A bit of lo-fi joy from the new Nerve City Sleepwalker EP . Streaming above is the EP's title track, and it's a haunting bit of lo-fi rock. The song's lyrics-which bring up imagery of staring eyes, dark rooms, and sleeplessness-get enhanced by the recording quality, making it more haunting than it could have been with a "proper" recording. Grab this EP on Sacred Bones .

Last night's MOKB Presents ...Sleigh Bells, Po Po, and Nerve City show at Radio Radio was madness - MADNESS I tell you! Riding a gigantic wave of buzz, Brooklyn's Sleigh Bells roll into the Ottobar tonight in support of their album Treats. This one took a while for me to get into, but I'm actually... [go to the website to read the rest of the article, download mp3s and more]

I just had my first Sleigh Bells album listen. I know I'm late jumping on this boat, but a good pal recommended I get it. So I got it. Results are pretty good. I might not be hooked yet, but I'm not going to miss this show. I mean, for heck, they got "rising" on "pitchfork". Must be good, right? Check out their seizure-inducing website here . It's a "treat"! Alongside this duo will be Popo and Nerve City . In the words of [...]

When the weather's hot and humidity's killing a) you can hop on to your cabriolet and drive fast while listening to some lo-fi fuzz from Nerve City or b) you can daydream while listening to some jangly surf fuzz from Nerve City. Jason Boyer, the one man recording army from Richmond, VA deals his extremely lo-fi surf garage fuzz with precision. He's had a bunch of cassette's and limited vinyl releases on labels like Kill Shaman and Sacred Bones , and his debut full length is out on Vancouver's Sweet Rot . [...]
So far I've encountered Nerve City over a few recordings, cropping up on RSTB loved labels like HoZac, Kill Shaman and Sweet Rot and up to this point the music has evoked little beyond ambivalence. However, maybe I just wasn't listening with the right set of ears because his latest release, the fifth in Sacred Bones' EP series, seems to be going down quite smooth indeed. Perhaps it's the slight (and I do mean slight) fidelity bump or maybe this lazy tinge of humidity in the air just lends itself to Sleepwalker's faded melodies and casual country delivery. [...]

If I've learned anything from The Wire , it's that a re-up of red tops is getting a street name like "bubonic" or "WMDs." Nerve City's latest 7" is called Red Tops , so you know we're putting you on to that good shit. Nerve City is out to make your ears bleed. We may have overlooked this rad 7" in '09, but we sent out a special invitation to let it join us in a new decade. We read On...
Flickrshow will appear here. All photos: Shantel Mitchell All words: Shawn Breen Have you ever seen that ONE band before, that you just totally love and you want to keep them to yourself forever? That feeling of not wanting others to embrace them for fear of losing them to the masses? I feel that way about The Dutchess And The Duke. It's a love affair, I'll admit it. This was one of those shows that you [...]

Think of me as your Millionaire Matchmaker . There are many similarities: Like the host of that show, I am of indeterminate gender, no matter how hard you squint. The procedure my clients follow is also very much the same: you contact my offices (read: visit my website ) and ask that I hook you up with a long-term winning relationship (read: song ). After extensively studying your profile, I have determined that you'll be a perfect fit with Nerve City 's The Armory [...]

Image: Shelby Nycole Let's Talk About It - White Denim White Denim's (first? new?) album is a package bus tour of 70s rock, breezing through psychedelia, glam, hard rock, prog, soul, post-punk -- even waving at disco. Ya know, if it's Tuesday it must be Bowie. At several points their enthusiasm seems kinda feigned and mocking, and at other stops they're palpably enthused. "Let's Talk About It" is White Denim's spiked, angular Buzzcocks/Wire/Minutemen nod. But instead [...]

I know very little about this band other than it hails from Richmond VA and is the brainchild one Jason Boyer , whose warped sense of pop is one of my big finds for 2008. Noise, reverby Psychocandy era Jesus And Mary Chain sentiments mix with the destitute jangle of Americana. So far all that's available are a handful of very limited cassette releases, from which these tracks were lifted, with their debut 73 on the way. Nerve City - The Creek Nerve City - Junkyard [...]
