In Fades Know Thy Elephant Los Angeles' In Fades employ tremolo-ed guitar riffs, shuffling, shifting rhythms and psyched out vocals to create a sound that immediately sits well, comfortable in its familiar elements yet distinctive for the way its elements are uniquely combined. "Shipwrecked" starts with shoegazey textures before moving into surf-rock guitars that launch the song forward while droning synths and deep intoning vocals keep things anchored underneath. Songs like that one and "Burning Mona Lisa," with skipping pianos, sharp riffs and electro-gospel synths spiraling around a [...]
DSM017 - Nether - True Believer (Marcus Intalex Remix) [Clip] by Deep Soul Music Forthcoming on DSM; more info on this HERE .

As followers of our Twitter are more than aware, Kenny Bloggins has been straight fiendin' the past few weeks. It's probably been annoying as all hell, and I suppose I'm somewhat sorry. But not really - the final season of LOST begins tonight, and we are throwin' down. In the traditional way this blog celebrates all the stupid shit going on in my life, it seemed necessary to throw a Super Swingin' Mix in your vicinity. And hey, it also can serve as sort of a peace offering for my general numberskullery and insolence. So... all the songs below relate [...]

Swoon.. I'm loving the music of a Washington D.C. band that I discovered over the weekend: Nethers . Quite coincidentally (no payola here), they had an album that came out out on the 17th (or 18th?) called What The Wind Will Never Tell . The song Migratory Birds builds slowly; give it some time to reach its tilt-a-whirlin' peak. A lil bit Mazzy Star, a lil bit of the bluegrass-y goodness of Fruit Bats . Its worth the wait to hear them go off...aaand then it slows [...]
I'll be out of town for a few days, but that doesn't mean you should miss out on some great DC shows. Tomorrow night (June 1 - Happy Birthday, Whitney Havice!) Black Cat has locals Nethers opening up for The Comas and The Broken West. Nethers - Hung Herself In A Birdcage The Broken West - On The Bubble Not a rare occurrence with Black Cat , the venue hosts a second night of great music this weekend on [...]

I decided to create a mini-sampler of a few of the huge number of bands that will be appearing at the music portion of the annual South by Southwest Festival in Austin, TX from March 14 - 18. These are songs that I like a lot, but I haven't had the time to look up info about the bands, and I have maybe only one or two [...]

Washington, DC "It's An Island" Nethers on MySpace
Well well well... Look who is Mr. 4Late4 in finding today's featured music. The album this song belongs to was actually released last year and received a modest amount of attention in music blogland. Luckily, I was making a project of visiting some unfamiliar music sites when I discovered that Information Leafblower has something of an ongoing fondness for this particular band. It's not
A random selection filled with questions. For today's Blurbin' Friday. Because life is filled with questions. Have at it: 1. O The Deed - Nethers (Elk City? Neko? Viva Voce?) 2. Alive Until Saturday Night - Hexes and Ohs (Postal Service and OMD?) 3. Green Cowgirl - Laura Veirs (Kristin Hersh? Rebecca Pearcy? Mirah?) 4. Brightblack Morning Light - [...]
