admit that it is very well done. The production quality alone makes this a worthwhile release to check out. At 15 tracks, the record has a little too much fat on it, but it also has some really great moments. Fishhawk [...]

Atlanta bands playing Nophest: Jungol If you aren't familiar with Jungol , you might be familiar with Liquid Jungle , the band's former incarnation. Centered around brothers Josh and Graham Yoder, this group has actually been soldiering the local scene for most of the decade. I caught them a few times back in the day when jambands ruled a hefty portion of the underground music turf, and while they were certainly part of that scene, I remember there [...]
